Tescos 'removed from our range' and loads out of stock

What's going on with Tescos??

7 of my favourites list removed from their range, most no viable substitutes, are supermarkets trying to reduce things to a kind of a stripped back homogenous lump noticed this gradually happen with Sainsburys which is why we switched to Tescos! Plus absolutly loads of stuff out of stock, loads of fruit and veg and meat we normally buy, I reckon about 20% of my favourites list is out of stock

For info removed from range;

Tesco own Belgian Buns
Barenaked Rice
Minor figures milk -we buy 2 types, whole range gone
Arla Oat milk (my go to if above out of stock)
The whole John Ross range of salmon
Organic salmon fillets
Ripe and ready pears
Ecover Bio

In Scotland btw

@RedAndWhiteCarnations YES!! This is exactly what happened with our local (and delivery locality Sainsburys) its horrible like a low budget Aldi lots of cheap and nasty stuff, poor quality battery farm meat, cheap fruit etc. I was shocked when I went into the Sainsburys in England, spoiler alert if we want Aldi/Lidl we'll go to Aldi or Lidl won't we. We have both in town, no point me getting deliveries from Sainsburys if I can just pop up the road- who are running these businesses.

Our local coop and the big Aldi both look a bit barer than usual this week. Hardly any meat selection in th Coop and the F&V section especially fresh fruit was very bare in Aldi.
I wish news would report on food chain or supply issues.

South West of England. Getting fed up with Tesco.

Don't shop in store but have a weekly Click & Collect.

Often no tomatoes are listed (or only the expensive fancy varieties). This week it says packs of 6 salad tomatoes are discontinued. Lately, these have been coming from Poland - not a place I would associate with tomato growing.

600g tubs of Tesco Cottage cheese are no longer available (no info about whether they are waiting on a smaller tub size). Reduced fat medium cheddar has recently been discontinued and the medium cheddar I bought instead was restricted to just the one pack.

Salad veg doesn't seem to keep fresh for very long now. Oranges are dry after just a few days, when they used to keep fresh for up to three weeks. Eggs are still only available in boxes of 6 - not 12 and Tesco Large free range are currently white shelled.

We tend to put in our order at around 10.30 on a Saturday morning when you might expect the store to be well stocked.

I did not vote for Brexit.

Yea is are doing a full range change from next week so lots of out of stocks are because they're not running the lines any more, or they're running them in fewer stores. Saying that I do think Tesco's choice has been getting increasingly rubbish over the last year or so, especially online. My local store shows things as being unavailable for online shopping even when they're on the shelf in the store.

Lovethatforyouhun · 02/10/2023 19:47

Waitrose got rid of almost all of their own brand cleaning and laundry products, then beauty now half the food has gone. Now we do a mixture of Asda and Ocado.
I don’t want to pay extra for branded stuff! So annoying.

daffodilandtulip · 02/10/2023 19:55

And that's just filling your basket. When you actually get to delivery day, another 20 items will be out of stock with random subs. Or they don't even bother finding a sub anymore, even for items like bread.

renovationheavenandhell · 02/10/2023 20:25

@Lovethatforyouhun don't get me started on waitrose, I used to alternate between them and Sainsburys but for months nearly half our order would be missing or subbed on the day!!

There’s a lot of shrinkflation going on. I see that one of the French supermarket chains has started naming and shaming products on the shelves where this happens. That’s what we should be doing here.

TroglodytesTroglodytes · 02/10/2023 20:43

I’ve gone back to shopping in store, deliveries were not worth the hassle with substitutes and missing items. Another thing I’ve noticed is big advertising campaigns for new products and then you can’t get hold of the item. For example, El Paso seemed to be running big advertisements for their new large thin wraps but they are out of stock everywhere. I’ve noticed this with other products, it’s frustrating.

AutumnFroglets · 02/10/2023 20:47

Tesco own Belgian Buns

screams and screams and screams 😱

Hedonism · 02/10/2023 20:49

I've noticed loads of stuff that isn't showing for selection on the app, but surely must stocked be in store.

E.g. spring onions, or a box of dozen eggs.

