He stands for nothing

That suits his following, he’s just a vessel for whatever their individual grievances are.

I’m pretty sure it’s a cult tactic, leave everything open to interpretation so it fits a bigger audience.

I have no time for LF or the odious GB News, but I have concerns about his arrest. Chris Packham was allowed a TV programme to explore whether it was right for him to consider personally breaking the law for activism. Don’t see the police searching his house or charging him with anything. In times when the police can’t respond to burglaries etc, this just seems a complete farce. So instead of ringing the police to tell them there’s a burglar in your home and having them just give you a crime number, perhaps ring and say you’re on your way out to smash up a ULEZ device and you’ll have the Sweeney on your doorstep in seconds.

Good summary @SerafinasGoose He stands for nothing and desperately clings on to any passing nonsense.

Michelle Dewberry, apparently one of the presenters on GBN, was on ITV this morning. Complaining about all the mainstream bias and non reporting of things like grooming gangs, she was then given a list of the coverage GMB had done and people they'd had on, so she went on to Brexit and how mainstream hadn't given a voice to Brexit supporters. Iain Dale was on, pointed out he was a brexiteer and he's on GMB a couple of times a week, although he did agree panels would be remain heavy.

She then tried to have a go at Jacqui Smith who wiped the floor with her. She accused JS of laughing about the panels being remain heavy, actually I think Jacqui Smith was laughing about Iain Dale being on TV regularly as a brexiteer while being told brexiteers weren't on.

She didn't make me want to watch her programme. Don't know if that is the normal standard.

Iain Dale and Jacquie Smith are a double act and get on like a house on fire. They're meedja people constantly on panels. Similar to Owen Jones, Carole Malone, Jemma Forte, Marina Purkiss, Andrew Pierce, Kevin Maguire..... blah blah. They're paid to talk shite.

Shite or no shite Jacqui Smith put Michelle Dewberry back in her box. She looked like no one had ever stood up to her before and my didn't she go into reverse quickly.

I am in my 50s. When I was younger (and up to c. 15 years ago) say 80s/90s/2000s free speech was anything apart from incitement to violence. Then came hate speech laws and social media. I feel alot less free to speak at work etc. than then because of the toxic atmosphere and censoriousness bred by these 2 changes for the worse. Things were so much better up to early 2000s, alot more trust including in the police who because of things such as non hate crime incidents apply the law incredibly arbitrarily and are alot more political.

You just can't say anything nowadays
It's political correctness gone mad......

There’s quite a big difference between exploring the question of whether it is right for him to break the law and what Fox has been doing on social media which is actively encouraging people to break the law. For a start one of those things is still legal and the other isn’t.

You would hope that having an ethical discussion would remain legal but it’s difficult to tell with this government.

newnamethanks · 06/10/2023 10:48

Unreasonable Rafais, you have used the words 'ethical' and 'this government' in the same sentence. Never the twain shall meet.

Yes @cakeorwine it is so funny that many on here have only noticed the clampdown on free speech and demonising of opponents since it affected their rights as women (the trans issue). Not sure if you're taking the piss or not but it's a serious issue which needs to be discussed sensibly (something many unable to do).

Oh I am taking the piss.

In the old days, you still had to think about the language you used. It's just that the internet has made people much more aware of the language people use.

People also didn't want to be associated with people who expressed certain views and used certain language.

That article just makes him out to be an out of control idiot right from a teen I didn't watch Lewis but I think some fans got him and the character confused!

Iain Dale and Jacqui Smith are definitely mates. I am sure they had a podcast together

That’s quite a good article in the DM. It’s quite measured and sane. It didn’t even tell us how much his house is worth.

As multiple people have told the Daily Mail this week his increasingly extreme transition to increasingly extreme 'anti-woke' activist appears to have its roots in the tumultuous collapse of his nine-year marriage to Billie Piper, who at the time they met was best known as companion to David Tennant's Time Lord in Doctor Who.

Like fuck it does.Angry It's roots predate him even meeting Billie Piper, nevermind their divorce which happened because of Laurence Fox's own misogyny, arrogance, sense of entitlement and extreme stupidity.

newnamethanks · 08/10/2023 10:02

Agreed. The man is an unreconstructed oaf and unlikely to change. He isn't Hathaway, a character constructed by others, he is showing us who he is, has been and probably always will be.

Mrsjayy · 08/10/2023 10:12

Yes I think that's probably all he ever was!

shadypines · 08/10/2023 10:13

It was depressing that Fox said these caveman remarks in the first place.
It was depressing that empty head Whooton smirked along.
It was depressing that Whooton thought that commenting on the woman's ' beauty' then made it ok.
It was even more depressing that scrolling along on the rolling news was that a 15 yr old girl had been stabbed to death at a bus stop.
All connected around the attitude that some males have towards women.

Well isn't it a great example to certain people? A right wing brexiteer and a left wing former Labour politician who is a remainer beine friends just shows how people should be behaving.
