Tescos 'removed from our range' and loads out of stock

What's going on with Tescos??

7 of my favourites list removed from their range, most no viable substitutes, are supermarkets trying to reduce things to a kind of a stripped back homogenous lump noticed this gradually happen with Sainsburys which is why we switched to Tescos! Plus absolutly loads of stuff out of stock, loads of fruit and veg and meat we normally buy, I reckon about 20% of my favourites list is out of stock

For info removed from range;

Tesco own Belgian Buns
Barenaked Rice
Minor figures milk -we buy 2 types, whole range gone
Arla Oat milk (my go to if above out of stock)
The whole John Ross range of salmon
Organic salmon fillets
Ripe and ready pears
Ecover Bio

In Scotland btw

Whilst you have prejudiced, insulting posters such as @SirCharlesRainieret al popping up with their predictable crap on every post, it is impossible to have a balanced conversation. Cereal crops have largely failed this year, along with salad crops due to the weather, Ukraine cannot make its normal contribution for obvious reasons, energy and labour costs have rendered some products unviable and supermarkets are still manipulating consumers and producers to maximise their profit margins. Whilst Brexit hasn't helped matters , it is far from the main issue

LeviOsaNotLeviosaa · 02/10/2023 22:27

Tomato, and other salad veg, shortages are fuck all to do with Brexit. The weather this year decimated crops.

“BrExIt” is so fucking lazy as a response.

Yeah but who got first pick of what was there? Why did the UK have such shortages when Ireland had much more?

BREXIT.

TheSproutOfWrath · 04/10/2023 19:21

Asdas replaced Zoflora with Fabulosa. Now that's gone to be replaced with Zoflora but at a higher price. Little things like that plus the Just Essential range hiked up.
And don't get me started on dog food! £5 for 6 tins!!!

I do a lot of retail audit and so spend a lot of time in supermarkets. I was vastly entertained by a little boy last week who pulled a grey cardboard box off the shelf and asked his father what it was for. They speculated it was something to do with shoplifting. I laughed and explained that it is a shelf filler, to make the shelves more attractive, as otherwise there would be (even more) gaping holes in the displays. Anyone else noticed these? (This was Tesco, but they are endemic)

buddhasbelly · 04/10/2023 19:37

Sorry if already mentioned, there’s a man in the US that spends a lot of time updating all the products experiencing “Shrinkflation”

mostly USA examples but also of note French supermarket Carrefour is going to start putting notes for shoppers on shrinking products

https://www.mouseprint.org/category/downsiz/

Downsizing / Shrinkflation – Mouse Print*

Here are products that have shrunken in size as a sneaky way for manufacturers to pass on a hidden price increase.

buddhasbelly · 04/10/2023 19:43

I’m just looking back on the Shrinkflation website I posted above and this example is particularly crap given the number of people in the US that won’t have insurance and will be paying out small fortunes for these - it seems shrinkflation is a global occurrence.

Glad someone else has noticed the pet food Sprout!

Cat food in jelly in tins still available, in gravy in pouches still available so no shortage of catfood, nor gravy nor tins

Just fucking cat food in gravy in tins.

Unfortunately my cats refuse to eat anything jellied and whilst they are fussy bastards, they are also greedy bastards, so squeezing numerous teeny tiny pouches out all over my hands into their bowls is a pita I could do without.

And that’s before even getting to how much more ££££ per g pouches are to tins.

Or the apparent shortage of cat litter presuming that one is fuel smugglers tho

Some of Tesco's items that say 'removed from range' are actually being downsized and/or the packaging is being changed. Some items are simply being changed into their Christmas packaging so there's a gap in stock whilst this takes place.