Chipsahoy · 02/10/2023 20:51

Our Tesco today has no birthday cards or any greeting cards. The candle and diffuser aisle also empty.
It was so bizarre. Also Scotland

Thehonestbadger · 02/10/2023 20:56

not in Scotland but definitely noticed this
it hit me the other day that our ‘weekly’ shop is done from at least 2 supermarkets now with fortnightly trips to 2 others to stock up on a few bits only they have.

MoiraRosesBaybay · 02/10/2023 21:02

I this not just because they are dropping some lines to make space for Christmas stuff.

The only thing I’ve noticed missing is hellmans baconaise.

Hecate01 · 02/10/2023 21:05

When I worked in stock control for Tesco it was usually because there was a change in the pack sizes or a rebrand. It's happened for ages but it seems to be that people notice more now because they shop online and have items saved to their shopping list. If you shop in store chances are you wouldn't notice because the new product is straight out on the shelf with a new barcode in place.

Letsnotargue · 02/10/2023 21:07

I know someone who works in logistics for Tesco and he said they are reducing the number of ways they stock the same thing. So either dropping own brand and leaving branded or vice versa, or selling fewer pack sizes. This really annoyed me as we’ll always buy bigger packs as they’re so much cheaper per unit than the smaller ones. He said that would be less of an option in the future.

Ive not noticed in Sainsburys where we do our shop, but usually when one supermarket does something the others aren’t far behind.

QueenOfThorns · 02/10/2023 21:07

Yes, it’s getting ridiculous. I haven’t been able to order the Tesco baby plum tomatoes for about 2 months. And they also seem to be replacing things with ‘new’ items with the same or a slightly different name without even sneaking in a size reduction. My ‘Snack a Jacks jumbo salt and vinegar rice cakes 117g’ got substituted for ‘Snack a Jacks salt and vinegar jumbo rice cakes 117g’ the other week, and I stared at that one for some time before I worked out the difference!

On the other hand, things that have been ‘removed from our range’ do often seem to come back, so I never give up hope!

VisaWoes · 02/10/2023 21:07

No gluten free mozarella sticks for weeks.

MadisonAvenue · 02/10/2023 21:12

piginapot · 02/10/2023 17:55

In ours they got rid of the Tesco's own £1.20 rinse aid leaving people having to buy the finish one at about £2.80 (they have it in other stores just taken it out of ours!)

Their own cereal bars and caramel rice cakes have also gone, leaving only the more expensive branded ones. So annoying.

I’ve noticed that with my Tesco delivery too. Less of their own items leaving more expensive branded ones as an alternative.

LittleMy77 · 02/10/2023 21:13

Yup, was just saying the same to dh this week! I’d say at least 1/4 of our regularly bought stuff is suddenly discontinued or always out of stock

Its not fancy stuff either; fruit, veg, dips, lettuce, some of the meat, cleaning stuff etc

Doormatnomore · 02/10/2023 21:16

I was buying hot dog buns and they were in 4 packs, honestly who wants 4 hot dog buns.

Greydogs123 · 02/10/2023 21:19

I’ve noticed a lot of their cheaper own brand items are no longer stocked, things I used to buy regularly. Some examples - their own shreddies, their ritz type crackers. I feel like they don’t want to encourage people to buy own brand stuff which is cheaper. Luckily, we’ve just had an Aldi open up nearby, so I’m buying their versions of things instead!

FourChimneys · 02/10/2023 21:21

Three items I have bought from Waitrose forever have now been out of stock for weeks.

I have noticed both in Waitrose and Sainsburys that the shelves don't look properly filled. Lots of gaps or things just in the front row with nothing behind to make it look better.

AquamarineGlass · 02/10/2023 21:24

Christmas stock is being prioritised for delivery to store...panettone, Xmas chocs etc. Should be back to normal soon.

NoParticularPattern · 02/10/2023 21:26

It’s the run up to Christmas. Everything always seems to be unavailable or just not even listed any more. Only it seems to start closer and closer to the kids summer holidays every year now (yes I know I sound like my mother but I’m not wrong!!!!). No size 6+ nappies available on Asda, keep getting caster sugar subbed with granulated, never any Gia garlic purée (and the others ARE NOT THE SAME!!!!), no soft brown sugar, no Doritos flaming hot. It’s getting annoying but I don’t know what I’m supposed to do since I’m not dragging 4 small children round a supermarket on a Saturday morning
