Does anyone need a lot of rest?

I've always been like this! I wouldn't say my life is excessively busy but my dc hasn't been there this weekend and I've slept 11 hours each night! I have medicated depression but otherwise well.

I'm like this. I nap most days despite having a proper nights sleep every night. I am a sahm but my kids are school age so I don't have a particularly busy or difficult life. When I worked full time, the only way I coped was by going to bed at 9.30...even then I was always knackered.

Faytella2020 · 02/10/2023 08:55

Even before dc I was like this. I work 4 days with a 40 min commute either side. Go gym 4 times a week and have dc 70 percent of the time. I don't think that should make me so tired !

Have you had your iron levels checked? Ferritin as well as haemoglobin. I have a friend who was like this and had put it down to her busy and stressful job. Turned out she was also iron deficient.

Spudsanyway · 02/10/2023 11:36

I need quite a bit of rest.....single parent with 3 boys 65% of the time, work 30th, 5-9 gyms sessions a week (body pump and spin classes), house to run, I'm an empath so need to recharge.....hence I'm just about to nap 😴!

Spudsanyway · 02/10/2023 11:36

That should say 2 boys!!!!!!

ricecakesareshit · 02/10/2023 11:36

Me!

I'm about to try and get HRT. it's ridiculous. I'm fit and healthy. Work part time. Husband pulls his weight.

Hate needing to nap just to get through the day.

Eddyraisins · 02/10/2023 11:37

Me! I am sure I am
Undiagnosed ASD. My dd just did the assessment. She is very similar to me.

TheTempest · 02/10/2023 11:38

Yes me too, I do have health issues though. One DC at home aged 14 and I work full time. I spent most lunch breaks having a nap and still sleep all night. Permanently knackered! I have had a gastric sleeve to see if losing the weight will help, I’ll try anything at this point!

I was also like this pre kids....I found a standard 9-5 job utterly exhausting. I slept last night from 11-7 so 8 hours. I have spent the morning pottering around the house and doing some light housework. I feel exhausted. But have to go food shopping now. I will hopefully squeeze a nap in before the afternoon school run.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 02/10/2023 11:39

I'm autistic and iron deficient so tick 2 of the boxes so far. And yes!! I'm a little better now my ferrous sulphate is kicking in.

Oldthyme · 02/10/2023 11:43

Napping is good!
My mum has always napped.
We’d come in from school and she’d just be waking. (She had an evening shift job though, 6pm to 10pm.)
She still naps now. She has a busy morning, snack, then naps for an hour.
Shes 98! No carers, lives alone.
Keep on napping!! 😆

TallulahG · 02/10/2023 11:47

I slept for 13 hours last night. I get 10 hours every night usually.

I’m just built that way I think. I’ve always wanted more sleep! Any less than 8 and I’m a nightmare.

I do take Olanzapine though which has a slight sedative effect.

Pudmyboy · 02/10/2023 12:02

Yes I need at least 8-9 hours sleep per night and can nap in the day, always have needed a full night's sleep. Had a friend who sleeps 6-6.5 hours/night, said I shouldn't need more: tried it: was knackered! Everyone is different, if you need more sleep then go for it!
I often wonder if I am part cat....

TallulahG · 02/10/2023 13:33

I’m definitely part cat. I sleep 10-8 ish. My OH sleeps 12-530! So has 4.5 more hours in their day than me!

JamSandle · 02/10/2023 13:37

Yep...I sleep more than anyone I know.

spitefulandbadgrammar · 02/10/2023 13:39

Me! I want to be a night owl, though, I used to be and I was happier, fulfilled, had hobbies and a life. Now I just go to bed 😭. I have “get blood tests” on my to-do list but I’m too busy and exhausted to get round to it…

uncomfortablydumb53 · 02/10/2023 14:16

I'm like this
I have Cerebral Palsy and am always tired and sore
I am unable to work now and live alone though
If I need to go out, I time it around lunchtime then rest for an hour.
I think it might be genetic as 2 of my DS's are the same!

MaidOfSteel · 02/10/2023 14:28

I'm mid 50s and have noticed that I need a nap most days for about 2 years now. This wasn't the case before. I just call it my nanna nap.

LoubylooLucy · 02/10/2023 14:29

Me!
I have quite a few medical problems which make me exhausted. It’s the medical issues and exhaustion which is why I’m signed off work as I’m only able to be awake 3 hours at a time. Very very annoying.

Oblomov23 · 02/10/2023 14:38

I've always been like this, I need a lot of sleep a lot of rest, this doesn't cause me a problem.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 02/10/2023 14:48

I found a weighted duvet to be life changing. I woke up feeling rested and refreshed!

Comedycook · 02/10/2023 14:50

I'm especially bad in the days leading up to my period...the day before is the worst...I honestly can barely function. I plan on getting a job at some point and I honestly don't know how I will cope on those days.

spitefulandbadgrammar · 02/10/2023 14:52

@Comedycook Yes! And it takes me by surprise every month. “Why am I this knackered AGAIN? Precisely 14 days ago I had some energy for once and now here we are again, every 28 days I’m beyond exhaus— oh.” I’m 42, got my period at 12, you’d think I’d have worked it out by now.

TomatoSandwiches · 02/10/2023 14:53

Yes, I feel like I need a day inbetween every day to just completey rest, everything takes so much mental effort, I'm permanently exhausted.
