Anyone have any clue what the subject of tonight’s Panorama is? Unusual it still hasn’t been announced?

I'm watching the football tonight but will be keeping an eye on what is going on. Nothing would surprise me now.

mynameiscalypso · 02/10/2023 17:40

I've not seen the Netflix doc but the allegations are pretty vile.

MinnieMouse0 · 02/10/2023 17:42

Is there a second Netflix Abercrombie doc? The one I watched was about how toxic the workplace used to be, nothing to do with sex events!

Atethehalloweenchocs · 02/10/2023 17:45

I read the time thing about the millionaire and the sex slaves, it was truly shocking.

FatOaf · 02/10/2023 17:53

Panorama is usually undercover scandals about things like care homes so anyone expecting salacious celebrity gossip will probably be disappointed

People said exactly the same thing about Dispaches on Channel 4 when it had "the biggest news story of the year" brewing, which then turned out to be a completely predictable exposé of a hasbeen showbiz nobody.

Chgl92 · 02/10/2023 17:53

I've heard on a journalist grapevine it's about David Walliams. I don't know it if that will be huge news, but might be more about BBC cover-ups

Panorama

The Abercrombie Guys: The Dark Side of Cool

Investigating a dark secret in the US fashion industry.

Panorama investigates allegations of exploitation and abuse at the top of one of the biggest fashion brands in the US. Former CEO Mike Jeffries transformed Abercrombie and Fitch from a failing retail chain to a multibillion-dollar empire and the epitome of cool. Now, after months of painstaking investigation, reporter Rianna Croxford speaks to men who say they were recruited into a dark world, created to satisfy the sexual fantasies of Mike Jeffries and his British partner Matthew Smith. Silenced for years by the fear of breaking non-disclosure agreements, these men describe feeling exploited and traumatised by their experience. One high-profile American lawyer has called for prosecutors to investigate.

There’s already been a big Netflix documentary on the Abercrombie issues! Obviously an important issue but not groundbreaking or new, so why was it shrouded in mystery? :/

My guess is the BBC have spent the last few days in court while Abercrombie have tried to silence it. Hence why it’s only being announced now

Or alternatively this is the back up story and there was a different one that was successfully stopped

There was a story in the Times at the weekend which I found quite shocking - some billionaire close to politicians has been accused of basically bringing sex slaves into the UK. I hope it's that and the story doesn't just disappear.

It disappeared quite quickly though didnt it

MyCircumference · 02/10/2023 18:06

abercrombie

i guess the dark mystery is to entice you to watch

StaunchMomma · 02/10/2023 18:08

Seems like a pointless exercise to do an 'expose' of the Abercrombie boss when there has already been an in depth documentary released about him some months ago 🤔

MyCircumference · 02/10/2023 18:08

My guess is the BBC have spent the last few days in court while Abercrombie have tried to silence it. Hence why it’s only being announced now

i think that might be,
@Womencanlift

mynameiscalypso · 02/10/2023 18:12

I agree @Womencanlift. It didn't feel like they were making a big deal out of it themselves to hype up the programme more that they weren't convinced it would be able to be broadcast

My BBC iplayer app says "The Abercrombie Guys: The Dark Side of Cool"

I googled it and the articles talk about Abercrombie & Fitch and various controversies that it's involved with. It doesn't seem a particularly new story, unless they've found something else.

How disappointing. That’s been done to death.

MaudGone · 02/10/2023 18:19

It's already on iPlayer if anyone wants to see it.

duc748 · 02/10/2023 18:19

On the BBC News now.

wiseoldtree · 02/10/2023 18:20

Not going to bother watching now then.

Shame as I was on the hook.

TheGander · 02/10/2023 18:20

Just being mentioned in radio 4 news now. The CEO’s “ work” is very obvious ( irrelevant I know).

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/10/2023 18:21

Abercrombie & Fitch.

itsgoodtobehome · 02/10/2023 18:21

Is that why it's always so dark in their shops? Do you think it's a metaphor for their dark and shady dealings?

Msblueskies · 02/10/2023 18:45

Is Hollister the same company

OnAFrolicOfMyOwn · 02/10/2023 18:55

The media have overplayed their hand now with these 'mystery' exposes that turn out to be entirely predictable.

mynameiscalypso · 02/10/2023 18:57

I feel like the men who were allegedly trafficked and raped deserve to have their stories told.

Fingeronthebutton · 02/10/2023 18:58

The MET is being investigated over malpractice in this case.
