Minor irritations that drive you disproportionately nuts

Having to search for the use by date on foods. You eventually track the bastard down printed in tiny type on a bit of inner packaging which you then have to hold up to the light and use four pairs of glasses and a magnifying glass to read. Drives me bonkers. Would love to hear other people's disproportionately infuriating petty annoyances.

When you open a yoghurt lid and it splatters all over your top.
Usually when you're at work too 🤬

Phoning a company and having to ..
A. Listen to a load of rubbish.
B. Select an option.
C. Listen to music on a loop.
D. Just when you think someone has answered, you get more music instead!
E. After all that, you get told that you need X dept, not Y and they transfer you, to torture you with more music.
Or.
F. You get disconnected when they pick up 🤬

My husband's car. It's like a mobile disco!
Open door. Ding dong bing bong.
Put key in. . Ding dong bing bong.
Turn on. Ding dong bing bong.
Put seatbelt on. Ding dong bing bong.
If that's not enough, everything flashes on the dashboard!
Why? Just why? It's not a bloody jumbo jet!

I have to pay for milk for my primary-aged DCs in Scotland. I honestly don't mind the money, it's the admin around it that makes me want to personally gift 25 cows to the school. The amount is always something like £6.73, cannot be a tenner or any cash, has to be paid on an app that never works or we haven't received the login details for, nd has to be paid a term in advance. I absolutely hate, hate, hate the milk payment. And I havent yet found one fellow school mum who has the same/any issues with it!

People who sneeze VERY loudly with no attempt to stifle it or use a tissue (and it's always men).
Dog walkers who allow their dogs to run up to you (and I love dogs).
Dog walkers who allow their dogs to poop everywhere and don't pick it up.
Supermarkets that charge eye watering amounts for gluten free bread - Coeliacs NEED gluten free bread. It's not a lifestyle choice.
Gluten free manufacturers who charge £2.75 for a loaf of bread which is about 1/3 of the size of a full-of-gluten loaf - then when you open the packet, you find that there is a large hole in every slice right down to the bottom.
AND gluten free biscuit manufacturers - I HATE YOU for charging a disgusting amount of money for a small packet of tiny gluten free chocolate digestives.

Is gluten free stuff not free for those with coeliac nowadays? I remember my friend getting a big box of rice, pasta etc on prescription (circa mid 2000s)

Simply don’t buy the milk.

My dd has never had milk at school. There isn’t a need for it, really. She takes a bottle of water.

@SamAndEIIa
Certain things are free on prescription but it depends where you live as to what you can get. But the gf prescription stuff was always ghastly....

That makes sense!
This was back in the 2000s when I believe all the “alternatives” were ghastly anyway! I do remember going with my friend and she got a large cardboard box of “free” groceries - as students, this was a huge deal for all of us, lol.
We are in Scotland where all prescriptions are free; said friend no longer lives in the UK so I wasn’t sure if they still provided the food or not.

Using the internet. It’s supposed to be quick. I just want to check a price or an item, but instead it goes:

Google the website
Cookie consent
Load the website
Cookie consent
Pop up to sign in or register - close it
Try to click ‘search’
Pop up offering newsletter signup- close that, go back and search.
Try to click on one of the results - pop up to download the app comes up - accidentally click that, app store opens up. Close that, go back to website.
Wait to see if it’s safe before trying to do anything else.
Finally about to click on what I want, then

’OH HEY! If you need any help, just ask! :)’

The virtual help fucker then minimises, hovering over the item I actually want to click on.

Close everything, give up.

BananaPalm · 26/09/2023 00:16

I DETEST accidentally dropping things. You have to then bend down to pick it up. Grrrr... Or knocking things over. Hate it. And it's happening so often since I had my DS 🙈

Twilight7777 · 26/09/2023 00:18

The new lids attached to bottles! I swear to god that they make it more likely to fizz up too!

Not to mention “wait forever for fucking useless Safari to load, if it does at all”.

I’ll probably get bashed for this but lately people parking in parent and child bays with no children really grinds my gears. I don’t really know why it annoys me so much 😂

I do sometimes do this. Usually because I don’t have a blue badge myself but I do sometimes drive a disabled passenger who can’t walk far and struggles to get in and out. I’m not eligible to use disabled spaces so the P&C space is the best option.

I don’t get the slumping over trolley thing. What difference does it make to your life? All the other things on this thread actually impact the poster in some way.

I’m going to add TK Maxx price stickers. I just spent 10 minutes trying to get one off a present for my mother and it still looks shit.

Use a hairdryer on TKMaxx stickers. Works a treat

Being stuck in traffic behind a van or lorry. Can't see what the traffic ahead of me is doing and it just gives me the absolute rage.

thiswayupsidedown · 26/09/2023 07:34

When my lovely old dog got old he started letting out a random loud bark. Just the one and it was so loud it would make us jump out of our skin and get the instant rage.
For months you would hear “WOOF”…… “fucking hell!!!!”
I did nearly cry laughing when DH wandered into the lounge looking down at his phone and said “I’ve found that restaurant you were on ab…”
WOOF
and his hand involuntarily threw the phone across the room 😂

Fizbosshoes · 26/09/2023 09:08

The wording on carpark payment machines
"Overpayment accepted"
Like it's a huge kindness to accept more than the already extortionate fee for parking for an hour (or more....since they've taken away the half hour option) . It makes me cross every time I see it!!

Oooh, thank you for reminding me about the ATM that beeps at me to take my receipt immediately, before I've even removed the cash. That's after beeping at me to take the money. Have tried beating the beep and I can't. I KNOW there's a receipt, I asked for one!

Miss93 · 26/09/2023 09:37

Or catching my sleeve on the door handle.

Iheartchampagne · 26/09/2023 09:56

Jamie redknapp pretending he wears skechers and even worse, hands free skechers as he's so old he can't bend down.

Yes to the water down your sleeve and uour rubber gloves too.

Pacifically instead of specifically
Absolutely 100% about empty cups in soaps!!

The loud dog Woof is my fave so far.

People who use their phone speaker on public transport. They should be met by a firing squad at their destination.

NumberFortyNorhamGardens · 26/09/2023 10:28

The after effects of having gel nails. I had my nails done at the hotel on holiday over a month ago, and apparently they used some hard gel on the base layer so acetone would not touch it. The salon I went to back home had to actually grind it all off and I’m left with thin, flaky nails that catch on everything.

I hear you. My DD did my nails a while ago and the base layer is still sitting there in lumps. I’ve filed the worst of it off and am covering it up with ridge filler, a couple of coats of neutral nail varnish and a really good quick-dry top coat, all of which will come off easily with normal nail polish remover. Gels are the work of the devil.

NumberFortyNorhamGardens · 26/09/2023 10:31

Shampoos that don’t wash your hair but leave a slimy film all over it, making it limp, dull and itchy - despite being marketed as ‘silicone free’.

Paynefully · 26/09/2023 10:34

Cleaning the sink.. when you squeeze the rang out to finish the job and no matter how carefully you do it.. you’ll still get water drops on your nice clean sink that you then have to go in and wipe AGAIN.
