Comedians being sexist, racist, homophobic, taking drugs and using prostitutes.

Deary me, who'd have thought it?

Stravaig · 16/09/2023 00:03

Oh, FFS. If it is the culmination of three years joint work, by two renowned investigative teams; if it merits a 90 minute special programme plus lead in the Sunday papers; if it is all hands, no leave; then it is going to be something substantial, something significant, something which affects us all. Not yet another vapid celebrity sleaze fest, which the tabloids cover day in, day out anyway. Else the last vestiges of supposed journalism in this country truly are extinct.

Blueeyedmale · 16/09/2023 00:04

I've seen RB mentioned quite a bit but he is not a major celeb anymore so it would have to be something serious such as sexual assults/underage girls

I met him many years ago at a rapt convention in London when I was a support worker,I respect him for the donations and support he's provided to those helping those with addiction issues, but not for some of his other behaviour's

Well let's hope so, and that it's not just about comedians being racist etc.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 16/09/2023 00:05

The weird thing is that most of those named on this thread (with the exception of Hartley Hare) made their names on Channel 4 as much as they did on the Beeb, if not more/first. So I hope C4 will be looking inwardly too.

Mothership4two · 16/09/2023 00:06

I saw RB live too and he's the only stand up I have ever seen not take his break during the intermission, but sit and chat to the audience. He seemed friendly and tolerant. He must be a workaholic and was full of beans.

But wouldn't have thought he would be part of the biggest story of the year!

Coralie1 · 16/09/2023 00:07

I always felt like the Sachsgate scandal was a big overreaction.

I don't. It was utterly cruel.

From the Russell brand video though it certainly involves him, so I think the theme of the documentary is established

(No idea why he made that video, very ill advised!)

It was not an overreaction. It was appalling puerile behaviour which caused a huge amount of distress to Andrew Sachs and his family

He did the video so that everyone can sleep easy knowing that the Dispatches programme is about the sexual activities of comedians.

It was awful. I'd been a big fan of JR before it, and can't watch him now. A horrible thing to do.

Coralie1 · 16/09/2023 00:12

@ScottishIceCream I stopped watching JR after that too. Found it genuinely upsetting.

Boomboom22 · 16/09/2023 00:13

Maybe jr is 4?

Hocuspocusnonsense · 16/09/2023 00:13

Daily Mail running with Breaking News it’s Russell Brand!

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 16/09/2023 00:16

So what links JR to ML? A certain comedy duo who liked Shooting Stars. I really, really will be heartbroken if those 2 are involved in whatever this is.

HedgehogB · 16/09/2023 00:17

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/09/2023 21:49

The full puppet cast of Pipkins having a drug fuelled orgy, while Spit the Dog makes a dirty protest, and Orville the Duck loses his innocence to Hartley Hare.

Ha ha! Plus, your user name wins

justasking111 · 16/09/2023 00:30

ML was charged in 2018 with common assault and false imprisonment. The charges were dropped. I wonder if that's something that's going to Pop up

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 16/09/2023 00:32

@HedgehogB Cheers. There better be an awards ceremony 😜

MsLavender · 16/09/2023 00:32

David Jason is trending now on X/Twitter, I know people have said rumours have circulated about him for years (I've never seen anything specific) but that to me would still be shocking and would be bigger news IMO than RB

Mothership4two · 16/09/2023 00:34

These news articles will be drumming up lots of publicity for the Dispatches Special

NeedToThinkOfOne · 16/09/2023 00:35

Meh, like a pp on previous thread said, I think something isn’t right with all this. Channel 4 are always the first to try new things or surprise us. Could this be a C4 stunt led by Dispatches. Something connected to the dark art of social media, perhaps? What is RB denying exactly? Tbh, I was suspicious this might be a stunt after KG-M removed a tweet…

Albioncreed · 16/09/2023 00:36

I’m not being funny… but why is it “breaking news”… everyone and their auntie knows that Russell brand is rumoured to be a predator. And he’s not exactly A list..: he’s a C list celeb from the 2000s…

I don't think that will come out until he's long dead. I remember when they were investigating a children's home scandal there was a block of flats and parties in London. Men from all walks of life would attend them (you'll have to join the dots here) I guess it's our Epstein type scandal.

NeedToThinkOfOne · 16/09/2023 00:40

Yet here you are naming and discussing others. It was like this when HE story broke, lots of people being named without any proof and total disregard for anyone’s families. We’re seeing a repeat of that- without any proof of what allegations are and how anyone is involved, if at all?
