I'm in my usual kitchen spot, just drinking my first cuppa of the day and deciding on breakfast. The window's flung open, as always, so I can hear what's going on outside. Usually there's a pair of wood pigeons pootling about on the fence but they're not about yet.

I've got the washer on for dd2's uniform & there are a few pots to be done but nothing else house-work related today I don't think.

I'm off out with my work bestie for a walk and cuppa to celebrate being able to go back to work after October half term 🥳

Both girls have homework to do - dd2 will more than likely need some help with the maths, although maybe not, she managed last week!.

Later on will be whatever's decided on for tea while I'm out, then some more beading for me, while listening to Food Network.

What about all of you? 🙂

Good morning Lucysmam and others. That sounds like a nice day. I have had two coffees and a slice of toast and in having a cuppa. I've showered and de-toddlerised the house because I'm having both grandsons for an overnight stay 😱😱😱. One, I can manage; two, I'm not so sure. We'll see how it goes. So the day will consist of playing and tantrums (dgs2 and possibly me), regular snacks and outside in the garden if possible as they are outdoorsy wee boys. Hopefully dgs2 will have a nap and hopefully both will sleep through til at least six although I'm not counting on that! Wish me luck

What lovely news @lucysmam 🤗. I always think of you when people start these weekend threads and it isn’t you. Pleased you’re feeling better. Serial name changer here with a new name.

Flu and COVID jab for me in an hour and then I’m going for a swim. Bowl of soup at a cafe I like with my teen in between (she’s also swimming).

Laundry and a bit of tidying up when I get back this afternoon.

I love autumn, my favourite time of year, much less pressure to go out 😂 and be sociable so a quiet night in later on.

Roystonv · 23/09/2023 09:24

Going for cuddles with new grandson and granddaughter both born within the last two weeks. DS had son and DD had daughter 😍

Been up a couple of hours, school shirts about to be hung out, not sure if the will fully dry but the sunshine will bleach them a bit at least.

Need trainers and school shoes for youngster, have to do a bit of visiting, have an additional teenager later, and I want to practice a Clementine cake as a prerun instead of a Christmas cake, I am substituting ground almonds for rice flour, and can't really bake but can follow a recipe so let's see.

lucysmam · 23/09/2023 09:29

@LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand enjoy your sleepover! I'm sure it'll be fine with both. You sound like a lovely grandma 😊

@Kashmirisky I enjoyed tramping through a pile of leaves on the way to my appointment this week & have been making an effort to watch the changes in the massive sycamore at the end of my garden.

@Roystonv how lovely, newborn snuggles are the best. Enjoy your day with the babies 🥰

Thank you Lucysmam. I'm a bit nervous at having both overnight

lucysmam · 23/09/2023 09:30

Clementine cake sounds tasty @frozendaisy , will you come back and tell us how it goes? I'm planning spiced pumpkin muffins tomorrow I think with the last of last year's pumpkin 😋

Morning all. I love this Saturday check in!
I've taken dd2 to school for 8am,after some nagging, to help out at the school open day. DD1 is at work and will stay at a friends later, so we won't see her til tomorrow. She is nearly 18 and out and about all the time, so we don't see her as much and I miss her-but it's as it should be I suppose. DH has taken DS2 to football (an hour and 3/4's away which no one is happy about). DS1 in in bed and I'm
Leaving him there a bit. He started year 7 three weeks ago and suddenly we have a little road man on our hands. Everything is cuz this, fam that and it's a bit grating at times, so I'm hoping he sleeps in a bit more. When he gets up I'm going to drag him to do some errands and then let him choose where we go for lunch to compensate. I've put the wash on and emptied the cat litter and done the dishwasher.
This afternoon I've got a bottomless Prosecco thing for a friends birthday. I've got nothing to wear and no time to get anything so just having a tea and some dippy eggs in the kitchen and trying to figure out some possibilities.
At least the sun is out, though it is chilly-the best sort of weather! Have a lovely day everyone Smile

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 23/09/2023 09:31

Morning, @lucysmam !

Beautiful day here. I’m still on the sofa with my second cup of coffee. Not sure how today’s going to pan out. DP has Covid, so we’ve cancelled our weekly visit from DD’s carers. He won’t be going anywhere, but I’m going to try to get out for a swim at some point. Also need to pick up a few bits from Sainsburys.
DD will probably be happy just pottering around and playing in the garden, getting nice and muddy!

Justonedayatatime11 · 23/09/2023 09:32

Still in bed with the germs DD so kindly shared with me. DD is now with her dad, DH is about to take the car for it's MOT and I'm wondering if I'm feeling well enough to go out to dinner this evening, if I cancel now they'll charge me £50 a head Hmm.
I'm not sure losing £100 for being unwell is really very fair!

Eggsley · 23/09/2023 09:34

Morning all, have missed these threads for the last few weeks as have been up and about early for football stuff.

I'm just finishing a cup of tea before heading up to the football club as DS2 has a match.

Will catch up with everyone's Saturday later Grin

lucysmam · 23/09/2023 09:37

@piscofrisco welcome to teen speak 🤣 I had to ask on here once what "spill the tea" meant! These days I actively join in with the bro, bwuva, fam stuff...soon stops mine if they're not in the mood for it & it amuses me.

