I know song lyrics are done a lot on here, but poor Becky, just a footnote in Tommy's story.

I assumed he punched them and knocked them to the floor - as if he’d shot them, wouldn’t he have gone to jail? Then they left him (and Becky) alone

LunaNorth · 24/09/2023 20:47

But we don’t know he didn’t go to jail…

Beargrumps22 · 24/09/2023 20:55

Short of shooting the sheriff too then I guess he did go to jail
Ruby sounded like that she did not give a damn about her husband probably wishes he had died in the war instead of her having to look after him
as for Lucille she clearly had just had enough of kids and not seeing her husband who was busy farming and trying to provide for his family so she thought she would find happiness in the arms of another man. Unfortunately for her the appearance of her husband in the bar put the bloke she chose to take to the motel right off! dont think even viagra would have helped him that night!

I love Kenny Rogers songs but the women don’t fare well in his music…Ruby, Lucile and Becky.

It was from a film.

he didn’t kill them, he beat them to a pulp.

personally I think there are far more disturbing song lyrics out there:

“girl I’m gonna make you sweat, sweat till you can’t sweat no more, and if you cry out, I’m gonna push it some more.”
or “when your body’s had enough of me and you’re lying flat out on the floor, when you think I’ve loved you all I can I’m gonna love you a little bit more.” <shudder>

I think the song was made into a film, rather than the other way around.

Like Ode to Billy Jo.