I do an online shop with Tesco once a week, and it's become an exercise in spotting price increases and shrinking product sizes. Last week Frijj milkshake was £1.50 for 400ml (a very occasional treat for my DS). This week, the bottle size has shrink to 330ml but the price has stayed the same. A four pack of Pears Soap has gone from £3 last week to £3.60 this week. Whilst I appreciate that some changes occur due to supply issues, etc, I do think that some companies are immorally profiteering on the back of the cost of living crisis.

weirdoboelady · 05/10/2023 00:27

Anyone noticed that butter, which has been sold in 250g packs since the dawn of time, is now often 200g?

Yes!! Lurpaks 500g is now down to 400

MadisonAvenue · 05/10/2023 03:10

I use Coffee Mate and it used to be around £3 for 500g at Tesco. It was unavailable for a while and when it reappeared it was in 325g containers at £3.50.

EtiennePalmiere · 05/10/2023 04:55

socialdilemmawhattodo · 02/10/2023 22:21

And have you seen the company's justification about this on social media. Dreadful. Just the same line repeated indefinitely.

What did they say? Preparing to boycott them 😁

TheSproutOfWrath · 05/10/2023 06:41

@DaisysChains Dry cat food is stupid money now. We have 4 cats and a feral so bulk buy. A 15kg sack used to be £16, now its £26. A 19kg sack has now shrunk to 7.5kg but has risen to £21!!!!

Some of our local supermarkets seem to be shrinking the number of aisles and having shorter shelving units to disguise the shortages.

There also seems to be a lot of home and clothing stuff taking up more and more space.

There's still obvious stock shortages though.

inloveandmarried · 05/10/2023 11:04

Things that show up like that are usually in for a rebrand/product shrinking/price rise for the 'new' product.

It's Tesco trying to be seen to meet what the customer wants whilst trying to get more for every gram.

Just wait. In a few weeks the app will be suggesting XYZ AKA the new product.

I no longer shop at Tesco unless I have no choice.

SirCharlesRainier · 05/10/2023 12:54

AutumnFroglets · 03/10/2023 11:11

I was responding to the pp calling another person a brexit mug when they pointed out salad/veg was in short supply this year due to climate conditions. That was just rude and uncalled for.

Im not saying brexit isn't part of it in getting it to the UK but to insult another pp and not consider the horrendous weather fluctuations we've had over Europe is ridiculous. Even if brexit hadn't happened there would still be supply issues due to lack of actual produce. Denying climate impact isn't helpful.

That was me. I do apologise for being rude about the Brexit-voting mugs who have cost us all money and irreparably damaged our country through being easily led and thick as pigshit. I'll try to be more restrained in future, like they were when they were calling me a traitor and telling me to fuck off to another country.

Madlymumming · 05/10/2023 13:26

Tesco Chocolate Raisins .... 'no longer available'. Ok not an essential item but my weekly treat.

I'm guessing they'll appear back in a new smaller packet and more expensive

Burgundylover · 05/10/2023 13:32

I find there are less shortages now than earlier in the year, both for online shopping and in store. The main thing currently missing for me in Tesco is 1 litre cartons of orange juice.
My current issue with Tesco is lack of delivery time slots - it's not much better than during covid, when I switched to Sainsburys as they had more choice.

skyeisthelimit · 05/10/2023 13:37

Recently they have rebranded loads of things , they were all showing as no longer available , but when I looked further, they were all there under a slightly different name or size with new packaging

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 05/10/2023 13:53

Frozen fish such as cod fillets and fish pie mix have been absent from our Asda for several weeks, this was after a big price hike this year. Waitrose still sell their frozen fish pie mix but it’s ££.

DaisysChains · 05/10/2023 14:31

Sprout crap to hear that too. Part of the family & so good for mental health but yet many folk are facing more difficulty in affording to keep them.

DrNo007 · 05/10/2023 14:37

I was at a conference in the EU recently where retail heads were speaking. One said their branches in UK were facing serious supply chain issues and actual food shortages due to brexit.

Well they would say that wouldn't they😂

InTheStars · 05/10/2023 16:12

@Madlymumming They're back, but in a smaller size I believe. They used to be 200g, didn't they?
