London’s most magical independent shop high streets?

I am in London for a few days in November, and want to go and visit some sweet little gem type shops.

Can you give me a list of the most lovely high streets in London? Ones full of charm and independent shops with lovely folksy stuff (not chain shops)!

Marylebone High Street is nice, and Daunt bookshop is very charming inside (and surprisingly large)

sep135 · 30/09/2023 17:39

Though it has chain shops such as Agnes B etc. The Cancer Research shop there is also nice, plus the deli Bayley and Sage

Spookymormonhelldream · 30/09/2023 17:41

Yup Marylebone high street is place to go!

Highstreetlove8 · 30/09/2023 17:43

Oh I do really like Marylebone high street! Haven’t been in years and years. Definitely will add that to the list - thank you!

Would love to hear of any more! Don’t mind if they’re “neighbourhoody” rather than central. I like exploring new places!

Lambs conduit st and Exmouth Market both lovely

FortunataTagnips · 30/09/2023 18:22

I was going to say Lambs Conduit Street, too.

I’m trying to decide if this one is a riddle and I have to solve it?!

I'm guessing it's not Luton...?

Autumnunmasks · 30/09/2023 18:52

Haha sorry! I was trying to multi task, failed spectacularly! Definitely not Luton 😜

sep135 · 30/09/2023 18:54

Phew, I was struggling to find something similarly positive to say about the high street in Luton...!

NaselHazel · 30/09/2023 18:58

Upper St Islington - the stretch between Islington Green and Florence St, including Cross Street. Definitely not the chain store stretch near Angel Tube

cherryassam · 30/09/2023 19:03

Marylebone is lovely

I also like Bermondsey Street

Flask Walk and some of other little roads off Hampstead High Street might fit the bill too

rainyskylight · 30/09/2023 19:06

Agree with PP about finding the little streets near Angel

ShinyBandana · 30/09/2023 19:12

Go and have a dander around Crystal Palace Triangle

NaselHazel · 30/09/2023 19:23

Camden Passage, off Upper St in Islington, is magical.

ShagratandGorbag4ever · 30/09/2023 19:26

If you like homeware/design shops, Bloomsbury and Pimlico both have plenty.

Highstreetlove8 · 01/10/2023 18:48

Love these suggestions! Getting excited!

I went to Islington recently and that was lovely.

TheInfusionist · 01/10/2023 21:16

I like Broadway Market and surrounding streets

Doggymummar · 01/10/2023 21:17

Richmond looked nice on ted lasso

Ladybirdbookworm · 01/10/2023 21:43

I used to love Crouch End for its fabulous charity shops.

applecatchers36 · 01/10/2023 21:50

Columbia road, E2 has a great stretch of independent shops and interspersed with interesting cafes and restaurants. There is a flower market on a Sunday that's very busy but plenty to see rest of the week.
