Morning Has Broken - Cat Stevens
The theme from the TV series Black Beauty
Chopin Nocturne Op 9 no. 2 in E flat

The 'Black Beauty' theme is called "Galloping Home" and played by the London Symphony Orchestra...

Hills of the north rejoice. Best hymn ever

On your own - verve

Cabaret - Lisa minelli

Yes! Fantastic hymn. We had it at our wedding, much to the vicar's puzzlement. I love it. The words but also the music.

Yes, thank you, I do know exactly what it is.

I like the thought of Mr Blue Sky by ELO as well.

I went to the funeral of someone who died in their mid 40s from cancer and this was the last song. It was lovely and I now think of her whenever I hear it.

A dear friend of mine had this played as the last piece of music at their funeral - it wasn't listed on the funeral program either. Everyone stood listening and as it dawned on people what the song was smiles and chuckles started to go round the crematorium - he always did have the last laugh...

Flying without wings
I vow to thee my country
Circle of life.

A bit eclectic I know.

Cabeza · 27/09/2023 20:12

Let your love flow - Bellamy Brothers
Make me a channel of your peace- I adore the Come From Away mix of religious songs which includes this but has too much talking for a song.

Not sure about the third. Days by Kirsty MacColl or Chasing Rainbows by Shed Seven maybe. Let your love flow would be the final one though, to end on something uplifting. Unless Always look on the bright side of life.

Closing time, Leonard Cohen
Every grain of sand, Bob Dylan
Anthem, Leonard Cohen

muddyford · 27/09/2023 20:17

The theme from 'Chariots of Fire ' if to be in a crematorium.
'He who would valiant be'.
'Pictures at an Exhibition ' by Mussorky (not sure that's the correct spelling).

GirlFromMarsBars · 27/09/2023 20:17

Green Day Good Riddance for me too.

If I was going to have a religious funeral with hymns (which I hope they don't throw me as I'm no longer a church goer) I'd have Abide with me and I Watch the Sunrise.

Eriskay Love Lilt - Aled Jones sings it beautifully

AndyPandyismyhero · 27/09/2023 20:24

Morning from Peer Gynt by Grieg
Can't help falling in love by Elvis
Where my heart will take me by Russel Watson

I have also chosen a poem I would like to be read. Afterglow. It's quite short but hopefully has the right sentiment.
