Period knickers, is it me, or am I doing something wrong?

So I purchased some Cheeky Wipes period knickers, the heavy flow ones, thinking they would be better than pads.

However I’m on my 3rd day with them now and I’m finding them such a faff!

You have to take your trousers off to change them, I’m on my 3rd pair today and have spent 15 mins with the tap constantly running rinsing out knickers.

The blood goes all over my hands and just seems to take forever to rinse out.

I don’t know were to put them once they have been rinsed without them dripping everywhere, as they haven’t been spun in a machine etc.

I draped them over the bath until I was to put a dark wash on, only to then find that they left a stain in my bath (stone bath) which would only come off with a special cleaner.

Am I missing something here? I feel like they’re more work than they’re worth.

Why are you changing them so frequently? I have a really heavy flow but I only change once in morning when getting up and once before bed.

They feel heavy and there is blood sitting on the top of the top layer which according to cheeky website means they need to be changed.

As they’re taking so long to rinse, I’m guessing they’re full when I’m changing them

I don't rate the cheeky monkey ones and only use them on very light days. I put on a clean pair of Modibodi ones in the morning and another before bed and they never feel heavy.

I think other brands might be better. The pants and pads I bought from Cheeky Wipes were terrible, just not absorbent despite being the recommended ones. Yet friends with ones by other brands have found them to be really good, I was bereft at the wasted money!

What do you do with them when they’re wet?

I feel like I’m looking for washing to put in with them so they aren’t hanging around wet

I use Modibody but on my heavy days I use then with a mooncup. The mooncup needs emptying every hour or so so I can't imagine the pants lasting all day.

My daughter uses the cheeky wipes ones. She puts a reusable pad in in the morning and takes it out in the afternoon. No need to remove trousers to do that and one pair of pants then lasts all day.

I pop mine in a wet bag until I can get them in the washing machine.

They don't suit me at all OP.

I think you’re changing them too frequently. I find that sometimes there is “material” sitting on top that cannot be absorbed (trying to be delicate here, but I’m sure we all experience the kind of stringy/mucousy stuff on heavier days) but that doesn’t mean that they need changing. Sometimes dabbing the surface with toilet paper is all you need and you’re good to go.

Try changing less often and see how you go.

I have a soaking bucket, also from Cheeky Wipes, that sits in the bath. Or a washing up bowl would do.

Did you wash them before using them? I suspect you are meant to pre wash to increase absorbency.

Store used ones in a wet bag.

My wuka pants were brilliant and I had a really heavy flow, sounds like you've just got rubbish ones

I find them useful on light days or if I think I might start in the night.

The wet ones I put in a little caddy till a wash goes on.

Sorry for the tmi question but how can you stand the feeling of 'dripping'? Makes me feel queasy!

I use the Primark ones, and they're honestly great! I got them to see how I got on with the idea, with the intention of getting more expensive ones if I decided to go with it, but I haven't needed to, they're really good, and I haven't had to buy a single pad or tampon in the past 2 years, have 8 pairs which sees me through each period, I shower twice a day when on, so just rinse them in the shower with me, then into a waterproof bag in the washing basket, then empty the bag into the wash when I'm doing a load. I find it less hassle than sanitary towels, as I can't stand having used ones in the inside bin, so was having to constantly take them out to the main bin, and was changing them 6 times a day, so this is a much better option.

Are you storing them in water or not?

yes they were all washed before worn.

I personally don't need to change them this often and I don't find it difficult to remove my trousers to change them, however sometimes -admittedly when I am at home- I just put a reusable pad on top so that I only need to remove that to have some 'extra time' on the period knickers.
About the problem of having them wet, I don't rinse them every time. I just put them in a plastic bag and then in the washing machine. I gave them a quick 15 minutes wash to remove most of the blood and then I wash them again on a normal cycle with the rest of my dark underwear.

I would do the same as people use washable nappies. Either in a lidded bin with mesh liner ( we used brabantia, you would only need small size). Just take liner out and whole lot into machine.
Or get wet bags. They would be better probably as you can use small one for our and about. A small wet bag fits one full nappy usually, so small would prob fit 4-6 pairs pants.

I only really use mine at the end of a period and during with a cup. I wouldn't use them all the time for the same reason as I don't use pads - I don't like the feeling and I'm self conscious about smells.

I also just bung mine in the machine when they need it tbh. Although they're not filled with blood it'll just be a little bit.

I can't cope with this either. It's mooncups all the way over here.

Why don't you rinse them then put them straight in the washer? Surely you're not just rinsing and drying them?

Even if you're not putting a wash straight on, this is surely better than them hanging around your house.

Let's face it, any product with the word 'cheeky' in it doesn't deserve to be purchased

Don’t overthink it. Chuck them in cold water, leave for a couple of hours, wring out. Chuck in washing machine (I bulk it out with towels).

You seriously do not need to be laboriously rinsing then out by hand as soon as you take them off.

One thing I sometimes do is take them off first thing in the morning, chuck on the floor of the shower, and rinse with the shower water, pressing with my feet! Two birds with one stone and all that.
