What's an unexpected/unusual perk of your job?

Dh came home with another freebie tonight which prompted this post.

He's a taxi driver. We live near a 'naice' coastal touristy place with a large number of expensive restaurants and very high end wine/cocktail bars.

His random perk of the job is free glasses 🥂 😂

Not just any old pub glasses. Really beautiful, heavy, expensive wine/cocktail/gin/whisky/champagne glasses. Customers leave them in his cab or in the cab office he works out of. There's no way to give them back...they could be from any one of 100 or more walking distance establishments. So any that are left in his cab he brings home...any that are left in the cab office gets added to their collection and the drivers basically have a free glassware shop 😂

We've slowly been replacing our IKEA glassware with the ones he brings home which are far nicer...it was a very unexpected perk of being a cabbie.

Anyone have any more random job perks? Unfortunately my own job is utterly boring with no similar experience!

I get lots of hugs and kisses.

And germs 😂.

burntoutnurse · 04/10/2023 23:00

Zero 😂 I get peed on. And vomited on.

I'm fibbing. We get lots of cake and sweets bought for us, but I'm dieting for my wedding lol

Nice water bottles (£40 to buy new)
Google-esque items in office eg energy pods/computer games/chairs and tv to watch big sporting events such as Wimbledon/rugby
Various competitions with pretty good prizes
Have shop/hairdressers/bike shop/restaurant in office

Puritizer · 04/10/2023 23:12

Sorry just realised most of these are not unusual!

ElleDeeCB · 04/10/2023 23:13

Four course lunch then coffee afterwards.

AffIt · 04/10/2023 23:13

I work in fintech and have access to financial modelling software that allows me me to build really good budgeting forecasts.

Niche, but useful.

Wigeon · 04/10/2023 23:14

I got 25% off in Dulux on Monday - didn't realise but they had a discount for NHS workers!

Also got almost free tickets for Sugababes at the O2 a people of weeks ago through a website for free/discount tickets for all kinds of events

Wigeon · 04/10/2023 23:14

For NHS workers that is

lazysundaymorningcoffee · 04/10/2023 23:17

I got a free apple yesterday from the fruit bowl in the breakout room.

Actually I got 2 free apples because I also traded in my corporate mobile for a newer model of iPhone.

fourelementary · 04/10/2023 23:20

I have a decently stocked first aid box… and my kids can always be Mummies at Halloween!!

Hermittrismegistus · 04/10/2023 23:20

No perks. I spend my days being told I'm the reason someone is going to killl themselves and/ or I'm the reason their family member is dead.

Nagado · 04/10/2023 23:23

My chair spins. Or, at least, it does unless someone gets in before me and swaps it for a broken one.

RhymesWithTangerine · 04/10/2023 23:24

We get free fruit and soft drinks. That’s not that weird a perk.

We all got given a shredder for WFH. I was pretty unimpressed but DH is obsessed with my shredder. He definitely thinks that was a perk.

PinkyDinkyDoodle · 04/10/2023 23:40

I once got a barbecue. The company supplied it for an event but didn’t want to store it.

And I got 100m of heavy duty armoured cable so I could run power to my shed. It had gone out of date. Like bananas, only with more copper.

Whalewatchers · 04/10/2023 23:48

A half hour morning break, meaning I only have to work 6.5 hrs a day.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 04/10/2023 23:55

A takeaway hot lunch for both of us and paid breaks, even though the max I work is 5 hours a day.
Dh gets to see what new stock items are going on sale before they hit the stores.

Justcallmebebes · 04/10/2023 23:57

Free Wills and LPA's (although we still have to pay the OPG fee Sad)Would much rather have free nice wine glasses

Ladyoftheknight · 04/10/2023 23:59

When I worked, i was my husband's PA. We had a great office, food and drink provided, ovens etc. The best perk was having an office uber eats account with the company card.

MaraScottie · 05/10/2023 00:13

My company has an amazing recognition program, so I have a bottomless supply of restaurant, shop and amazon vouchers (tax free). I've racked up 4k worth of points this year and I can't spend them as fast as I get them.

Angrymum22 · 05/10/2023 00:32

Free toothbrushes, toothpaste and whitening products. I have a lifetimes supply. I also get Botox done for free.

Zola1 · 05/10/2023 00:34

No perks. I spend my days being told I'm the reason someone is going to killl themselves and/ or I'm the reason their family member is dead.

I think we do similar jobs

coxesorangepippin · 05/10/2023 01:27

Duckingella · 05/10/2023 01:34

I get free toiletries and cosmetics.

Fosterfloof · 05/10/2023 05:09