Morning. Well I watched England Ladies last night and had a few drinks which took my mind of my impending breast clinic appointment.

But then had to get up at 5 this morning to take DS to swim training that we walked to due to me still possibly being over the limit, oops.

Then after that we walked to his PT session in the pouring rain and now I'm sat dripping wet on a leather sofa in the worlds coldest gym while he works out.

I am very much looking forward to getting home putting some clean PJs on a vegging on the sofa for the majority of the rest of the day.

piscofrisco · 23/09/2023 09:43

@lucysmam This is my third incantation of it, but the girls were not as bad. I said 'allow it fam' to him last night and he didn't actually know what that meant, so he's a way to go before he's fully versed in it. I was raised and lived for a long time in Tottenham, so he's got a way to go before he betters me at it too Grin.

piscofrisco · 23/09/2023 09:44

Sending you a virtual heated throw @Hellocatshome . That's commitment that is....

lucysmam · 23/09/2023 09:50

@Hellocatshome I hope your appointment goes ok, the waiting is the worst part (I was already in hospital when I saw the breast team & was diagnosed incredibly fast, and it was still horrible waiting).

Haha @piscofrisco I have the two girls. Dd2 is not as bad as dd1 here.

OP posts:
Hellocatshome · 23/09/2023 09:55

@piscofrisco omg a heated throw would be amazing right now!

@lucysmam thank you, yes the waiting has been tough just need to get an answer one way or another and go from there.

Kim82 · 23/09/2023 10:06

Good morning all. I’ve been up since 5.25am (thanks noisy neighbours!) so have done all my laundry (last load just put in now), uniforms are hung out, downstairs is clean and the Tesco shop put away. I have the back door flung open in an effort to keep myself feeling awake!

I woke up feeling a bit rough this morning and with a massive coldsore so I’m going to have a quiet day today doing very little. Dh is at work til later, dd19 is off to work at 12, dd9 is still in her pjs on the sofa under a blanket with her iPad (no doubt she’ll play with her friends later today) and dd16 is also under the weather so will probably spend most of the day in bed.

We’re having curry for tea then probably a film then an early night for us all tonight. Easy, relaxed day for us all today I think.

Simonjt · 23/09/2023 10:23

Rugby training today, my husband is away with work so the smalls have to come with me, my son is moaning about going so I have bribed him with the promise of fika afterwards. He gets home at about 2pm, so we’ll go and pick him up from the airport later, I haven’t told the smalls he is coming home today as there had been cancellations in Singapore, so until he is on his final flight I’m keeping it quiet.

He’ll be tired, so we likely won’t do much this afternoon.

Ariela · 23/09/2023 10:29

Baking for the Flower & Produce Show tomorrow: Victoria sponge (done), fruit cake (still in oven), shortbread (ready in fridge to go in oven), bread rolls (rising), quiche (about to start this).
I already have Sloe Gin, Apricot Jam, Gooseberry Jam, Lemon Curd (addictive, must make more for next week), and lemon marmalade, rhubarb and date chutney ready made in advance.
Got another one next week and have some spiced banana rum for that which is divine. Not sure it'll last that long.

lucysmam · 23/09/2023 10:42

@Simonjt are the children feeling better now? I had to google fika, it sounds like a nice way to spend some time 😊

@Ariela you've been busy! All of it sounds devine 😋 Is lemon curd easy to make?

OP posts:
AllotmentTime · 23/09/2023 10:45

Wow @Ariela thats productive!!!!

DH and I are having a day of major decluttering and cleaning. The house is getting us both down. I am desperate for an extension but it won't happen before 2025, so in the meantime we are constantly trying to make our slightly weird spaces work better. DH is currently taking both DC swimming and when he comes back I have furniture rearrangement suggestions for him 😁

At some point we need to have a sit down chat with DS (7) who has had some tears and worries this week. Hopefully we can fix things in his little world.

I have all the ingredients for rocky road so will suggest that to the DC later. This evening will be paella and Strictly.

freespirit333 · 23/09/2023 10:47

Love these posts. I’m currently unwell with the stomach bug Covid strain so a bit of a shitty weekend ahead! I’m slightly better than earlier in the week though.

So I’m currently sat in my dressing gown, DH has been brilliant at holding the fort, older DC is at his sports club and youngest has been to his and is watching his favourite Julia Donaldson’s on TV. DH will take them both out a bit later than a chilled afternoon at home. DS1 has homework that I’ll battle him to get done before screens!

ClarkWGreaseball · 23/09/2023 10:51

I'm thinking about going into the city centre as have something to return to John Lewis and keep putting it off.

I'll probably treat myself to a Joe & The Juice avocado sandwich if I do go and then possibly get my nails done this afternoon.

Oh and washing! 4 loads of washing to do as youngest has returned from a camping trip

ElleBelleLou · 23/09/2023 11:11

Morning everyone! I'm at work currently - been here since 8am though I was woken up at 2:30am which is a pain! Had a bath and a slow morning though now it's like time has stood still.

I have an engagement do this evening so I'm just muddling through work and thinking about when I can get ready. I'd rather be in bed!
