I had a girls world and a screwball scramble, starting to think I was spoilt

43ontherocksporfavor · 26/09/2023 16:51

Girls world was soooo bad. A hard face to crayon on makeup. Nothing like the advert!

Phlewf · 26/09/2023 16:52

I thought I was the bees knees, I had the fisher price record player and tape player, the barbie dream house with the lift outside, the duplo farm, girls world head thing . But I was the youngest cousin by 10 years and they had all been through 3 cousins first. I don’t know that things came in boxes new. I thought they just appeared played with. I was pretty huffy when I realised I’d had nothing new but then the cousins got huffy cause I got everything where they only got a share because they were closer in age.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 26/09/2023 16:53

Mr Frosty. I craved him for years. Then I found one for 20p at a jumble sale. I've never got over the disappointment, what a waste of 20p.

Gowlett · 26/09/2023 16:54

My cousin had the Cadbury mini vending machine when we spent one Christmas with them. It was amazing!

Mrsjayy · 26/09/2023 16:55

Evel.Kinevel motorbike jump thing because well for boys also see anything Starwars not that I'm bitter!

Cerealforever · 26/09/2023 16:56

I loved my Mr Frosty!

My parents would never have refused us a toy cos they thought it was crap. They were nice like that.

becarefulofyourheart · 26/09/2023 16:59

I still kinda want one…

Liv999 · 26/09/2023 17:36

Always wanted a Care Bear but never got one, eventually got one from my DD for Mother's Day a few years back 😂

Aurora2023 · 26/09/2023 17:38

I desperately wanted an Etch a Sketch and a space hopper. (Those lovely orange ones from Woolies). I wasn't allowed either and was never given an explanation. Now I'm in my late 50s and actually really do still want both 😂
Oh and a Chopper bike. Dad said they were dangerous so at least I got an explanation for that one.

fiddlesticksandotherwords · 26/09/2023 17:47

I wanted a pony.

Didn't stand a chance really, did I?

God, I was a sucker for adverts.

There's one I can still remember now : a woman singing "turn biscuits into clothes" that I thought sounded incredible - imagine, biscuits that become clothes. Just like real life magic. I was desperate to see this transformation and went on and on at my mum about buying clothesbiscuits, until she lost her shit and said they don't actually turn into clothes and don't be so stupid. (It was probably some kind of money off voucher on the wrapper.)

Brilliant 😂😂

Mrsjayy · 26/09/2023 19:39

When i was about 12/13 I asked for a phone for my bedroom like the ones in an American programme I watched I can't even remember the programme. Mum just laughed at me

VenusClapTrap · 26/09/2023 19:44

Mudflaps · 25/09/2023 00:27

Buckaroo! The horse/mule you load items on to until it bucks them off. I asked Santy for it but he couldn't read my writing and brought me a pirate based board game called Buccaneer which was way too advanced for me... my family laughed about this for years after I'd grown up, I actually bought myself one a few years ago and it's great fun as a drinking game but it still stings.

Klaxon! You are the only person I’ve ever met who remembers Buccaneer! I loved that game. I won it by entering a competition on the back of a cereal box. I still have it, and now my kids love it too.

VenusClapTrap · 26/09/2023 19:58

But to answer the op, the Christmas present I never forgot not getting was a Petster. It was an electronic cat. My parents pointed out that we already had a real cat, which was much better than an electronic one, apparently. I can still remember trying to hide my disappointment on Christmas Day and having to go upstairs for a little secret cry.

Failingatthemoment · 27/09/2023 07:29

Not bragging but i just remembered u had a pocket Simon! And a Chipper bike ( off to google if its related to the chopper!)

Im in my fifties and I do plan to get myself an etch a sketch next time I see one on offer, I've been thinking about them a lot recently.
I also wanted a chopper bike but I think your dad was right. Those handlebars, plus the children I knew that had one were always injuring themselves with the gears slipping.
I had a single speed Raleigh striker, loved that bike.

TrippyPink · 27/09/2023 11:09

Mr Frosty - my mum would never discuss why Santa wouldnt bring this particular gift, it was literally folklore. However I remember buying my teenager a different version of it when he was little and it was absolute crap.

Dreamphone was another toy I enjoyed at other peoples homes but I wasnt allowed my own, my parents werent even strict either, but I think they drew the line of a 7 year old me playing a game which consisted of being chatted up by grown men.

ShortColdandGrey · 27/09/2023 11:34

@beakyboo10 I still have my Starlite, well my daughter has him now in her room and it is still one of my favourite Christmas presents

Beargrumps22 · 03/10/2023 17:32

I always also wanted one of the Cadbury vending machines; I used to dream about it looking through Mum's Littlewoods catalog but never got one!
we did have good presents though; I had a space hopper, not an orange one but a pink bunny one with a cute face and ears, telephones we could talk on intercom style ones, and brilliant toy tills which kept getting better and better as technology advanced. oh the pleasure of looking through that catalog for hours and hours

ZoeyBartlett · 03/10/2023 17:37

Cobwobs · 26/09/2023 13:47

A 'Girl's World' styling head😒

Same. Desperately! My Dad finally sent me one when I was 30 🤣

cocksstrideintheevening · 03/10/2023 17:39

Mr Frosty. My mum always maintained they were rubbish.

I was so excited to buy one for my kids. My mum was right - they are shit.

Molly54320 · 03/10/2023 17:41

I wanted a lava lamp and never got one because my mum was paranoid I’d drop it and set the house on fire

Chipperchopper · 03/10/2023 17:47

Yes, I wanted the Petster electronic cat too! Was told it was silly and pointless. Never got a Girls world makeup head as they said it would scare me in the night. Would have loved the Cadbury vending machine, actually dreamt about that last night coincidentally. I used to get quite random gifts that I'd never requested!

FeebasAquarium · 03/10/2023 17:51

Yeah mr frosty as well, were the adverts extra persuasive or something?? My mum thought it would be rubbish, I also wanted the Cadbury’s vending machine but couldn’t work out how I’d be able to get refills so never asked for it.

Also a horse, always a horse (due to over exposure to black beauty presumably as I’d never actually ridden!)

@becarefulofyourheart i swapped my poochie for a my little pony baby. I still regret it 😢 I couldn’t even complain as I’d wasn’t allowed to do it in the first place (should’ve listened!)
