Limetreee · 30/09/2023 07:53

Your poor mum 💐

My Facebook memories has just reminded me that 10 years ago my mum was sitting up in bed in hospital having breakfast, after being admitted the day before with a brain haemorrhage after a fall and us being told to expect the worse. She made a full recovery and still here, now in her 90s

Sending you both best wishes.

The not knowing exactly what's what is the worst. When you know, you can deal with it.

I was in hospital yesterday for a routine appointment but have to go back in this morning. Not fun places.

But to make you smile, my local hospital is on a hill, so you go up in the lift and still end up on ground floor level. Lots of slopes and walking. Anyway, had my appointment yesterday, the lady in with my consultant directed me to the pharmacy afterwards. So I did slopes, lifts, floors, slopes, took ages, found the pharmacy and BAM!!! The lady who directed me suddenly appeared right in front of me like an apparition and said 'ah, you found it!'. I was terrified! Apparently there is a short cut for staff, I thought she'd teleported herself there! 😆

Hospitals are not fun but you're both in the best place. Just beware of teleporting medical staff!

Wen I had DS our hospital had the main building and a separate women's building. We were in for a week and had to go to the main building for a scan so we were taken via underground tunnels. The midwife seemed a little unsure of the way and I had visions of us being lost down there for days!

Your poor Mum. Hoping the surgery goes well and that she has a speedy and trouble free recovery.

Nanaof1 · 30/09/2023 10:04

Make sure she knows she has many heartfelt wishes for a complete and quick recovery. From all over the world--USA here.

OP's Mum--Keep your spirits up and know you are being sent "get well" wishes from everywhere! 💐🌹🌻🌷💝

LulooLemon · 30/09/2023 10:29

Hope she's better soon

IClaudine · 30/09/2023 10:35

Oh your poor mum. Could it be time for a stairlift when she gets home? I hope she gets better soon.

fancyfrogs · 30/09/2023 21:25

Hope surgery went well x

Memberofstaff · 30/09/2023 22:35

@Nanaof1 I'll tell her that when I go to visit tomorrow, thank you.

She's had emergency surgery today so I haven't been able to see her.

It's unbelievable how quickly something can happen to change your life. Carpe Diem.

How did the surgery go? Didn't want to bug you but have been thinking of your Mum and how she is doing.

givemeasunnyday · 02/10/2023 05:31

Goodness, your poor Mum!! Sending her good wishes from New Zealand. 💐

Memberofstaff · 02/10/2023 08:22

@Nanaof1 thank you so much for asking. The surgery went well and she is now on the high dependency ward where they're taking really good care of her. She's been able to eat and drink and she was quite cheerful yesterday.

The road to recovery will be long but she's doing well so far.

@givemeasunnyday thank you!

Oh that is good to hear! Keeping her spirits up is really important and she might have days where she doesn't feel "up". If you can, think of something she might enjoy but is a bit silly and funny so if she has a down day, you can give her a little surprise.

Keep us updated when you can or just message me through here with an update.

Take care of yourself too! 🤗

Limetreee · 02/10/2023 11:09

So pleased the surgery went well. She sounds a real trooper ! You must be so relieved. Glad to hear their looking after her well. It might not be the case on the general ward. Ours wasn’t, far from it actually. Fingers crossed for you all.

margegunderson · 02/10/2023 22:36

Do make sure you find out accurately what they did. My mum broke her hip in lockdown 1 and we were relying on getting the medical detail from staff by phone. They assured us it had been pinned - we found out six months later she's had a partial hip replacement and wasn't sent out with any of the right advice on what to do/not do. This caused a few problems.

Limetreee · 03/10/2023 06:38

margegunderson Yes this is so important.Same thing happened to us, only it wasn’t lockdown. Drs seemed reluctant to tell us anything.

Memberofstaff · 12/10/2023 23:00

Just a quick update for anyone interested. Mum is still in hospital but doing really well. She's managing to walk with a frame and has even climbed a step, something that seemed a world away only two weeks ago.

Thank you so much to everyone who posted their good wishes and thoughts, all of them were much appreciated.

Hoping that she will be home before too much longer.
