Tescos 'removed from our range' and loads out of stock

What's going on with Tescos??

7 of my favourites list removed from their range, most no viable substitutes, are supermarkets trying to reduce things to a kind of a stripped back homogenous lump noticed this gradually happen with Sainsburys which is why we switched to Tescos! Plus absolutly loads of stuff out of stock, loads of fruit and veg and meat we normally buy, I reckon about 20% of my favourites list is out of stock

For info removed from range;

Tesco own Belgian Buns
Barenaked Rice
Minor figures milk -we buy 2 types, whole range gone
Arla Oat milk (my go to if above out of stock)
The whole John Ross range of salmon
Organic salmon fillets
Ripe and ready pears
Ecover Bio

In Scotland btw

Same with Tesco in store (sw England).
They hadn’t had their pitta bread in stock since 2020 but that’s now reappeared so things may come back eventually. Eggs are also making a reappearance although only in 6’s

At the moment I’m struggling with
the wraps I usually buy (crosta and mollica)
big bags of pasta
fresh Apple juice in cartons
yoghurt that isn’t 0% fat
big blocks of cheese
washing powder rather than tablets or pods
own brand cereal
marmite other than in tiny jars

Iliketulips · 02/10/2023 22:11

In South West here. Only thing in Tescos that's been a bit hit and miss over the last couple of weeks is cherry tomatoes, but we'll happily have others. Seems we're very lucky.

Oh, pitta bread has been sold at ours throughout- its a medium size store

Taylor's of Harrogate ground coffee became scarce and then it returned with 'New' on the shelf label.
The only trying new about it was it had increased in price by 75p and the size has been reduced from 227g to 200g

And have you seen the company's justification about this on social media. Dreadful. Just the same line repeated indefinitely.

Tomato, and other salad veg, shortages are fuck all to do with Brexit. The weather this year decimated crops.

“BrExIt” is so fucking lazy as a response.

MaidOfSteel · 02/10/2023 22:29

Also in Scotland. Tesco, our nearest supermarket for quite some distance, has stopped stocking some of our favourites; McCains lightly spiced wedges is the first that springs to mind.

After the pricing battle they had with Heinz (if I remember rightly) I wonder if it's something similar with other manufacturers.

ODFOx · 02/10/2023 22:49

About 20% of our regular brands/items are not available from week to week for the last month or so at Tesco. From Belgian buns to value feta to frozen soffrito to wholemeal thick sliced bread. As an online shopper the fact that so many of the items in my favourites list are discontinued or unavailable is really inconvenient.
Ive switched back to a local greengrocer for fresh stuff and am looking around to change supermarkets overall. We're out in the sticks so not all supermarkets deliver here. So disappointing!

Seasidegrandma · 02/10/2023 22:50

No, I will have a look

GellerYeller · 02/10/2023 22:52

I’ve absolutely noticed own brand ranges shrinking. Much less choice of cereal in our Tesco for one. Their Shreddies were often under £1 a box, and the branded version so much more. Ditto Cheerios.
To the PP who mentioned Waitrose own brand cleaning products- I loved their dark and black clothes laundry liquid. I’ll assume it’s discontinued and that makes my list of items I’m prepared to buy in there even smaller.
Now we’ve lost Wilko which was the only stockist of Woolite dark, my second favourite, I shall have to resort to Amazon. I can’t find it anywhere- unless anyone knows different?!

Found the Brexit-voting mug.

GasDrivenNun · 02/10/2023 23:52

Tesco - lack of sliced sourdough bread both own brand and branded.
Lack of other types of breads and rolls too. Also not seen in store either.

So you didn't read their post properly then.

Raging hot temperatures, wildfires and drought, ie climate, has had a decimating effect on food being produced. Brexit isn't weather related 🙄

EyesOnThePies · 03/10/2023 00:08

Loads of own brand stuff disappears.

Tesco / Sainsbury’s own brand colour laundry liquid is often really hard to get.

frogswimming · 03/10/2023 01:02

Search by name in shopping list. They've probably just changed the product slightly eg it's 120g instead of 125g or something.

Riverlee · 03/10/2023 01:07

I have very few, if any substitutions with Ocado.

Cereal seems to be a major problem everywhere, especially own brand Shreddies, although I suspect this is more due to the Ukraine war than Brexit.

madeinmanc · 03/10/2023 03:21

Thank goodness you've posted this, I was thinking I was going crazy because I've been going round multiple shops to get random items. I made a special trip to Waitrose which is further away from me and noticed they'd discontinued their own brand delicate wash stuff and also liquid soapflakes, really disappointing as it was great.

As for fresh fruit and vegetables, I go to a local market for most of it now or sometimes get an organic vegetable box.

If I had a lot of money and a pantry I'd stock up on the random stuff but that's not possible for me.

Brexit is the main driver. Pretend all you like if it makes you feel better.

Yes, and my Tesco will only delivery bakery items other than soft bread rolls after 1pm.

I went instore a couple of weeks ago, on a Saturday afternoon, and all they had available were soft rolls and French sticks. Had it been barbecue weather I could understand the large amount of soft rolls on the bakery shelves but it was dull and quite cool.

JaneDSE9 · 03/10/2023 08:56

This started in COVID, the less well selling products were pulled, Sainsburys own brand French Mayo was discontinued and it's such a shame as it was far nicer than the expensive brands

BubblyBubbler · 03/10/2023 08:59

Pampers nappy pants are always out of stock here.

tennine · 03/10/2023 09:00

It's usual for this time of year when they condense to fill the shelves with Christmas stock

Stressedafff · 03/10/2023 09:06

Morrisons is the worst for this
they used to have so many own brand products, now they’ve got rid of them

Asda did this too, however most of the items are back now in new packaging

PinkyDinkyDoodle · 03/10/2023 09:11

@AutumnFroglets while fruit and veg has been impacted badly by the weather conditions, Brexit does have an impact. Veg suppliers are selling their products within the EU because it is easier for them. The veg that makes it to us is more expensive, and more prone to fluctuations in availability.

Try the polish mayonnaise that they sell, it's the best ever

I was responding to the pp calling another person a brexit mug when they pointed out salad/veg was in short supply this year due to climate conditions. That was just rude and uncalled for.

Im not saying brexit isn't part of it in getting it to the UK but to insult another pp and not consider the horrendous weather fluctuations we've had over Europe is ridiculous. Even if brexit hadn't happened there would still be supply issues due to lack of actual produce. Denying climate impact isn't helpful.

PinkyDinkyDoodle · 03/10/2023 11:29

@AutumnFroglets I agree that climate change is a significant issue, and our chickens are firmly coming home to roost on that one. Our government has put us in a place where we are less able to weather the storm, though. It has significantly put our food security at risk.

I agree that rudeness is uncalled for. Not least, because it encourages a defensive response, and it unlikely to encourage people to think about the argument.
