Mine are Turn To Stone, Oh Well (part one) and Over You.

Not easy to pick just one, given their respective considerable back catalogues.

@Sarvanga38 we are almost twins, it was a close call for me between everywhere and go your own way

Last Train to London
Rhiannon
Dance Away (or was that just Bryan Ferry?)

Roxy Music recorded two versions of Angel Eyes. One for the Manifesto album and a single version. Equally good but quite distinct.

Most definitely prefer the single version of Angel Eyes

they are very different 😬

TheTecknician · 15/09/2023 22:45

Dance Away was Roxy Music, the lead single from Manifesto.

I am by far a bigger ELO and Fleetwood Mac fan than a Roxy Music one, but these lyrics are sublime …

Yesterday, well it seemed so cool
When I walked you home, kissed goodnight
I said "it's love" you said "all right"
It's funny how I could never cry
Until tonight and you pass by
Hand in hand with another guy
You're dressed to kill and guess who's dying?

Some of my favourite lyrics ever “dressed to kill and guess who’s dying” fantastic!

NoSaladThanks · 15/09/2023 23:17

Telephone Line...ELO
Diane.... Fleetwood Mac
Over You ...Roxy Music

On a side note, I saw ELO in concert back in the eighties, they were fantastic.

MammaTo · 15/09/2023 23:17

Does anyone else like the ELO song “diary of Horace whimp”. Brings back amazing memories but no one has ever heard it 😂

The Icehouse singer - Ivor Somebody - does rather Ferryish vocals on that song. David Sylvian used to do likewise in Japan.

Icehouse's singer, Iva Davies, only really had Ferry-style singing on "Hey Little Girl" but I've never heard it on any other of his songs.

I've never thought David Sylvian sounded like Ferry at all.

Yes, it's a great song. Jeff Lynne has an amazing back catalogue.

JimnJoyce · 15/09/2023 23:21

@MammaTo love Horace Wimp. It brings back memories of a family holiday when I was about 15

Getdowngetdown · 15/09/2023 23:24

For those of you loving the chain, check out the punk cellist on you tube - the best cover I have ever seen!

FayCarew · 15/09/2023 23:25

@MammaTo , people in their 50s and 60s will know it.

I like Horace Wimp @MammaTo . I listened to it a lot when I was 15 as it struck a chord - it reminds me of my school work experience fortnight 😃
