I know song lyrics are done a lot on here, but poor Becky, just a footnote in Tommy's story.

I love that song!

What happened to Becky was the turning point for Tommy, as utterly horrific as it was.

I can’t listen to that song, it’s so upsetting it really haunts me.

Maybe Becky didn't want to be avenged. Maybe she didn't want to be a bit part in Tommy's story

I’ve always found the lines that describe the gang rape of Becky horrible, disturbing and out of place in such a jaunty song.

But she wasn’t just revenged by Tommy, she was also protected from future attempts as I’m sure they wouldn’t have come knocking again after that. I’d rather have someone knock them out/shoot them, than not, otherwise not much risk of them not doing it again.

I totally disagree with your view that Becky was a footnote or bit part in Tommy's life: she was his love, his one; and his love for her made him change his ways, show real courage and break his promise to his father.
She was the most important thing in his life.
