"Horror" movies for 9 year old

Does anyone have any suggestions for scary films for my 9 year old DD. Shes not easily scared but she's begging me to let her watch saw (she saw an ad at her dads) and that is NOT about to happen anytime soon, easily scared or not.

So does anyone have any suggestions for more age appropriate scary films?

The monster squad, was my favourite film when I was that age. Explorers, although that is more Sci fi and the endings a bit crap.

Do you remember sister sister? The twins from that have a few movies called twitches. I think they are on disney plus and then there's other ones from back then like Halloweentown and then going back further there's escape to witch mountain etc I used to find them spooky! Not sure if that's just too dated for kids now though. There is a remake with the rock but I haven't seen that one .

Double double toil and trouble not sure where you can watch it though, none of their films seem to be on any uk streaming platforms which is sad. I was OBSESSED with them 😂

I can’t believe nobody has suggested The Witches yet, me and my sister were so scared by it when we were kids! Didn’t stop us watching it on repeat though. When DS was very little I couldn’t get the scene where the witch pushes the pram down the hill out of my head <shudder>

If she's up for camp 1970s horror/SF TV there's loads... just a few...

Nightmare before Christmas (yes, I know that's more recent)
Carry on Screaming
Chocky
The Changes
Children of the Stones
Quatermass and the Pit
Sapphire and Steel (several episodes are surprisingly scary and both Joanna Lumley and the late David McCallum are tremendous)

Wendell and Wild is a fabulous spooky animated film on Netflix. Highly recommended!

Don't let your 9 year old watch Poltergeist, I say that as someone who has been in love with horror since I was 2. That film instilled a serious phobia of the dark.

My dd loved Poltergeist but had sleepless nights after Coraline and Goosebumps.

Just remembered another one, Something Wicked This Way Comes, creepy but not scary. It's not streaming anywhere but is available on YouTube
