Who is the best actor?

Right.

I absolutely ADORE Tom Hanks. Utterly adore him. I think he's an absolutely incredible actor and I've seen most of his films. Ironically not Forrest Gump. But he's just fantastic and seems like a really nice person too. He shits glitter as far as I'm concerned.

But also Leonardo DiCaprio. Look up What's Eating Gilbert Grape. I don't understand how he never won an Oscar for that shit. Same with his withdrawal scene in Basketball Diaries. Fuck me.

Many others I'm sure. But WHO stands out for you?

Daniel Kayuula is outstanding. Just watched Judas and the Black Messiah, and he was unreal.

Yep he’s brilliant

Anthony Hopkins. Would recommend The Father to anyone who hasn’t seen it (it is a hard watch but utterly brilliant).

Wonderful movie!

Hbh17 · 30/09/2023 21:42

Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh are my two favourites, primarily for their stage work.

Also like David Tennant, and Eddie Redmayne was surprisingly good in "Cabaret".

Anthony Hopkins
Mel Gibson
Robin Williams
Johnny Depp

I think it's the crazy edge to them in real life that adds to their acting skills.

TicTacNicNak · 30/09/2023 21:45

I loved Tom Hanks in The Green Mile, my favourite film.

Anthony Hopkins, Emma Thompson, Morgan Freeman, Meryl Streep...all great.

MrsRachelDanvers · 30/09/2023 21:46

Russell Crowe. Everyone remembers Gladiator but I loved his performance in Master And Commander. Known as ‘complex’ and intense, he’s a fabulous actor. Ryan Gosling is pretty versatile. Jack O’Donnell is fine. Female-I rate Emily Blunt. Out of the old actresses, Celia Johnson was decent.

Redlarge · 30/09/2023 21:48

Stephen Graham plays himself in every single role.

Christoph waltz is unreal.

CurlewKate · 30/09/2023 21:48

Emma Thompson.
Tamsin Grieg.
Olivia Coleman.
Kiera Knightly.

Redlarge · 30/09/2023 21:48

Gary Oldman is amazing too

Evan Peters. He is believable in everything I've seen him in, versatile and also sexy as hell. What's not to like.

Hes very good.

OakTreesAreTheBest · 30/09/2023 21:49

Taron Egerton (did I spell that correctly?)

Ian McKellen

Tamsin Grieg is amazing

Agree with Leonardo DiCaprio.

I like actors who make me forget who they are when I'm watching - when I see the character not the actor. I am terrible with faces, which helps!

Bonjovispjs · 30/09/2023 21:50

Tom Hanks is also one of my favourite actors but have loved Jeff Bridges since I was a kid.

Jayneisagirlsname · 30/09/2023 21:51

I adore Emma Thompson as a person and as an actor.
Colin Morgan is excellent- I watch anything he's in, he's like a chameleon.

NotKeanuReeves · 30/09/2023 21:52

Keanu Reeves is one of best actors of all time.

CaptainCallisto · 30/09/2023 21:53

Joaquin Phoenix
Alan Rickman
David Suchet

Karl Urban is one of the most versatile actors. He's fabulous in everything, and has such a fabulous range and breadth of parts!

Iwasafool · 30/09/2023 21:54

John Hurt was a very good actor. Miranda Richardson is brilliant. I like Tom Hanks.

LokiWho221b · 30/09/2023 21:56

Andy Serkis is a great character actor.

Needhelp101 · 30/09/2023 21:58

Paddy Considine is phenomenal.

Agree with the PPs who've mentioned Daniel Kayuula,David Tennant and Michael Sheen.

John Boyega is fab too.

FMSucks · 30/09/2023 22:03

Jack Nicholson all day, every day!

Meadowflower2023 · 30/09/2023 22:05

Another vote for Alan Rickman, he was amazing.

Not on the same level but watch anything with these in because I like their style of acting and each play their roles well.

Liam Neeson
Adam Sandler
Matthew McConaughey
Tom Hardy
Ben Stiller
Steve Carrell
Ryan Gosling

Oh and a few are easy on the eye 😍

BrandyandGinger · 30/09/2023 22:06

I don't think Michael Fassbender has being picking good parts recently but I think he's a great actor and I think he'll eventually get the perfect part and win an Oscar.

Meadowflower2023 · 30/09/2023 22:06

Oh yeah David Tennant too. Brilliant! Extremely talented actor.

JaneyGee · 30/09/2023 22:08

For me, Marlon Brando. He was supernaturally gifted. Watch his early stuff - especially On the Waterfront. John Gielgud was astonishing too (far superior to Lawrence Oliver).

For comedy, Steve Martin (watch him in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with Michael Caine), Rick Mayall, Rowan Atkinson and John Cleese.

Wheredideveryonego · 30/09/2023 22:08

I know he's not as big as some of other named but I really rate Jason Watkins.

I saw him as the head of the vampires in being human and then as a wimpy manager in trollied and it stuck me how he was so believable as 2 such massively different characters. Since then I've searched him out and he's always brilliant!

Also Olivia Coleman is amazing - I remember her seeming like one of those actors who shows up in all the comedy shows but she turned out to be so much more!

JamSandle · 30/09/2023 22:08

Christian Bale is really versatile and intense in everything I've ever seen him in.
