Is anyone else just sick of being a bit overweight?

I'll preface this by saying I thought about posting in weight loss chat, but I'm actually not after weight loss advice..

Is anyone just sick of being a "bit overweight?"

I'll define that by saying I'm 1.5 stones overweight but not in the obese category. I have a nice face, albeit a double chin, ample chest, small waist and long and shapely legs from the calves downwards.. however I have a belly, wobbly thighs and my upper arms are built like a wrestlers.

I love food. I stick to a diet for a few days or a week then usually ruin it by having a takeaway.

I do lack will power and also find it time making time to exercise as a busy working single parent.

I think its just knowing if I lost that 1.5 stones I'd be in a healthy weight category, but I just can't seem to engage my brain by doing it..

Does anyone else feel fed up of it all when you're a bit overweight?

Yesssssss

toomuchfaster · 03/10/2023 20:53

Me, me, me!!!! I loose half a stone and feel a bit better then relax and put it back on.

NotFastButFurious · 03/10/2023 20:54

i hear ya!
its so hard to shift a lb or two when you don’t have as much to loose and I’ve reached that age where i swear my hormones are against me too! I’m not particularly wobbly as I do work out but all my weight goes on round my middle.

Yes!!! For some reason it feels worse that I could probably get it all off by the end of the year but can’t even get my arse in gear to do that.

UpUpUpU · 03/10/2023 20:58

Yes! I know I’m a bit podgy but my friend took a picture of me riding my horse yesterday and I was horrified at my size!

NotAMug · 03/10/2023 21:11

Yes, same. Used to he slim and toned as exercised loads, got injured so stopped exercising and got chubby, just keep putting a bit on here and there. Determined to lose a stone before Christmas. I can't put on any more as now at the very top end of my clothes fitting.

Ssme92 · 03/10/2023 21:16

Yesssss!!!!!!! And I read on a thread on here before that anyone feeling like this is just lazy and it really upset me! Glad to hear other people are feeling the same. It is bloody hard!

fridaynighter · 03/10/2023 21:17

Yes!! I actually think it's harder loose weight when you don't have much to loose. I have a stone to loose, but I feel like I'm just playing about with a few lbs here and there. I've started calorie counting this week hoping that might help me focus and set a realistic goal of Christmas.
What age are you OP? I'm perimenopausal and that's definitely a factor!

Pastarasta1 · 03/10/2023 21:25

I'm 37, but I'm permanently exhausted. I raise a 5 year old alone and work full time, daughter has just started reception and life is so much busier.
I'd either have to wake up at 5am to do exercise or do it at 8.30pm after she's asleep and chores are done.. neither are favourable. Its hugely frustrating. I'm a size 12/14 currently which I don't consider big but if I lost weight I'd easily go down to a size 10.
I think I'd be more motivated if I was in the obese category.. its that frustration of having a bit of weight to lose but not being able to lose it

Elieza · 03/10/2023 21:29

Yup. And my menopausal age is making it virtually impossible to shift even a pound.

MsCactus · 03/10/2023 21:30

Me too - I'm 10 months pp and have 10lb to lose to be pre-pregnancy weight, a stone to be my ideal weight.

It's just so frustrating! I diet loads and after a few weeks lose 1lb, then eat a big meal and put it back on 😂 it seems impossible!

Liv999 · 03/10/2023 21:30

Yep, I've a stone to lose and I know I could realistically have it off by Xmas but I just can't get motivated, I'm good for a few days and then it's back to my old ways, I know if I don't do something soon I'll have even more on after Xmas!

CleanUpYourPipeline · 03/10/2023 21:33

In my experience, you cannot lose weight by exercising only, I need to be careful with diet. Just putting this out there to give OP some support in that if you can’t exercise, don’t give up completely, small tweaks in the diet are better than nothing. I am empty nester now and still struggling to find during working week for anything other than cooking and chores. But if that’s the case, cooking is where to focus your priorities to improve diet. I hope it makes sense somehow.

