It is being reported this morning that Sophie Turner is suing Joe Jonas, demanding that the children be returned to the U.K. (where they had been residing). It had been agreed the children could spend time with their father in New York, and he is refusing to give their passports to her. How awful for the children. People often seem to forget when they get divorced that their children aren’t pawns in a game.

It is kind if funny to think he probably had a whole $$$ PR team advise him on how to gain the upper hand reputation-wise with the public. And it turned out a big fat fail in terms of how the public perceived it.

She had 2 kids in 2.5 years - I doubt many make major films or projects back to back while having kids. She has done a few smaller projects. What is wrong with some mat leave?

There is no evidence he didn't allow her to work or that she has been at home alone slaving away while he is out touring.

This whole story is actually a non-issue. They can get dual citizenship for the children and travel on whichever passport they want.

It's nothing to do with their citizenship. I believe they are already dual citizens.

It's about where they reside.

Joe has been using the media to get at Sophie. He is definitely trying to manipulate the public to be on his side. He seems to be the only one playing games.

I know it isn't just mums, but the parents mentioned in this thread in a similar situation were Sophie Turner and Mel B. Who are mums, so that's why I said 'mums'.

An interesting 'dad' story is the husband of actress Kelly Rutherford. They were living in the US with their children but after divorce he lost his rights to live in America and so the judge gave the children to him! As Rutherford was considered able to travel back and forth to Germany.

That one I found really strange, but we have no idea what goes on behind the scenes and what other factors may have influenced that decision.

Afair a judge originally ruled in her favour but then 2 judges decided they didn’t have jurisdiction so the case was heard in Monaco - which simply protected its own citizen.

Very sad for the children.

Apparently they agreed to relocate to the UK, put their house in the US on the market, rented a place in the UK, put an offer on another, made plans to move in, put their oldest in nursery. Jonas as only supposed to take them to the US briefly and return to the UK, when he took the children she had no idea he they were separating let alone him filing for divorce. As far as she was aware they were all going to be living in the uk permanently. He’s been very sneaky and underhand.

Apparently the pictures of her partying are all from an end of filming wrap party. A very normal part of making movies.

I don’t think a single, end of a gruelling film schedule party is ‘Partying all the time’.

bit like most jobs having a Xmas party or a leaving do. It’s part of the job almost.

That all came from his PR team, what has changed is that people went, hang on, that’s not what he was saying up till now...

He’s also the one giving statements to the media about wishing it could have been kept private, she’s said nothing at all to the press, neither have her PR team. The information from him in the press has come from him, the information from her is just because legal papers are public.

the kids have very rarely been photographed yet on the day he filed for divorce he staged a pap shot of him and the kids to highlight being such an amazing dad. His camp also made it clear that Joe had had the kids for the last three months - again trying to push the narrative that Sophie was a bad/unfit/neglectful mum. He’s not thick. He knew exactly what impression he was trying to give.

All of their joint videos were very much showing that Sophie was the homebody and wanted to stay in and he was the party animal - so again, using the angle of Sophie is a party girl just didn’t work

honestly I think she’s stuck in the US
now. The us courts are notorious for saying US citizens should stay there.

We have children and we’ve just moved abroad, our children are dual citizens of our old country and new country. Due to habitual residence etc our previous country would be considered our childrens habitual residence if one of us did similar.

It’s completely normal, neither of us after a few weeks can claim this is our childs longterm and permanent place of residence, and rightly so. Adults are well aware when they choose to have children that the country those children are brought up in is home, if they don’t want that, hold off until you’ve moved. We both know in a few years this will be considered home, so we’re both well aware if there is ever a divorce we will both be remaining here in our childrens home.

From what I’ve read it’s not as straightforward as that because...

From the court papers Sophie is claiming they moved to England in April (and it looks like the children were in England for a while then) they were buying a house etc.

Joe has filed as Florida being their habitual residence, but... they haven’t had a house there since March and the children haven’t been there and they’ve been on tour and then he’s been staying in New York with them most recently.

But the children have been in various places all this year, so it’s not as straightforward as it would normally be. Judging by Sophie’s court papers they have spent most time in England.

A one year old, fresh out of the womb really has very little concept of where home is. Especially if they’ve been accustomed to travelling all over the world and living in hotels. Home is wherever the parents are.

She won't be stuck in the USA. She is just stuck there very temporarily until a temporary custody order can be put in place. Given she accused him of abduction and has said the UK will be their permanent home, they need to stay in the US until he has some legal documentation that will allow him to bring them back to the US after she takes them to the UK.

There are 'sources' on both sides leaking stories and doing pap walks and doing lots of legal wrangling.

I don't really see any awful behaviour. Most of this is legal process. Their marriage ended abruptly due to whatever incident was seen as irrepairably by one or both sides. This is all very fresh and new. They were out together having dinner last Monday so I am sure they will work through it and find a way to coparent.
