Whats the general view of this these days

Yes, I did a test yesterday as I was feeling rough, it was negative.

I have tests left over so no harm in doing one, and my DD goes to a Special School and there are a few vulnerable Children there so if we had of had covid in our household I would then have tested my DD and if she had it I would have informed school and kept her home, even though you don't have to.

Mariposista · 28/09/2023 10:44

I never did back then so I certainly wouldn't now.
Feel unwell? = rest
Feel ok to carry on? = carry on

Yes

Have just tested positive and feel awful.

DH is still entitled to free tests, I saw it’s £2 for a single LFT in shops.

People aren’t going to pay that, few people are testing and more people are spreading.

I agree. It's a pain and an expense to go and buy tests. Free or bulk boxes of tests should be provided when the strain is as nasty as it is now.

I'm surprised at the number of people who are fine to mix inside (at work etc) with people with covid, particularly those that say they can't afford to not work. I think I'd do a bit more masking with a decent filter mask if I was in that position. I'm doing it on the train now just because I want to reduce the risk of catching it and feeling like shite!

Hiddenmnetter · 28/09/2023 10:47

Even if it is Covid and you feel fine, bit achey and a fever and a cough, with Paracetemol I carried on…as I would with any other illness. If I’m too unwell to work, then I book off sick and go to bed. What else should we be doing?

I tried wearing a mask at work, people treated me very differently when they couldn't see half my face. Given the choice people would go to my colleague's till over mine and I found it harder to meet my add on targets which was starting to affect my work. I was also less effective at demonstrating products on the shop floor and meeting targets there as the general public seem to prefer interacting with an unmasked person.

BethDuttonsTwin · 28/09/2023 10:58

If I had a test about. I certainly wouldn't buy one specially.

AhhSlippedOnMahBeansRitaaa · 28/09/2023 10:58

I did and it was. I felt beyond awful and didn't want to pass it to my mum. School told me even if the kids were positive to send them in if well.

Phos · 28/09/2023 11:00

No.

FortunataTagnips · 28/09/2023 12:38

Yes. My DP tested positive, so I tested myself and DD. We were due to see my dad, who’s 84, and didn’t want to infect him. DD goes to a special school with some very vulnerable children who really don’t need a dose of Covid.

ilovesooty · 28/09/2023 12:40

Yes.

Figgygal · 28/09/2023 12:41

Yes I would

Twitch45 · 28/09/2023 12:43

I would test if I knew I was going to be in contact with my parents/in-laws who are all in their late 70s/80s. FIL in particular is very vulnerable. My job sometimes involves being in contact with CEV people, so I would test if I was due to see them.

Otherwise, no.

Theunamedcat · 28/09/2023 12:45

No im not paying for tests and who is benefiting if I do? If you miss work you get written up miss school you have the attendance officer on your back and threats of fines so you need to push on

EmmaGrundyForPM · 28/09/2023 12:48

No, but if I had symptoms I wouldn't go out. I WFH so wouldn't need to mix with anyone. If I felt really ill I'd call in sick and go to bed

underneaththeash · 28/09/2023 12:50

I would, but then I also have tests for flu and strep A at home (for the kids).
i work in healthcare and wouldn’t want to infect my whole day’s patient list with either!

Lemonpledge · 28/09/2023 12:51

I only test if I'm expected to attend an event and I don't want to go (hoping for a +).

RaininSummer · 28/09/2023 12:51

Yes if I was going to work or to see my family or anyone else up close.

CloakandDagger1 · 28/09/2023 13:04

No

DanielsDancingMonkey · 28/09/2023 13:04

Yes. I still feel a responsibility to others not to spread it around.

SofiYol · 28/09/2023 13:05

I have a close family member going through chemo and radio so yes.

It saddens me that people are happy to continue as normal knowing that there are still people out there that it could have severe consequences for.

gotomomo · 28/09/2023 13:06

No, when they stopped providing tests, I stopped testing.

NonMiDispiace · 28/09/2023 13:07

Me too.
I felt really rough last week but tested negative twice. I just kept indoors for a few days.I think it’s rather confusing as to just what we are expected to do nowadays.
For me I would stay indoors regardless but it’s easy for me because I am retired and have little need to mix with others unless I choose to.

gotomomo · 28/09/2023 13:09

I should add, if I feel rough I stay at home whatever the flavour of virus. If you are ill you don't need a test to tell you are ill

Justhereforthebabynames · 28/09/2023 13:10

No. Wouldn't test even if I knew it was likely to be covid. I'd stay in if I was too sick to go out and go out if I was not.

Tessasanderson · 28/09/2023 13:11

Not a chance in hell. No way am i getting dragged back into that shit way of existing.

I think im more worried about stubbing my big toe than covid. We have had a couple of instances of it at work over last year or two. The person effected has a day or two off work and comes back. Works in an office by themselves until they feel fine and everyone gets one with their work.

Screw getting dragged back into other peoples disaster movie again.
