What's going on with Tescos??

7 of my favourites list removed from their range, most no viable substitutes, are supermarkets trying to reduce things to a kind of a stripped back homogenous lump noticed this gradually happen with Sainsburys which is why we switched to Tescos! Plus absolutly loads of stuff out of stock, loads of fruit and veg and meat we normally buy, I reckon about 20% of my favourites list is out of stock

For info removed from range;

Tesco own Belgian Buns
Barenaked Rice
Minor figures milk -we buy 2 types, whole range gone
Arla Oat milk (my go to if above out of stock)
The whole John Ross range of salmon
Organic salmon fillets
Ripe and ready pears
Ecover Bio

In Scotland btw

@DaisysChains Dry cat food is stupid money now. We have 4 cats and a feral so bulk buy. A 15kg sack used to be £16, now its £26. A 19kg sack has now shrunk to 7.5kg but has risen to £21!!!!

Also cat litter. I adopt rescue Siamese who mostly (for no real good reasons) have to be indoors. My cat litter has gone from £11 a bag to £15. Yes I use an expensive cat litter but the price increase is huge. I buy in bulk for that and dry cat food as luckily I can store. I find zooplus very competitive price wise.

Do you use wet cat food pouches? I have had some blow in the last few weeks. Never had that before. Absolutely rank with the smell and degradation.

Quisquam · 05/10/2023 20:56

Talking about pets, some manufacturers reduced the 100g pouches of cat wet food to 85g! Like cats were not going to notice their meals had been cut down by 15%? We noticed they took much more interest in what we were eating; and DH commented that DCat brother was getting thinner! We had to up their meals from a total of 4 to 5 pouches a day!

I thought it was disgusting shrinkflating animals’ food, when their owners might not notice what had happened, leaving animals hungry!

Taylor's of Harrogate ground coffee became scarce and then it returned with 'New' on the shelf label.
The only trying new about it was it had increased in price by 75p and the size has been reduced from 227g to 200g

Is that where it went. It was out of stock when I did my shop this week. At least it is coming back, albeit even more expensive.

@MeAndStuart1981 not really as this guy’s company had retail outlets in UK as well as EU. So it was not in their interest to denigrate the UK just to point score over Brexit. They want to retain their customer base in UK.

I have shopped at Tesco online for years and have always been really happy with the service but the past year many lines have been unavailable online. I haven't been able to buy a butternut squash for months , and other staples out of stock have included onions carrots bread and mince pies at Christmas.

TheLogicalSong · 13/01/2024 18:53

'Finest' range has hugely shrunk in our Tesco. Range of cheeses has also gone downhill.

Gowlett · 13/01/2024 18:56

Brexit. In Ireland, with M&S it’s only half the range available.
The cost of bringing it all over is huge. They’ve switched to Irish suppliers for a lot of items now (empty shelves were a problem). Which is great, but… I’m going to M&S, and paying extra (ridiculous prices here!) for “special” M&S stuff, so…

Utopinor · 14/01/2024 12:12

Strangely enough we are thinking of switching in the opposite direction ie from Tesco to Sainsbury's because so many of Tesco staples (as well as finest) are unavailable. Often the items unavailable online are piled up on the shelves which leads me to believe they will prioritorise the shops over online as empty shelves look bad.