ThePoshUns · 03/10/2023 21:34

I hear you. I need to lose about a stone / stone and a half.
I make a token gesture at the beginning of the week then it goes downhill as the week goes on.
I eat pretty healthily and exercise, but can't motivate myself to do that little bit more to get the weight off.

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 03/10/2023 21:37

Yeah. I need to lose 1.5, maybe 2 stone. I have piles of clothes that don't fit me from when I last lost weight.

I know what to do. I've done it successfully before. I'm just so tired at the moment, I can't summon the energy Sad

I'm fairly short and fairly sedentary so it's easy for me to gain without much effort.

toomuchfaster · 03/10/2023 21:37

I also only loose if I'm hungry and I really don't want to spend the rest of my life hungry.

PennyPencils · 03/10/2023 21:39

Same here. Almost 10months pp too but was this same slightly overweight state before the pregnancy so I can't blame that.

I'm careful, loose a bit, just as pp said, then I relax and back on it all pops.

Feel ok until I try to look nice and all my clothes look horrid or I catch sight of my double chin in a photo.

I've had chocolate orange ice-cream (whoops, it was on offer) but healthier choices again starting tomorrow. This time I MEAN IT.... again.

fatrascall · 03/10/2023 21:46

I'm similar. Need to lose 1.5-2 stone. I fluctuate massively with my motivation. I have a personal trainer and spend loads of time reading about UPF's, making healthy lunches, cooking from scratch etc.

But then I'll ruin it with wine, chocolate and takeaways, and not exercising all week until my next PT session.

I don't know how to stop sabotaging it.

NorthWestThree · 03/10/2023 21:51

Yes! Very similar to you OP, I need to lose a stone to have a healthy BMI and probably 1.5 stone to look slim.
But my life isn't diet compatible 😂 I know the only way I will ever lose weight is to cut out EVERYTHING, follow a strict calorie controlled diet with no cheat days, no slips. That is a life of no treats, no meals out, no takeaways, no alcohol. The only time I ever lost weight I literally hid myself away from everything for 6 months and counted every mouthful. The first time I had wine again I gained 3lb in a week 😂

I like going out for drinks, meals, takeaways. I like a slice of cake on a Saturday afternoon after a family walk. I like a nice roast dinner on a Sunday in the local pub. I like beer 😂

This weekend I am going to stay with a friend. She will cook nice food and buy nice wine, we will go for a long walk on Saturday and stop at several pubs on the way. There will likely be a cheese board at some point. I cannot do these things and be slim.

I exercise a lot. I go to the gym 3-5 times a week, I walk everywhere. But as we all know, weight loss is down to diet, not exercise. And I just...enjoy food 🤷🏻‍♀️

I hate being fat. But I'd hate my life more if I had to restrict all the things I would need to in order to be, and stay, slim. So... fat it is 😁

In same age and was the same amount of over weight for a few years- it took getting destational diebetes for me to work out about food - I still follow the diabetes Uk diet advice (no sugary drinks limited alcohol and nonwhite carbs) and my weight dropped off. I also have minimal time to exercise so I walk everywhere and do core exercises with my baby a couple times a week

PurpleRadish · 04/10/2023 07:41

Nice to find a tribe! I need to lose 10kg to look proportionate. Huge tummy. Only strict calorie counting works. I want to just accept having a big middle but I just can't. I can't seem to change how i eat on a LONG TERM BASIS.

God, this is me.

hurlyb · 04/10/2023 08:34

This was me for 4 years - I was a reluctantly overweight person who liked eating out. Now this year I'm 2.5 stone down due to intermittent fasting. I still eat out regularly, drink moderately and enjoy real food without any calorie counting. I just do it within a shorter window.

Genuinely life changing, at almost 50 I'm back in my fitted clothes with a flattish stomach, no back fat and the best shape I've had in a decade. I can wear what I like. I am still getting used to that.

I would have read my post this time last year and thought "nah". It's so bloody easy though. You're either in an eating window or you aren't. Zero effort except looking at the clock.

WinchSparkle80 · 04/10/2023 08:40

@hurlyb can you elaborate on what you do eat and when in the day? I think this is what I need to do, but struggle as I need tea with milk when I wake up.
