How much is this roast dinner?

I mean it was lovely but I always come away thinking I can make bigger and better myself. I want to be stuffed full 😀

It actually looks nicely cooked and maybe the gravy is made using meat juices rather than gravy mix. However it is small. I always find pub/restaurant roast dinners disappointing - too much pre cooking and reheating.

PowerTulle · 24/09/2023 13:59

Does the brown sauce touch the gravy?
What happens if it gets in with the gravy and mixes???

Oh God.

Are you in forensics by any chance 😁

CurlewKate · 24/09/2023 14:00

Apparently a roast dinner at Tom Kitchen's posh pub is £145....

jackstini · 24/09/2023 13:55

@Fallenangelofthenorth - where was that?!

I think it's The Kings Head in Horbury. It's a bit too far for me as I'd want a pint or two with it, and then need taxis each way which would cancel out any savings...

Janieforever · 24/09/2023 14:04

I’m no under eater, but that’s a large portion op. I think it’s unreasonable to want even more. But fair enough if you do, we all eat different amounts, but I think a carvery would be better, as otherwise plated portions will be that size or smaller in general.

EachandEveryone · 24/09/2023 13:14

Oh god is it a northern thing I always have abit of brown sauce on the side for my potatoes. Not so much in public. The gravy was £1.50 for extra.

Northerner here and I have never heard of such thing - talk about sabotaging a meal

Bustmybuffer · 24/09/2023 14:07

I'd be pretty gutted if I went out for a roast and this was it! It looks very bland and uninspiring. I'd resent paying anything for it tbh but would expect it to be about £15 - more around London probably.

Lastchancechica · 24/09/2023 14:08

£19 here

DanielsDancingMonkey · 24/09/2023 14:10

It’s a good portion of meat, and a nice Yorkie, but I like a better range of veg than that. I like cooking Sunday roast, though.

It's a large portion of meat, granted. But some of us - myself included - would prefer less meat and a better selection of vegetables, cooked in different ways. And much thicker and more plentiful gravy.

Lorrymum · 24/09/2023 14:12

It isn't Sunday lunch without brown sauce, has to be HP though.

pinkfondu · 24/09/2023 14:16

Gravy wasn't included for that alone it was a rip off

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 24/09/2023 14:30

Gravy looks very thin 😦I would expect it to be included in the price.

And no, brown sauce does not belong on a roast.

I thought she said it was £1.50 for EXTRA gravy so I reckon the gravy on the plate was included. Might be wrong though! However the gravy looks watery as fuck 😂

ssd · 24/09/2023 14:33

It looks shite and the gravy is watery

Ilefttownonsaturday · 24/09/2023 14:36

LeftyLou · 24/09/2023 13:26

That is very expensive for what you get. There is a pub near me that do Sunday lunch with a choice of 3 meats, Yorkshire pudding, roast and mash potato, cauliflower cheese veg and gravy. Also with choice of sauces. All piled high for £12. Very tasty too.

@LeftyLou Cauliflower cheese with a roast dinner 🤮what is the world coming to?

90snotalgia · 24/09/2023 14:38

It looks shut, sorry op. The gravy looks watery.

This is why I rarely eat out. I can make a huge and tasty roast dinner for the whole family for probably less than £10.

FawltyTower · 24/09/2023 14:40

We rarely go anywhere for a roast because I really resent paying high prices for what's usually a poor version of what we'd have at home. Watery gravy, overcooked peas and stingy portions for £20, no thank you.

The only place I actually don't mind going is Toby Carvery - because whilst it's not exactly spectacular, it's usually a good bit better than your £20 pub version and they have decent, thick gravy. It's also cheap as chips and the kids can keep going back for more so I consider it decent value.

fiddlesticksandotherwords · 24/09/2023 14:43

£19? Bit of a rip-off for what you got there.

I don't like going out for Sunday lunch all that much any more (unless it is a help-yourself carvery with a huge variety), because I know what I could create for a heck of a lot less money. It takes all the enjoyment away.

AndrexPuppy · 24/09/2023 14:43

That gravy looks piss poor

canonlydoblue · 24/09/2023 14:44

Where are the potatoes and the rice? I'd be disappointed.

We had a roast beef last night (I know, who has a roast on a Saturday??!!). It was delicious, there were seconds (and thirds if needed) and the whole thing came in at less than ten pounds for 8 of us - thank you friend who buys meat cheaply through work.

gingercat02 · 24/09/2023 14:50

I'm almost always disappointed in Sunday lunch out, unless you spend £££. I'm a decent cook and usually think I can do better.
That looks restaurant rather than pub, I'd say £25 just 6 one course

AndrexPuppy · 24/09/2023 14:51

Rice?

gingercat02 · 24/09/2023 14:52

nebulae · 24/09/2023 13:22

No it is not a Northern thing. It's a you thing 😐

I'm a northerner and I don't know any maniac person that would put brown sauce on a roast dinner.

This OP! Geordie's don't do that
