Creep by Radiohead
Closing from Glassworks, by Philip Glass
Days by The Kinks

And if I’m allowed another, Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong

griegwithhimandhim · 27/09/2023 19:05

Nimrod - Elgar

Going Home - Mark Knopfler, from the film Local Hero

Bring Me Sunshine - Morecambe & Wise.

There are actually quite a few that I can think of, but those three immediately sprang to mind.

Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer.

The Day Thou Gavest Lord, Is Ended.

Widor’s organ toccata, or the organ version of the Jeremiah Clarke Teumpet voluntary, which we had at our wedding.

What a wonderful world. Louis Armstrong
Highland Cathedral.
My way. Frank Sinatra

Be Still, For The Presence of The Lord

No Hard Feelings (The Avett Brothers)

Those are the two that I would like people to remember me by.

I sang ‘Be Still’ as my beloved gran was carried into a packed church 4 months ago. Got to the end and then fainted spectacularly on the Reverend. She seemed to know that would happen way before I did. We are now great friends after that incident 🤣

@IDontCareMatthewImSpeakingToRachel - just had my Mum's funeral, and she had chosen the Disturbed version of SOS too 💔

Whataretheodds · 27/09/2023 19:34

Fauré Requiem - as much as possible
Abide with Me
The Day Thou Gavest
Why Worry - Dire Straits

Need something upbeat and hopeful to finish on.

Clearly I'm expecting a state funeral

CapEBarra · 27/09/2023 19:35

Welcome to the DCC - Nothing But Thieves
All That You Can’t Leave Behind - U2
And a different Be Still - The Killers.

Some Fantastic Place by Squeeze.
Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer
A song by Kate Rusby, not sure which and it might depend on time of year.

BiddyPop · 27/09/2023 19:38

Eagle's Wings

There's a Clannad piece that is lovely and haunting that I can't remember just now

Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell

I heard Helvegen by Wardruna for the first time just a few weeks ago and it immediately went straight to the top of my funeral list.

Long standing contender is Spiegel im Spiegal by Arvo Part, which just such an incredible and moving piece of music and very meaningful to me as gave me such peace after my DH died.

I also love The Day Thou Gavest and Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer and although I am not religious, I think they are beautiful, comforting hymns.

Sophia89 · 27/09/2023 19:44

I'm a bit of an odd one but I'd choose Conga del fuego. It's the only piece of music I truly love. Classical, orchestral but with Spanish vibes. Doesn't need any lyrics or words. I suppose that's how I am as a person. Sorry to those who have mentioned loved ones' funerals 💐

DaisyWaldron · 27/09/2023 19:46

Dido's Lament
The Joy of Living by Ewan McColl.

Not sure about the third.

PermanentTemporary · 27/09/2023 19:48

They can play what they like. I kind of hope it will be something by Steely Dan, but can imagine slightly furrowed brows given the totally obscure lyrics. Maybe My Old School, or Reelin In the Years?

Alternatively I Will Follow You Into the Dark by Death Cab for Cutie.

Pixie2015 · 27/09/2023 19:49

Whitney Houston - greatest love of all

keep changing my mind on others but possibility’s
billy joel - always a woman
celine Dione - heart will go on
george Ezra - green green grass

rumred · 27/09/2023 19:50

Hills of the north rejoice. Best hymn ever

On your own - verve

Cabaret - Lisa minelli

Fourfurrymonsters · 27/09/2023 19:50

Exogenesis Part 3 - Redemption, by Muse
An absolutely gorgeous piece of classical/rock opera, one of my favourite Muse songs.

Planet Earth II suite by Hans Zimmer
I’ve seen this performed live and cried my eyes out at just how beautiful it was…

I like the thought of Mr Blue Sky by ELO as well.

PermanentTemporary · 27/09/2023 19:51

We had When The Saints go Marching In played live by Humphrey Lyttelton and his band for my dad. To me it captured something incredibly joyous about him and that whole generation

muchalover · 27/09/2023 19:52

More than a feeling - Boston
At Seventeen - Janis Ian
Gypsy's tramps and thieves - Cher
