I mean it was lovely but I always come away thinking I can make bigger and better myself. I want to be stuffed full 😀

@HeddaGarbled

or some restaurants might think it was great feedback from a customer and the waiters would be pleased to pass it on so customers are happy and they get to keep their jobs.

FFS some people are so determined to be offended and bullied.

No it absolutely doesn't. It adds to it. You can always create a buffer zone of mash potato though if you're worried about the cheese sauce mixing with the gravy.

Mash with a roast? That’s almost worse than brown sauce!

Shadypaws23 · 24/09/2023 20:45

Rather have a carvery! I get one of the too good to go bags for £3.29
It's all mixed up but I got this and 5 Yorkshire puddings and it did 2 meals

Feedback would be “could we have some more potatoes/veg?” or “the portion size is a bit small”, not a dickish joke-not-joke about a magnifying glass.

TheClitterati · 25/09/2023 07:43

I would have said £16 but I've not been out for a Sunday roast since before the pandemic

Isittimeformynapyet · 24/09/2023 19:23

If I get served a tiny dinner in a restaurant, when the waiter asks if there's anything else they can get me I say "ooh, yes, a magnifying glass please"

You're the kind of customer that hospitality staff hate, just so you know!

BarbaraofSeville · 25/09/2023 08:31

FFS, you'd have thought that people would know by now that in some cultures rice, with or without peas, is a standard part of a roast dinner, but these threads always have the 'what kind of weirdo eats rice on a roast dinner' comments.

I wouldn't put brown sauce on one, mainly as it's never occurred to me, but logic suggests that it's really no different to mustard or horseradish so why not? BIL puts gherkins on his at Christmas.

Was going to suggest Toby Carvery myself, although I see that's now £14 on a Sunday. I'm sure the last time I went it was half that - just shows you how often I eat out

It is cheaper during the week, but it's not surprising it's gone up as pre covid, it was £5.99 I think, so pretty cheap. I sometimes get one while out and about for work, as it's reasonably quick, a lot nicer than something like a garage sandwich and healthier if mainly sticking to meat, veg and a bit of gravy, without huge amounts of stuffing, Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes. While not the height of gourmet cooking, it's really not that bad, the veg is usually more nicely cooked and I think fresh not frozen, compared with the other carvery chains.

BarbaraofSeville · 25/09/2023 08:33

But the portion size in the OP looks fine for a plated meal, rather than a serve yourself carvery. Don't like the watery gravy though.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 25/09/2023 08:43

Where are the roast potatoes??

Around here it’d be around £18-20.

But IMO a home made roast is always better. Things like roast potatoes need to go straight from oven to plate, not hang around keeping hot. Ditto all veg. And cauliflower cheese anywhere but home is almost always disappointing - cauliflower overcooked/not properly drained so it makes the sauce watery/not enough cheese in the sauce.
Mine, OTOH, is invariably superb.🙂

Ooh no! You need two types of potato with a roast. One needs to be roast potatoes (obviously) but the other type can by mash.

Also Northern....

Oblomov23 · 25/09/2023 09:01

Anything between £17 and £25 seems to be standard for a roast these days. Quite shocking really!

mydogisthebest · 25/09/2023 10:16

I would rather cook my own roast dinner every time.

Restaurants often use frozen roast potatoes and yorkshires and I am not keen on either.

I cook my own roast potatoes and yorkshires and we have carrots, roast parsnips, mashed parsnips, brussels, cauliflower, green beans, tenderstem brocolli and peas.

Oh and no gravy. Me and DH both hate gravy

The problem with having two chefs in the family is that eating out is now nowhere near as enjoyable as eating in.... also, they tell you all the likely kitchen secrets...

I'm assuming that one is homemade because the beef dinner looks much nicer! This looks fine but nothing special. And another northerner her, brown sauce definitely a you thing but whatever makes you happy, if you like it you like it 🤷‍♀️

oohsharon · 15/10/2023 17:50

Is that frozen veg and yorkshires? 😱

Where's the stuffing? The creamy leeks, the mash, the pigs?! Bloody hell OP

That reminds me. Where's the poster who was having her friends round today for a roast? 🤔

EachandEveryone · 15/10/2023 18:22

Jeez I roasted a chicken and nothing is frozen thank you. I wish I’d never bothered it wasn’t for anyone but myself I’m not asking for it to be judged!

Comedycook · 15/10/2023 18:24

Was going to guess £18

I dislike going out for a roast dinner...I can make much nicer myself and for far less so I always resent it.

FuckingHellAdele · 15/10/2023 18:28

Those Yorkshires are sub standard.

Aunt Bessies?

margotrose · 15/10/2023 18:30

The yorkshires and vegetables just look like the ones you can buy pre-prepared in the chilled section of the supermarket - they taste fine IMO.

ForfarBridie · 15/10/2023 18:30

Op, your dinner looks lovely and I hope you and your family are now sitting on the couch watching tv with warm, full belly’s.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 15/10/2023 18:31

I just had a nicer one than that (in the north) for £19, but it was the first one out I've hand in ages and did feel expensive even if it was delicious.

Yummy :)

MrsDrudge · 15/10/2023 18:35

£15 -£20 depending on where you are.
Meat looks nice but no roasties? No cauli cheese? Measly portion of veg and watery gravy. Yorkie pud makes it look a more generous portion.

LubaLuca · 15/10/2023 18:37

I'd be disappointed with the lack of veg and the consistency of the gravy. I like going out for Sunday lunch but the best bit is always the lack of hassle, never the excellent food or value for money.
