Youtube 'prankster' shot whilst trying to film someone

I'm amazed things like this don't happen more often considering how many people make these kinds of videos winding up random members of the public. Obviously nobody should be shot, but if you think it's funny trying to get a rise out of someone for a video then surely you should understand that one day you may do it to the wrong person

The guy asked him to stop 3 times and tried to push his phone away but he shoved it back in his face again

Yep I agree. In the USA you are allowed to carry concealed weapons with a licence. Always a risk that this could happen. No sympathy at all!

I’ve not read the article but a jury heard it all and found the guy not guilty. Maybe they were all gun nuts, maybe they weren’t, but he was found not guilty.

He got convicted of a lesser offence which is absolutely right. He should get a cut of this guy's YouTube ad revenue too.

I’m not sure which bit of the article angered me more to be honest.

The prick who is messing about, harassing someone and pushing his phone in someone’s face despite being told 3 times not to.

The guy when encountering this harassment his first instinct was to shoot. Not that I agree with carrying a gun, but even threatening with the gun would have been a more measured reaction to the harassment.

Or the prick’s dad who says his son is just having fun (boys will be boys) and it was harmless but thankfully God has plans for his son and saved him. Not the medical team at intensive care.

It’s interesting that in a culture when guns are so prevalent, that the YouTuber isn’t afraid to go up to someone and harass them. It never even enters his brain that this could be a reaction from the people he’s intimidating, it’s all just for the lols. I don’t think a person of colour or a woman would have the same belief that they would be able to harass people like this and walk away unharmed.

Gun laws in the US are frightening. The level of violence used in self defence should be proportionate to the level of threat you’re defending against.

In this case it’s easy to feel sympathy for a man going about his business who was harassed by an idiot. The fact that the idiot was harassing the man so he could film his reaction and put it on YouTube to earn money makes him even less sympathetic. If the man had turned out to be a martial arts expert and knocked the YouTuber out I would have been cheering him on. Shooting him, leaving him requiring major surgery to survive, not so much.

As hard as it is to understand US gun culture, it’s harder to understand a grown adult who goes around harassing people for likes when he knows that lots of them are legally armed.

Absolutely, but because the world is filled with crazy people and we don’t know who they are, wouldn’t it be better to not be a fool in the first place? Better to be in the right and comfortable at home that be in the right in intensive care.

I also don’t think self defence should have to be proportionate either because if your sacred and backed into a corner acting in self defence you are by nature sacred and will be reacting on pure flight or fight not oh well is this proportionate smh.

I think the lesser charge has a hefty sentence. I expect this guy will go to prison without creating a victim out of this deranged prankster who had it coming
