I mean it was lovely but I always come away thinking I can make bigger and better myself. I want to be stuffed full 😀

Ooh that beef looks good though!

The Yorkshire pud is doing a lot of heavy lifting. The portions look measly.

Yes, they rely on people piling their plates with 'unlimited Yorkshire puddings'. Mind you, the Yorkshire pudding originated for similar reasons - to fill you up so you didn't miss a lack of more expensive meat.

I prefer to do my own roast dinners the way I like them, and obviously it works out cheaper especially as the leftovers (even if it's not a Mumsnet Chicken) will usually do another meal next day.

LeftyLou · 24/09/2023 13:26

That is very expensive for what you get. There is a pub near me that do Sunday lunch with a choice of 3 meats, Yorkshire pudding, roast and mash potato, cauliflower cheese veg and gravy. Also with choice of sauces. All piled high for £12. Very tasty too.

80sMum · 24/09/2023 13:26

The price seems about right I suppose. There's plenty of meat there but I would ditch the Yorkshire pudding (pointless carbs) and at have at least double that amount of vegetables - and add some more gravy. But definitely no brown sauce!

This

Depends where in the country you are? Up north this would probably be £16-£18

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/09/2023 13:27

meat looks perfect.

Ineedwinenow · 24/09/2023 13:28

That gravy is dish water! Gravy should be sliced 😆

poorbuthappy · 24/09/2023 13:29

We will only go to 1 pub for Sunday dinner because they nail it every time with unlimited gravy and cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire pudding on all meats without asking.
Otherwise it's home cooked all the way.

melmonroe · 24/09/2023 13:30

Gravy looks nasty but not as nasty as the thought of brown sauce with roast 🤮

ordinarybarbie · 24/09/2023 13:31

I always think of a roast as a fairly cheap meal depending on what meat you buy. I've done roast beef for 6 today, cauli cheese, roasties, Yorkers, honey carrots and parnsips, broccoli and peas. The meat was £16 so I reckon it was no more than £25 for the whole thing, plus I've got about 1/3 of the joint left for the rest of the week

Letstrythisonefornow · 24/09/2023 13:32

Also a vote for brown sauce on a roast. Everyone in the house raises an eyebrow but fuck ‘em 😂

GigiAnnna · 24/09/2023 13:37

That looks a waste of money. Measly portion, watery gravy and not enough, and I can only see one potato. Near me that would cost about £15.

PuppyMonkey · 24/09/2023 13:37

The meat looks very nice - the pubs near me can’t cope with a bit of red. Agree that brown sauce doesn’t go on a roast, but neither does gravy imho. Making everything all soggy and tasting the same. Why ruin a nice crisp roast potato like that?Confused

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/09/2023 13:39

“. Measly portion”

Agree could do with more veg but I thought the meat and yorkie looked just right. Hate wasting food and some places pile it on.

Meeting · 24/09/2023 13:42

I couldn't eat that food with that watery gravy I'd have had to send it back.

caffelattetogo · 24/09/2023 13:44

That looks small for a roast. We have it in place of two meals at home (lunch and dinner) so it's usually a substantial affair. I'd be disappointed with that. How were the potatoes? We're there any?

Fallenangelofthenorth · 24/09/2023 13:45

My friend sent me this picture last week. £4.50 - you can't see the beef unfortunately as that's hiding under the slightly burned yorkie but the veg looks decent and 4.50 is crazy!

We pay similar for an almost identical Roast Dinner near here.Lovely old country pub .Roaring fire and oak beams .This is what you pay for too.Carvery probably cheaper but like School Dinners I think!

caffelattetogo · 24/09/2023 13:45

diddl · 24/09/2023 13:46

Yorkshire pud & meat look nice but veg a bit basic.

Comtesse · 24/09/2023 13:48

So I guess I appreciate the convenience occasionally but the value for money for a pub roast is crap really. At least the beef wasn’t cooked to shoe leather - nice rosy colour!

Missingmyusername · 24/09/2023 13:51

EachandEveryone · 24/09/2023 13:04

£19 I thought it was dear really. There’s certainly money to be made on a Sunday.

I don’t think £17 is bad. It’s a hell of a lot of meat though, DH loves his meat but yuck.
Where are the roasties and the gravy looks like brown water.

jackstini · 24/09/2023 13:55

@Fallenangelofthenorth - where was that?!

Yesnomaybeok · 24/09/2023 13:56

EachandEveryone · 24/09/2023 13:04

Veg was bland

It's boiled veg 🤷

CeeJay81 · 24/09/2023 13:57

There's a lovely village pub near me that does amazing Sunday roasts, about £10 for a small or £13-14 for a large(which is huge). Much nicer than that pic looks. Think we are spoilt here.
