Is your heating on yet?

I'm trying to hold off until 1st November.

House is currently 17-18 degrees (midlands) so it's comfortable, but each degree decrease from here will be really noticeable...planning jumpers, blankets, hot water bottles and thick socks.

Also, what temperature do you keep your house at?

My electric use is around £80, on average, every month, but gas in the winter months got as high as £400 a month so trying to keep costs down.

Not yet! Thermometer in the living room hasn't gone lower than about 18.8°. I think if it drops to about 16ish then I'll need to pop it on, if only for getting ready in the morning and shower time in the evenings for the kids. I'm hoping to hold off until the kids are off school in October before putting it on to be honest.

Our gas/elec has come down dramatically from last year (almost half the amount) so I hopefully won't have to plan usage out quite so carefully this year.

BellaAndDave · 24/09/2023 15:57

Yes an hour a night since Wednesday and log burner one night. We both grew up in a house without central heating and hate even a slight temperature dip. Jumpers and throws don't warm up the air. Priorities here are decent food and heating above everything else.

We were the same growing up in freezing cold houses. I refuse to wear numerous jumpers indoors and sit under a throw. We’ve had the log burners on a few nights and the central heating from a couple of weeks ago has been kicking in.

QuestionableMouse · 24/09/2023 16:02

Had it on for a few hours here and there. I've not been feeling well and really feeling the cold so it's probably earlier than I usually would. It came on automatically a few days ago, temp is set to 18c!

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 24/09/2023 16:02

Nope the fan is still.on next to my bed and downstairs in the living room
I am getting the blankets out tho ready

afaloren · 24/09/2023 16:03

No but my mum had hers on when I went round today. We’ll light our log burner before we put the heating on and it’s not cold enough for that yet.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 24/09/2023 16:04

Oh yes and the back door and side door is still open

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 24/09/2023 16:10

No but it went to 19 yesterday and ours was set to 18.5 so I turned it up to 19 as any lower would have been cold. We have mainly electricity in this house, shower, cooker etc and the bill for April to September for that alone was £900

sayhellototheworld · 24/09/2023 16:11

Nope, currently it's 21.5C in the living room

BCBird · 24/09/2023 16:12

Had it on yesterday

Buildingthefuture · 24/09/2023 16:13

Nope. I refuse, even though I did manage to fill the oil tank at a good price in the summer. We have lit the wood burner for the last 2 nights though, which was toasty and lovely 🥰

Saverage · 24/09/2023 16:16

Not yet, I'm in London. Have been tempted a couple of times - being cold makes me unproductive and depressed, I just end up sitting still in one place, so I'd rather pay to heat myself up a bit and be happy.

Darkbountyismissing · 24/09/2023 16:18

No..way too warm in the east

TinaTeaspoons · 24/09/2023 16:19

It's 21C outside so no!

Beezknees · 24/09/2023 16:22

I've shut my windows and I'm warm now, had to take my hoodie off. It's warmer today than it was yesterday.

itsgettingweird · 24/09/2023 16:24

Nope.

I'm sat in lounge with windows open and the fan on!

But I have a cold and it seems to have decided to make me sweat profusely 🙄🤔🤣

RainCloudsInTheSky · 25/09/2023 14:45

Back door wide open again today and upstairs windows also open. Do need a jumper on with them open though. Could keep them closed and lose the jumper but I like the fresh air coming through. Will be chillier this evening but fine with an Oodie on. Give it a few weeks it’ll be a different scenario but I’m hoping that the heating can stay off for a while yet.

SweetLathyrus · 25/09/2023 16:02

Hoping to keep it off a little longer (South East). I'm happy at 16 degrees in the day with extra layers, but DH will be complaining, he's only happy at 19+. Overnight we mostly keep it at a frost free 5 for Nest, but actually, I don't think the house (a 1989 build) has ever dropped below 14.

TinaTeaspoons · 26/09/2023 12:23

Currently 21C again. Want some autumn weather. Should be in jumpers by now but still too warm.
