Sophie Turner files child abduction case against Joe Jonas

It is being reported this morning that Sophie Turner is suing Joe Jonas, demanding that the children be returned to the U.K. (where they had been residing).

It had been agreed the children could spend time with their father in New York, and he is refusing to give their passports to her.

How awful for the children. People often seem to forget when they get divorced that their children aren’t pawns in a game.

"He’s been very sneaky and underhand."

So what happens now, legally?

"He’s been very sneaky and underhand."

So what happens now, legally?

His legal team filed for divorce in Florida on Sept 5th and as part of that was a request that the judge signed off on that the kids stay in the USA and are not relocated until a temporary order of custody can be put in place. That will probably happen within weeks. I am sure their legal teams are hashing it out now.

Her legal team filed that Florida isn't the right jurisdiction as she is arguing their habitual residence is in England and so it is the English courts that should decide the custody and that she should be able to take the kids back with her and have the courts in England work through this.

His legal team will have to respond to that suit that was filed and argue why the case should be heard in the USA (Florida) rather than England and why habitual residence should be the USA at this time.

Eventually either a temporary order of custody will be put in place here and then she can leave with the kids (his filing will be heard first) or a court will agree with her that the case should be heard in England and not Florida and she will be allowed to leave with the kids (her filing will be heard first). We don't know what will come through first - his filing or her filing. Or they may work it out out of court completely.

What about newspapers. You can't hide those from kids when they are older🙄

Joe apparently realised a statement after hers saying he did not give the passports because it's something to do with the law in Florida where he filed for divorce. Also the children are primarly seen as American citizens given that's they where born and have spent most of their lives. Its very sad and getting unfriendly really fast.

The court documents that Sophie files have a list of dates on them. It states where the girls have resided in the past couple of years. Although they had a house in Miami they spent a lot of time travelling, often in the US bit also in other countries including the UK. The documents say that the couple rented a property in the UK in December 2022 so they could spend Christmas there. While there, she says they made the decision to move permanently to the UK. They sold their Florida house and took out a lease on the same rental property and moved into it in April 2023. She has submitted evidence that the girls are registered for medical and dental care in the UK. The girls are both registered at nursery/pre-school settings in the UK. Since April, they also found and had an offer accepted on a property to buy, although that has not yet completed. Sophie was filming a TV series for some months. Her work schedule in August was busy so it was decided that the girls would travel to America with Joe during August while he toured as he would have free time during the day to spend with them.

At some point in August they seem to have had a terrible row. Sophie's side says Joe did not tell her he was filing for divorce and she found out about it through the media.

Who knows what actually happened. Maybe Joe has decided he doesn't want to move permanently to the UK after all. It seems like the move has already taken place but the girls may not have been there long enough for it to be considered their habitual residence. Either way, a terrible mess.

It did look like she had been blindsided as normally couple announce their “conscious uncoupling” together.

He may have taken legal advice to file for divorce asap while he had the kids in the US to try to avoid having the case heard in the U.K. or her establishing the kids residence in the U.K.

Looks like Sophie is doing well in proving her case, she at least has documentation not just TMZ rumours.
