If it's all part of a media experiment and RB is complicit in it then he'd need to very sure there aren't any skeletons in the closet that are going to come out if people come forward thinking it's a real investigation. Otherwise it turns into the story it's parodying. I can't see it, but it's been suggested a number of times here! I'll come back and eat my words after 3 if so 😆

301963Laurie · 16/09/2023 10:03

If it is accusation about RB it would be a criminal investigation and would prejudice a trial ! Think it’s a political or Royal story TBH !

monsteramunch · 16/09/2023 10:06

A deep fake experiment would never be RB as there have been rumours about his conduct for well over a decade in the industry. Nobody with existing skeletons, including those that if true would meet the threshold of criminal offences, would volunteer to potentially shine a light on them.

Maatandosiris · 16/09/2023 10:07

I’m starting to think with the Times and Channel 4 rather than The Sun and ITV being involved it might be something more in line with how the media is being used to shape the publics perspective on people/trial by media. It would certainly fit in with Brands position.

or, alternatively, the very reason they are involved.

monsteramunch · 16/09/2023 10:09

@Maatandosiris

What benefit would there be to RB to shine a light on rumours of sexual assault that have been well known in the entertainment industry for over a decade (or almost a couple of decades) and in the past included some comedians refusing to appear on the same billings as him?

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 16/09/2023 10:11

Many - if not most - of the names on these 2 threads, came out of the Channel 4 comedy stable (or production companies supported by C4's patronage). Channel 4 has spent the last 25 years churning out some of the most dumbed down, puerile, "look at my genitalia" and "let me trample all social norms" TV imaginable. If they are going to point the finger about how predatory men can become beloved household names, propped up by the industry and broadcasting institutions, I hope they point that finger inwards.

Kayte198999 · 16/09/2023 10:13

I know it's the Mirror but this was posted recently. I remember Katherine Ryan saying everyone in the industry knows this person is a predator but she never named them. Who has she worked with and could Dispatches also be about him? Surely not DO'B 😫

That would fit with the last minute editing, so they can include some of the reactions to the upcoming show feeding into it. Not sure if it could be classed as 'biggest news story of the year' considering most people wouldn't be surprised.

But it's a bit rich in hypocrisy for a media outlet to be shaming other media outlets for their biased reporting. Channel 4 probably has a history of clangers over the years.

C4 who brought us Jordan Grey playing the piano with his penis and singing about how he was better than women?

Maybe he feels he’s been tried by media and wants to shine a light on how easily public opinion is manipulated even if there is no real evidence.

Occam's Razor. Please the simplest answer is the most believable.

RB posted the video as it's better to post your side of the story first, take control of the narrative.

It seems like this is surrounded in mystery and done on a Saturday at last minute to prevent lawyers from getting an injunction (as it's a weekend and courts aren't open) and it doesn't give anyone any time to refute the allegations.

You can get an emergency injunction on a weekend, trust me on this.

Saturdays are mostly emergency hearings in most courts! Sometimes Sundays too at my local magistrates. How else do you think a wayward parent is prevented from abducting/moving/refusing to give child back to other parent or stalkers are dealt with if it happens at the weekend?!

slobro · 16/09/2023 10:29

I do think though that the way the timing has been announced is odd, ie advanced notice the story will be released at 3pm. If it WAS a ploy to whip up a social media frenzy that's how it would be done.

So pleased to see I'm not alone in leading such a boring life.

For this to be a breaking news C4 Dispatches, I'm sorry to have to say it will "need" to be something much darker than "just" some comedians slept with some girls.
I know it's horrible to think that that "isn't bad enough", but honestly off the back of Saville, #MeToo, Prince bloody Andrew etc, this has become so commonplace the public are (IMO) desensitised to older media men sleeping with girls.

As long as the comedians and the girls they slept with were all consenting adults is that bad? I honestly couldn't care less what consenting adults do in their private lives, comedians, politicians, royals or anyone really.

RB says he received letters from both media outlets detailing the allegations. So if it is about that it looks like they have been given ample opportunity to refute the allegations.

no one's making a 90 min doc about consensual sex

I wasn't referring to the programme but the post I quoted which said "For this to be a breaking news C4 Dispatches, I'm sorry to have to say it will "need" to be something much darker than "just" some comedians slept with some girls.

I don't get the "bad enough" as I don't see what is bad about consenting adults sleeping together or even having sex before they nod off.

Obviously, which is why the Dispatches and newspaper expose are going to be about allegations of serious wrongdoing and as RB has said in his video, of criminal actively. I don't think anyone has suggested they are going to run a 90 minute special about someone being a serial (consensual) shagger.

monsteramunch · 16/09/2023 10:47

Oops cross posted

XiCi · 16/09/2023 10:49

If the content is really dark then surely KGM wouldn't have advertised the episode with a glib 'somethings up' like he did. That would be very inappropriate

bellac11 · 16/09/2023 10:49

Ive said before, and others have said, if there are criminal allegations they need to be with the police, not trial by telly

And as for famous men, powerful men blah blah blah, this is applicable to bog standard every day people, your next door neighbour, your work colleagues. People sometimes treat other humans unkindly and badly, sometimes that crosses a line and becomes assault and in which case it needs to be dealt with by the police

I will really laugh though if its all a big wind up and Russell Brand is part of it. I bet he cant believe his luck to be described as a comedy A lister - he isnt even a comedian and the alphabet runs out before it gets to where on the list he is.
