Barbie and a Barbie house.

I already had a Sindy and my parents made me a room set a la Blue Peter.

IamSmarticus · 26/09/2023 12:44

I'm another who wanted (but never got) a Mr Frosty. No idea why, probably because my parents knew they were crap Grin

I also wanted a Play Dough Fuzzy Pumper Barber Shop - probably never got one because I was about 14 by the time I decided I wanted one so waaaay too old for things designed for young children!

teenysaladandsniffofarose · 26/09/2023 12:45

Feeling very superior that I had a mr frostyGrin

I always wanted silvanian family's but they were so expensive.

Presil · 26/09/2023 12:47

A wind up Eval Kineval that could really jump over (toy) cars. My mum thought it was promoting dangerous motorbike behaviour.

Well I showed her a couple of summers later when I split my sister's head open attempting to stunt-jump over her using a pushbike and a ramp made out of bricks and old fence panels. No Eval Kineval required - I was dangerous enough on my own. (Sorry sis 😭)

ErrolTheDragon · 26/09/2023 12:47

I wanted a Sindy with house and even more her horse. I was allowed to choose one thing from a catalogue for Xmas each year and I knew the Sindy stuff was too expensive.

DH asked for a recorder... he meant a tape recorder...

FASDE1517 · 26/09/2023 12:48

Dream Phone and Mr Frosty!

Blimeor · 26/09/2023 12:52

Glow Worm

justme2022 · 26/09/2023 12:57

Wasn't allowed a mr frosty because of the extraordinary amount of people my mum knew who knew people whose kids had apparently cut the tip of their fingers off using them. She finally came through for my 40th birthday though. I knew I'd wear her down eventually.

bookworm14 · 26/09/2023 12:59

The Playmobil Victorian mansion. I’m sure it was just too expensive for my parents who had four kids and one income!

Spodey · 26/09/2023 13:02

Not Christmas specifically, but I was desperate for Clark’s Magic Steps shoes! Never got any. Think I was swayed by the amazing advert tbh!

Presil · 26/09/2023 13:08

God, I was a sucker for adverts.

There's one I can still remember now : a woman singing "turn biscuits into clothes" that I thought sounded incredible - imagine, biscuits that become clothes. Just like real life magic. I was desperate to see this transformation and went on and on at my mum about buying clothesbiscuits, until she lost her shit and said they don't actually turn into clothes and don't be so stupid. (It was probably some kind of money off voucher on the wrapper.)

MadisonAvenue · 26/09/2023 13:09

In the 70s there was a hob and pans, think it was Fisher Price, which we had in the play house at school and I desperately wanted one but I was naughty (can’t remember what I did) and was told that because of that I wouldn’t be getting my hob.

Got a real one now, hate it.

Fulfilled my need for a Mr Frosty when I bought one for my sons. Think it was used once, found to be utterly useless and eventually taken to the charity shop.

beakyboo10 · 26/09/2023 13:22

Rainbow Brite's pony called Starlite, just seen one for sale on Ebay. I did get a Mr Frosty and it was the only time I heard my Grandad swear as he accidentally broke the handle the first time we used it.

IggyAce · 26/09/2023 13:24

Cabbage patch doll, my mum refused to buy me one because she thought they were ugly.

ChessieFL · 26/09/2023 13:25

A La Carte kitchen. Not sure why, probably too big/expensive.

And Mr Frosty - mum probably thought it would cause too much mess. I was jealous of my friend because she had one and never played with it (probably a sign of how crap it was in reality).

OctoblocksAssemble · 26/09/2023 13:28

Ballerina barbie, made all the worse by the fact that my best friend did get one. I got dog walker barbie, and I was completely unamused as I hated dogs at the time.

I did laugh at Debbie's motivation in Adams Family 2. I suppose I should be greatful that I didn't get Malibu Barbie. Who knows what might have happened 😂

Thebigblueballoon · 26/09/2023 13:29

One of those real ovens that would cook simple stuff like cake mix. Think it was called an Easy Bake Oven. I’m guessing the parents didn’t trust me with anything that actually heated up.

A Barbie Dreamhouse. I suspect I didn’t get one of those because I had a perfectly usable large wooden Barbie house.

A real horse. We had a stable and paddock area in the garden, so that one stung a lot. 😂

EmmaGrundyForPM · 26/09/2023 13:35

The Fisher Price garage where you wound a little handle and the cars got lifted to the top floor where you coukd zoom them down the ramp.

One of my friends had one and I was obsessed with it. Never got one but I did get a Hotwheels ramp where the cars did a loop-the-loop. Not as much fun though.

I bought the FP garage for my dc when they were small. They never played with it

These were my mine too. Bemused why we couldn't just keep a pony in our tiny yard.

DanceMumTaxi · 26/09/2023 13:42

A La carte kitchen that really cooked the beans 😂 My mum told me years later that they were rarer than hens teeth and they just just couldn’t get hold of one as a Christmas present so they had to get a different one. Also wanted a mr frosty, but was allowed one because they were rubbish. My brother always asked for a chemistry set. He never got one. I think my mum thought he couldn’t be trusted with it.

Dd wants the Barbie dream house. She’ll never get it because it’s bloody massive and too expensive.

Cobwobs · 26/09/2023 13:47

A 'Girl's World' styling head😒

Edited

I'm with your brother. I always asked for a chemistry set, never got one. Probably safety concerns or cost, but I never found out the reason.
I did have the dairy milk minis machine though Smile

Mistressanne · 26/09/2023 13:48

A portable typewriter. My dsis got one.
My dsis was older and always got the trendy gifts.
A bicycle from when i was 10, eventually when i was 15 I got a secondhand bike for my birthday, my db had painted it.
I loved that bike.

BCBird · 26/09/2023 13:50

OP I wanted the chocolate machine and the Mr Frosty. Got neither🙄am scarred for life🤣

Aposterhasnoname · 26/09/2023 13:55

A bike ☹️, well actually a chopper, but any bike would have done. What 70s kid didn’t have a bike? It’s not like they couldn’t afford either, they were just worried we’d fall off.
