Minor irritations that drive you disproportionately nuts

Having to search for the use by date on foods. You eventually track the bastard down printed in tiny type on a bit of inner packaging which you then have to hold up to the light and use four pairs of glasses and a magnifying glass to read. Drives me bonkers. Would love to hear other people's disproportionately infuriating petty annoyances.

Adult cyclists riding two abreast and chatting when traffic cannot safely overtake two.

@AuntieJoyce I don’t get the slumping over trolley thing. What difference does it make to your life?

Other than not wanting a trolley where a stomach or breasts have been slumped all over it, I feel for the user of the trolley as a mobility aid, and wonder if they have had an OT assessment or had a proper assessment? 🤔

Again- this is NOT the point of the light hearted thread!

But they're not naked tummies or breasts surely?

For me it's when people don't finish a cup of tea or coffee and just leave the cup sitting there. Cold tea and coffee makes me feel sick.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 25/09/2023 00:26

Delivery drivers who knock so quietly they may as well be plucking a spiders web, and then say I wasn't at home.

SamAndEIIa · 25/09/2023 00:40

People who stop to have a chat in the doorway of a supermarket. Or in the middle of an aisle.

People who wait til they are being served to decide what they want.

People who leave their indicators on.

People who don’t say please and thank you.

People who interrupt.

People.

When I'm clearly trying to reverse out of a space in a car park and someone nonchalantly walks behind the car in a dawdling fashion as though they actually want to be crushed to death.

Also, whistling.

Banking app verification

I just want to buy some cat food/a phone charger / some leggings off of an entirely normal website that I have used many times before.

WHY must I now log in to my banking app and verify the fecking purchase. Every time. I've given you my thumbprint and Google pay and the 3 numbers off the back of my card, isn't that ENOUGH?!

Yes yes I know it's a security thing but any old random could walk into Asda and buy all of the above with a tap of my card and nary a backward glance!

This drives me nuts too! I look after my elderly dad and buy his stuff on his debit card which is stored in my phone and verified with a thumbprint and the 3 digit code. Every single time I try to buy something, I then have to ring him and he has to go upstairs, get his iPad and log on to banking.

restlessandwondering · 25/09/2023 00:56

And oh one more (I'm on a roll!).
I booked my car in for a MOT and Service and had to use a different garage as my regular one is all booked up. I asked if there was any chance the garage could pick up the car and he said yes but it would be an extra £40 charge. £40 for him to drive 3 miles to my house and collect the car. Errr no.

I was irrationally raging about the cheek of him for a good 24 hours. 😂

RenoDakota · 25/09/2023 00:57

People just standing in a room or doorway when everyone else is sitting down.

Derviadog · 25/09/2023 03:12

I'm with you there. And Americans that say "I could care less". Grr

MeinKraft · 25/09/2023 03:35

When I fall asleep at kids bedtime and wake up at 3am having missed snacks and wine time Sad actually didn't even have any dinner this evening I fell asleep that early!

Petrol stations are the worst for this. As soon as you put the reversing light on people rush to wander behind the car

TommyNever · 25/09/2023 03:42

Lifting a glass or cup and finding the coaster still stuck to the bottom, but before you can remove it, it falls off and rolls across the room. Sends me into a blind rage, quite stupidly.

Catsmere · 25/09/2023 03:55

Fucking radios and televisions all day every day from neighbours. Not super loud, but these units have very thin walls, so I have to have a white noise machine on, and can't have my front door or window open.

"Peel here" packets that don't peel at all and need to be hacked apart with scissors.

Packets with the rigid shaped plastic (think batteries, tools and the like) that resists being opened by any means.

Idiots who open the dryer doors in the communal laundry, find your washing is still wet and then don't bother to restart the machine (the start button has to be pushed again). Likewise when it's done, they don't bother turning the thing off properly, or emptying the lint filter, despite the large signs reminding them to do so.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 25/09/2023 04:35

Tin Foil that does not peel off and you spend ages trying for it to end up a worse mess than when you started, I have brought it back to the shop to get a different one/brand.
The annoying D4 accent that so many people tend to have here in Ireland now and does my head in. It is kind of a made up accent trying to sound posh with a bit of an American twang.

Flatandhappy · 25/09/2023 04:36

Baby on board signs on cars are wanky at the best of times, but a private hospital nearby with a maternity department have obviously started handing out (or selling) “Name of private hospital” baby on board signs, in either blue or pink just in case anyone gives a shit about the gender of your baby. I don’t know why they annoy me so much but they do.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 25/09/2023 04:37

Derviadog, that 'I could care less' they say does my head in, as makes no sense at all.

CaetwmpynBoBwmpyn · 24/09/2023 23:05

When people say pacifically instead of specifically - and I don't think that's even wrong, iirc, I'm just a dick and think 'that's the wrong word' every time. Its not like it harms me, why am I so bothered

There was an advert for some eye thing that used it, a bloody advert, on TV.

WinterDeWinter · 25/09/2023 05:08

People who say ‘in covid times’. it’s weirdly twee and also sounds way too long for a couple of bloody years - it’s not like ‘the olden days’.

WinterDeWinter · 25/09/2023 05:11

Also, ‘a couple years.’ OF years you arsehole.

@Pebblesontheside

People crawling along towards a red traffic light rather than coming to stop and waiting

This is called 'slow to flow' and it's suggested for better fuel economy - it takes less power to speed up if you're already moving even slowly than from a standing start.

I do it....I hope I'm not the one annoying you ☺️

But they still end up stopping anyway. Fair enough if the lights are about to change but these types seem to have no concept that lights go green in turn and it’s someone else’s turn now.

THIS!!!! There's one in my local park from 2015!

I remove them. I've come to the conclusion that most people are oblivious to their surroundings and just don't see things like that.

When people drink out of cups on films or TV programmes and you can tell there is nothing in the cup

Add to that ads for moisturiser where the model clearly ISN'T using any on her face.

Awrite · 25/09/2023 09:03

People (well dh and ds) who open doors in the house with such a sense of urgency that it gives me a fright. It can even wake me out of a deep sleep.

Taylorscat · 25/09/2023 09:07

People with Teslas or land rovers .

Just no need to spend that much money on a car. Do something good with it instead.
