Whats the general view of this these days

OP posts:
MyJetNowAirlines · 28/09/2023 13:12

No, but I’m not in a position where I would be putting vulnerable people at risk if I do have it.

LlynTegid · 28/09/2023 13:13

Yes I would. Don't want to give it to others and would not want to be travelling to an office then.

Bacarach · 28/09/2023 13:15

I did last time about two months ago and I feel ill at the moment so if I can buy a test I will buy one, but only because it will strengthen my case to stay off work and because I don't want to spread it.

Hbh17 · 28/09/2023 13:16

Of course not - there is no need and no legal requirement.

weirdoboelady · 28/09/2023 13:16

PSA - yes I would test but am outraged at having to pay £2 So I went to Amazon - just over £5 for 5 tests but you had to buy 3. Put 3 in shopping basket.

Went back the next day and the price had magically dropped. Now just under £5 and you have to buy only 2. So 10 tests for under a tenner - every household should have a stock, IMHO.

(Putting stuff in your cart for later is an old Amazon trick I assume everyone knows)

Missedmytoe · 28/09/2023 13:17

Yes. I have friends and family who are immuno-suppressed and catching Covid could kill them.
If I'm unwell with anything contagious, I keep away. If I thought I had Covid I'd test, so that I could minimise the risk of making other people ill.

Stroopwaffels · 28/09/2023 13:17

No. If I was feeling very unwell I'd stay at home, just as I would if I were unwell with anything else.

countvoncount · 28/09/2023 13:19

Absolutely not being goady, but interested in peoples views in my position.
I manage a massive Dental practice, currently have 2 nurses off with covid.
Our guidelines are that if you test positive you must stay home blah blah
Now here's the tricky part, these nurses are no longer being paid for being off with covid, not my decision but company policy.
So now the general chit chat is why test? They can't afford to be off.
I have obviously stressed they must test if symptomatic.
So as a general public opinion... would you want to visit the dentist in this instance?
So many people are saying just go about your business etc, in some cases you have to still take it as seriously as we did in the past surely?

ChocolateCakeOverspill · 28/09/2023 13:19

Yes, currently ill with it. I work in a university and it would spread like wildfire. I also have a relative who is having chemo and am so upset that I may have unknowingly infected them before I felt ill, tested and started isolating.

Justwrong68 · 28/09/2023 13:22

I did today because I'm seeing friends tonight and a few of them have vulnerable relatives

caramond · 28/09/2023 13:24

Yes have just tested twice this past week because I have symptoms. Negative on both tests and I feel OK to go out to work etc but would have stayed at home for 5 days if I had been covid positive; wouldn't want to spread it. I was also curious just to know anyway.

JaneJeffer · 28/09/2023 13:25

No what difference does it make?

mn29 · 28/09/2023 13:27

Yes. It's the right thing to do to protect the vulnerable. If you're in a shop, on a train etc you have no idea who is vulnerable/living with/caring for someone someone vulnerable.

QuitChewingMyPlectrum · 28/09/2023 13:31

Yep. Currently +ve and feeling pretty rancid

uncomfortablydumb53 · 28/09/2023 13:38

Yes absolutely I would
Partly out of curiosity as I've escaped it so far, and I have a vulnerable couple that I see regularly. I would let anyone else I was meeting up know, so they have the option to postpone, same as if I had a heavy cold It's common courtesy

Starboy14 · 28/09/2023 13:45

No.

Lovesocksie · 28/09/2023 13:51

Weekly deaths ‘with covid on the death certificate’ in August was 25.
Thats a 0.000037% chance of dying not of covid but with covid.

Considering a very dear friend of mine has just left the ambulance service because of covid being mentioned on the death certificate of some poor soul who died in a motorcycle accident- sick of the fake numbers, and I personally saw them shove a bloody great stick up my dear mother in laws nose every day when she was dying of lung cancer desperately trying to prove she had covid so that could be put on the death certificate, then I think that 0.000037% chance reduces further.

You’re not going to kill your granny or a dear old lady on the train.

However I would always avoid mixing when ill as far as was humanly possible as that’s the right thing to do. I also realise for some getting covid is not pleasant and can have lasting side effects. It’s just the rhetoric of us killing each other when we’re damn well not, in order to control us that upsets me.

skyeisthelimit · 28/09/2023 13:53

Yes. I am CEV as is my dad, so why would I want to unknowingly infect him.

moderationincludingmoderation · 28/09/2023 13:57

IkeaMeatballGravy · 28/09/2023 10:15

Not since I ran out of free tests. I wouldn't go to the shop and buy tests for flu, colds etc so I won't for Covid. I wouldn't visit a hospital, vulnerable person, new baby etc with any kind of illness. Work is a different matter, if I am able to work, I have to be in, covid or not.

This.

We don't test for other viruses.

mydogisthebest · 28/09/2023 14:00

Yes of course I would.

Me and DH both had covid in August. I know I had it and was to ill to even get out of bed for 3 days. DH only had very mild cold symptoms but he still tested because he works in peoples' houses and would never put other people's health at risk. He stayed home until he tested negative

Lottie4 · 28/09/2023 14:15

I did last Saturday, it was positive. I'd had three days of a minor headache and then a sore throat overnight into Saturday - I half thought it was related to stress, but thought I'd check as we were meeting family - it was positive.

Also, I work in a school and in a hope and knowing the true result has meant I can reduce my contact with hundreds of people while I'm positive.

Lottie4 · 28/09/2023 14:24

countvoncount I've actually got covid at the moment, part of my tooth cracked off last night, it's ragged, very sensitive and my tongue is now sore, but I wouldn't dream of asking for an emergency appointment this week. On the other hand, I wouldn't be impressed if someone was looking over my mouth knowing they had covid. One of my jobs won't pay me - only pay three days a year and sadly I've already used two days with a sickness bug, that leaves one day paid until next August!

Houseplanter · 28/09/2023 14:37

No because it would make difference to how I behave

If I'm unwell I stay away from others and rest. Like I've always done. I don't need to know precisely what bacteria or virus I have.

OTM1982 · 28/09/2023 14:40

Nope.

HarrietofFire · 28/09/2023 14:42

Yes because I qualify for antivirals and get free tests. The sooner I know the better.
