Anyone met a celebrity and they haven’t been how you expected?

I guess from all the RB threads…a lot of people saying that they are appalled but not exactly surprised.

so I wondered - anybody met anyone well known and they were NOT how you expected? For good or bad?

I had a very strange and brief encounter with one of my favourite actresses a couple of years ago and it was not what I expected at all! Made me realise of course we don’t know these people at all. Any other stories?

Many but don’t think any have been how they present in public - good/bad/different

Bearing in mind a celebrity is just a human being and can vary a lot depending on the context and what’s going on with them at the time - for example rude and irritable on one occasion and extremely warm and chatty another

Oh and India Willoughby told me to fuck off 🤣

Colour me shocked!

I wouldn’t say I met him but I walked past Gareth Thomas (the Welsh rugby player) at the beach. He’s always funny and has a good energy on tv but he didn’t pick up after his dog so I have a very low opinion of him Grin he’s much taller / wider than I expected though, absolutely massive.

AmIAutumnalNow · 04/10/2023 00:04

I've met loads but to be fair they all pretty much matched what I though previously

Except for Richard Osman. I thought he'd be lovely

He was a diva

TravellingT · 04/10/2023 00:06

Angela Scanlon, always thought she'd be meek and mild- she was awful, and called a woman a lard-arse behind her back.

Pamela Anderson- thought she'd be a terror but she was a soft sweetheart, genuinely cared about those working with her.

Joanna Lumley is as lovely as she seems, sharp as a tack and witty.

Mary Berry - not nice at all. Met her through work and she was haughty and rude.

That doesn't suprise me, I went right off her when she said she's a better cook than Delia Smith because she's got children and grandchildren (Delia hasn't) a real low blow to have a sly dig at another woman like that......nasty

That's awful.

Delia is delightful (I imagine)

Playingintheshadow · 04/10/2023 00:08

Where the heck do you all meet these slebs??? I've seen Jason Orange, Richard E Grant, Alison Steadman among others but I've never actually MET them??

Slicedwhite · 04/10/2023 00:09

Delia taught me to cook. She'll always be my number one

Wintersgirl · 04/10/2023 00:09

While Berry acknowledged that Delia is a great cook, she also hinted that her children have given her an edge. "I always feel that Delia, hasn't had the advantage of having children like I have because you don't half get the truth," she added.

Bitch....

Slicedwhite · 04/10/2023 00:10

I've met Joanna too. She tapped me on the shoulder in a loo in the park lane hotel and said "sweetie, you've got loo roll stick to your heel"

I'm also a human being but never ever rude and irritable other than with those closest to me who understand and will let it slide

Sir Alex Ferguson. A friend of his (and a mutual friend of our family) arranged a meet with him for our daughter. He is without doubt (celeb or not) the nicest, kindest most humble man ever. He chatted to us for ages, shared a glass of red with my hubby and asked my little girl so many questions whilst telling us his tales of his time in Glashow. My little girl wrote him a letter to say thank you for his time and he wrote a 2 page handwritten letter back with some beautiful life advice about living your life with enthusiasm and determination. A true gentleman ❤️

I'm a Liverpool red and I love this

Slicedwhite · 04/10/2023 00:15

Woody Allen (director) - answered the door to his massive house in belgravia in a dressing gown. Enough said

Is that bad? I'd do that. I do do that even though I have a small house in Merseyside

Met James Corden several times and he was genuinely one of the funniest warmest people I have ever met.

Ok you must be James Corden because no one has even said this of him

TheLizardQueen · 04/10/2023 00:27

Richard Ashcroft - met him in a pub in NYC with his wife. I was starstruck but he was lovely. Paul Weller, very friendly and down to earth. Liam Gallagher not so much, arrogant prick (expected tbh)

Tonight1 · 04/10/2023 00:33

Stephen Fry - he was miles more nervous and underconfident than I would have thought

Greengrassohla · 04/10/2023 00:33

You know mumsnet has changed when a thread mentioning Terry Wogan has been running for ten hours before someone posts this photo Sad
