I bet HM’s pr team are doing overtime right now as this really hasn’t aged well 🙈
I remember how she praised him so much in the press at the time but the events described here are pretty grim.

Don’t drag the wonderful Helen Mirren into this cesspit.

Redebs · 18/09/2023 17:30

My husband working in a theatre in the 1970s when Helen Mirren wandered in completely naked. He was extremely embarrassed and uncomfortable.

Don’t drag the wonderful Helen Mirren into this cesspit.

She has rather dragged herself into it, unfortunately. Like BBC/Channel 4 and whoever else he worked for, she fell into the 'Isn't he wonderful- so wild and free-speaking and daring and fun' trap rather that 'He's a pathetic abuser who needs to shut up and go a long way away from women' . Boundaries exist for reasons. People who break them in such extreme ways usually come a cropper. It's all very grubby and horrible but completely unsurprising. I imagine others will find themselves dragged into his grotty, dirty, little scandal. Helen Mirren surely will not want to be with his defenders- Musk, Laurence Foxx, the hideous bloke who was locked up in Romania? She needs to be very careful.

Whataretheodds · 18/09/2023 17:33

Helen Mirren has had to deal with her fair share of pervs. That Parky interview came to my head every time I saw people going on about how wonderful he was.

Sureaseggs44 · 18/09/2023 17:37

? Yep he was disgusting but that’s a kiss between two adults and if Helen was worried about his comments I am 100 % sure she would have spoken up . She does not take prisoners . Not sure all these reports will help if the cases quite rightly go to court

Oddearslongnose · 18/09/2023 17:53

from one publication:
"Apparently bonded so well that when Brand was chastised by the media for he and Jonathan Ross's series of prank phone calls to beloved British actor Andrew Sachs in 2009, Mirren got pissed off.
"It really made me cross because that's what comedians are for and that's what makes them so valuable to us," said Academy Award-winner Mirren. "Sometimes they step over the line but if they didn't do that they wouldn't be of the value that they are. And you know, Russell is the kindest person. He's kind, he's got a great heart and he's incredibly smart. His brain is fast and brilliant and I hate it when they try to pull these people down." 🤢

Poor judgement ain't a crime. Stop trying to pin this on women.

Haffiana · 18/09/2023 18:16

There are people right now who right now think Russell Brand is wonderful and innocent. Even NOW after allegations of rape and abusive sex.

They were cropping up on these threads and claiming that it is all a huge witch hunt because he posts conspiracy theories and that obvs, the 'Establishment' are out to destroy him.

But hey, let's delve into the past and find people who posted once that they thought he was great BEFORE all this came out.

Apart from the time he interviewed Helen Mirren and couldn't stop referring to and leering at her breasts. Sure.

That's hardly "I know he's a sexual deviant but I like him so let him carry on"

CorylusAgain · 18/09/2023 18:43

The fact that abusers can be enigmatic, charming, good company, witty, intelligent and gaslight without conscience is not news.

Indeed. If someone is accused of abuse taking place over a long long period of time, I’d say they’re almost bound to be all of those things on some level. If they weren’t, they’d never get away with it for so long. Look at Saville - creepy as fuck when viewed in retrospect, but everyone fell for it for decades. Even Louis Theroux, who is surely a fairly astute person, was taken in by him (and felt truly awful about it afterwards). Why should Brand be any different?

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 18/09/2023 18:52

I imagine she knows the version of him he wants her to know...

For which he was latterly, rightly, both embarrassed and apologetic. He acknowledged he’d been an absolute arse. He reflected on it in a fairly recent interview that was shown during the lengthy tribute show to him.

Oddearslongnose · 18/09/2023 18:54

I don’t think poor judgement is a crime. But Sachsgate was pretty awful at the time , and I do believe that if you have a platform like HM has enjoyed, you have a responsibility in some ways not to endorse things that are clearly disrespectful towards women, as the whole Sachsgate thing was.

So what? Or are you invoking the 1st rule of misogyny:
Women are responsible for what men do.

Tonkerbea · 18/09/2023 19:00

Being a poor judge of character is really not in the same league as turning a blind eye to a campaign of sexual assaults. I imagine he charmed a lot of people, it's his MO, vile creep that he is.

BIossomtoes · 18/09/2023 19:14

The “Sachsgate” episode was appalling bullying of a much older man. It seems that Brand fooled many women - Emily Maitlis (to whom he was astonishingly rude and patronising) has said today that she was surprised by how charismatic he was.

MistyBay · 18/09/2023 19:29

RB used his fast mind and articulation to disarm people. He used the element of surprise to stay one step ahead.

i found his recent YouTube vids interesting. I watched a couple and he is a funny guy. But I never liked him. Because of his misogyny and bragging. Didn’t need to watch much of his stuff back in the day get an idea of what he is like.

Islandsadness · 18/09/2023 19:41

It's not for women to figure out every predator amongst their colleagues, friends and family. She did nothing wrong.

Summerhillsquare · 18/09/2023 18:15

We should be 'pinning' this on all those that supported him.

And its about time some on here realised that it wasn't and isn't just men.

She (and anyone else) doesnt owe anyone anything. Perhaps she didnt agree with your position, perhaps she has changed her mind.

This is nothing to do with her I cant believe theres a thread about her.
