"Horror" movies for 9 year old

Does anyone have any suggestions for scary films for my 9 year old DD. Shes not easily scared but she's begging me to let her watch saw (she saw an ad at her dads) and that is NOT about to happen anytime soon, easily scared or not.

So does anyone have any suggestions for more age appropriate scary films?

Coraline. Home for extraordinary children. Nightmare before Christmas. Frankenweiny

HerRoyalStressHead · 30/09/2023 17:41

She's seen all of those unfortunately, she's currently reading the miss peregrines series.
She's also seen all the jurassic park/world movies.
I'm really stumped as she doesn't find any of those scary but of course an actual horror movie is a no go as it would traumatise her and I'm not about to do that.

Does she like musicals? Little Shop of Horror is hilarious.

Hocus Pocus

TheBabylonian · 30/09/2023 17:46

Ghostbumps?

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 30/09/2023 17:47

Goosebumps.

HerRoyalStressHead · 30/09/2023 17:47

She loves the hocus pocus movies.

Do you mean goosebumps? She's not actually seen that yet... that's a good idea. Thank you

The thing is movies like Saw aren’t scary really, they are more gory and sickening than scary.

Even a film like The Village which is a 12 is more scary to many people than Saw.

Bonjovispjs · 30/09/2023 17:48

I second Goosebumps, they're great.

TheBabylonian · 30/09/2023 17:48

Yes I did mean Goosebumps, lol. Jack Black.

TheBabylonian · 30/09/2023 17:50

I wouldn’t call it scary, but there’s the Lockwood & Co. TV Series on Netflix.

Mummy08m · 30/09/2023 17:51

The Others, ghost film with Nicole kidman

junbean · 30/09/2023 17:52

Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark was quite good and I normally hate horror. It's more wholesome but well done. I loved the books as a kid too.

Mummy08m · 30/09/2023 17:52

Locke and Key, teen horror series on netflix

HerRoyalStressHead · 30/09/2023 17:53

Oh I know saw isn't scary, it's more gruesome, but to a 9 year old it would be terrifying.

Yes she's obsessed with Jack Black since the Mario movie and listens to peaches on repeat.

I think the others would go over her head, I don't think she'd grasp it just yet

Monster House is good

CakeInAJar · 30/09/2023 18:00

Goosebumps!

ColonelSpondleClagnut · 30/09/2023 18:04

Watership Down!

🫣 (maybe not!)

Gremlins
Beetlejuice
Sleepy Hollow
🤔

ColonelSpondleClagnut · 30/09/2023 18:06

Ooh what about The Mummy?

TheMurderousGoose · 30/09/2023 18:07

Arachnophobia has some good jittery moments without being gory.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 30/09/2023 18:09

Hocus pocus?

YourNameGoesHere · 30/09/2023 18:13

Glad someone else said watership down as that was my first thought 🤣. I hate horror films but I think I'd rather watch saw than those bloody rabbits again!

TiptoeThroughTheToadstools · 30/09/2023 18:15

Has she seen Creeped Out? It's a series rather than a movie, my kids love it!
