Lucy Letby appeal

Sorry if not allowed to discuss here but just seem that this vile creature plans to appeal against her original sentence as per yesterday’s news. Her defence team is leading this potential appeal.

WTAF?!

They haven’t reached a verdict on is it 6 or 7 poor other little babies who died and she’s suspected, I thought?

So sad for the poor parents and babies still.

There was just no direct evidence. They think it was air embolisms without proof. Letby reported beforehand that breathing machines were faulty. There’s a question whether the insulin was in fact synthetic. The unit had sewage coming up the drains. And her defence was rubbish

On the panorama, program the consultant explained about the peptide c which could only have come from synthetic insulin so why do.you think it wasn't synthetic?

I’m just saying from what I’ve read on social media that there is a medical scientist saying it could have been natural insulin.

there were few autopsies carried out so there is no proof of air embolism.

when letby started to get complaints she made her own complaints. One of these is that a breathing machine was leaking oxygen

I think there had to be solid not circumstantial evidence in a case this serious

her defence called in no medical experts

WhiteFire · 17/09/2023 13:19

her defence called in no medical experts

And why do you think that was?

Ben Myers KC is a top defence barrister, on a par with Nick Johnson KC, do you really think he just couldn't be bothered to look?

Annaishere · 17/09/2023 13:24

@WhiteFire

I believe there was one expert but as his paper on air embolism hadn’t yet been published and peer reviewed he wasn’t able to give evidence

The air embolisms were seen on X rays. The insulin was proved definitively to be synthetic as there were no accompanying high levels of C peptides which would be present with natural insulin. No baby died of infection which would have been the case if caused by sewage leakage - even the plumber who was the sole defence expert witness was mystified as to why he was called.

BIossomtoes · 17/09/2023 13:27

And her defence was rubbish because there isn’t one.

Annaishere · 17/09/2023 13:28

Well let’s see. I’m really interested to see what happens with this appeal. Not saying she isn’t guilty I am just not sure at all

Annaishere · 17/09/2023 13:29

I think this there was gas near the spine in one x ray. From what I gather it’s disputed that the insulin was synthetic

Who’s disputing it? Because all the experts and the neonatal consultants are unanimous.

People say all.kinds of shite on social media and can claim to.be anything
I.could claim im.astronaut if I wanted
It doesn't mean they are what they say they are .

Spidey66 · 17/09/2023 13:31

Everyone has the right to appeal, and this needs to stay. It’s one of the cornerstones of British justice. Not just for those who “deserve “ it.

The medical scientist on social media apparently.
Says it all.really .

Alexandra2001 · 17/09/2023 13:35

@x2boys People at the time, would have said Andrew Malkinson had no right of appeal and they won that argument
..... he didn't get one and an innocent man spent 17 years in prison.

Letby, should be allowed a chance to appeal, maybe she will be denied one....... but Justice must seen to be done.

anniegun · 17/09/2023 13:35

thedancingbear · 16/09/2023 07:49

I agree. Monsters like Letby shouldn’t be allowed appeals.

I think they should’ve chucked away the key as soon as they found out she did it. This would have saved the cost of the first trial too.

the lawyers who defended her should be struck off. How could they?

This is the most deranged comment on this thread. Why bother with trials , lets just jail anyone we think might be a wrong'un

Apart from that there is no cctv no witness. It can’t be proven. There is the possibility she is innocent and she’s locked up for life

Most murder s don't have cctv proof of their crimes
Peter Sutcliffe didn't have cctv evidence but nobody disputed he was guilty

I have never said she shouldn't be allowed to.try to.appeal.,I would try to.sppeal.in her circumstances she has nothing to lose.
Im.just questioning why some many posters believe she can't be guilty despite overwhelming evidence

lifeturnsonadime · 17/09/2023 13:55

I don't think any one is saying that she should have the right to ask for permission to appeal, of course she should, and she has done.

I AM saying that I am not sure on what basis an appeal will be granted.

Which is an entirely different point.

She had ample opportunity during the 10 months of her trial to put a defence forward which would convince the jury that she was innocent and she declined to do so, even armed with one of the best defence counsels in the country.

She may have been able to amass new evidence but there has to be good reason that such evidence was not available at the time of the trial, of course whilst this is possible it is difficult to see what fresh evidence has come to light now which wasn't available during the lengthy investigation and trial.

itsgettingweird · 17/09/2023 14:02

Annaishere · 17/09/2023 12:59

The prosecution case was weak. I think she may be innocent

Have you followed any of the trial?

It wasn't weak. It was strong. That's why she was found guilty.

Defence was weak. A) because they couldn't find any experts to argue against prosecution (which says a lot!) and b) because LL lied so much on the stand about simple things, was proven to be lying and then apparently didn't recall any incidents put to her she was involved in but can recall other facts that blame others perfectly.

I highly doubt she's innocent.

But if she is why lie and deny knowledge of babies, go in and change paperwork off shift and take home vital evidence and store it?

TDB has clarified it was satire.

What it has shown throughout this thread though, is that many believed that someone could actually hold this opinion.

Agree.

I believe she's guilty.

I don't believe she'll be granted leave to appeal.

I believe she has every right to appeal and should.

I'll be astounded (and annoyed at wasted tax payers money) if after 3 years of investigations and a 10 month trial new evidence has come to light in the past 4 weeks.

Boomboom22 · 17/09/2023 14:11

People are so odd. Calling her it. Acting like you know her. Praying for her to be attacked in prison. Look at yourselves. Wtf?
Human rights apply to everyone even evil serial killers.

lifeturnsonadime · 17/09/2023 14:13

Just for clarity I do think that she should have the right to ask permission to appeal, there is an obvious typo in my post, apologies.

Astounded or raging, at having your nose put out, all 3 likely.
