Mine are Turn To Stone, Oh Well (part one) and Over You.

Not easy to pick just one, given their respective considerable back catalogues.

Telephone line
crystal
in every dream home a heartache

Mochudubh · 15/09/2023 21:48

Landslide. My. DM had been rushed into hospital a couple of hundred miles away and I got the train to see her because it was very snowy and I didn't want to drive. As I passed snow covered hills the lyric "I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills" kept popping into my head.

My DM died a few months later and Landslide always makes me think of her.

SwedishEdith · 15/09/2023 21:50

Telephone Line or Sweet Talking Woman
Go Your Own Way (not original but is their best song)
This is Tomorrow Calling or Same Old Scene

SoIinvictus · 15/09/2023 21:51

Hold on Tight

FM1- Sara FM2- Mystified

More Than This.

SwedishEdith · 15/09/2023 21:52

toadasoda · 15/09/2023 21:53

ELO - Livin Thing. (Hate Mr Bluesky!)
FM - The Chain
RM - More than this (love love this song)

FayCarew · 15/09/2023 21:56

Mr Blue Sky
Don't stop thinking about tomorrow
Jealous Guy (BF not RM)

I thought that ELO was just one person but wiki says not

Eyesopenwideawake · 15/09/2023 21:58

Roll Over Beethoven
Tusk
Love is the Drug

And from 10cc I'm Mandy, Fly Me

DahliaMacNamara · 15/09/2023 22:01

Wild West Hero
Sara
Dance Away.
Not much of a Roxy Music fan, so I don't really listen to them much, but I think that's their best.

ageingdisgracefully · 15/09/2023 22:02

ELO: Mr Blue Sky. So uplifting.
RM: Street Life. The early songs were better, IMHO.
FM: Rhiannon.
10cc: tricky but I think Wall Street Shuffle. Such a clever band.

30not13 · 15/09/2023 22:07

Huge elo fan here

Secret messages
Shine a little love
Xanadu (cheating a little!)

FayCarew · 15/09/2023 22:09

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g , Top notch 1970s chart toppers has to include Stayin' Alive

HowardKirksConscience · 15/09/2023 22:12

well today it’s:

Telephone Line
Gold Dust Woman
Avalon

HowardKirksConscience · 15/09/2023 22:13

10cc has to be The Things We Do For Love!

975zyx · 15/09/2023 22:13

I can only speak as to Roxy Music, In Every Dream Home a Heartache

TheTecknician · 15/09/2023 22:16

Xanadu isn't cheating. It is ELO with a guest vocal by Olivia Newton John, bless her.

I don't remember mentioning 10CC or the Bee Gees! Good bands though.

Evil woman
The chain
Love is the drug

HRTQueen · 15/09/2023 22:18

Fleetwood Mac - Dragonfly it’s so beautiful and dreamy next favourite is Need Your Love So Bad. I also love Keep Going On it’s from the album Mystery To Me I love the album. Rumours is of course brilliant after Rumours a art form Big Love I can’t think of a song of theirs I like. Tusk and Everywhere are so far removed from how Fleetwood Mac originally sounded

ELO - Sweet Talkin Woman. Not particularly a fan of them but really like this song

Roxy Music - not a fan at all but love Angel Eyes

10cc - I’m Mandy Fly Me (as pp mentioned them) love this song and Art for Art’s Sake

EL8888 · 15/09/2023 22:22

Telephone Line
The Chain
If there is something (can’t believe no one has mentioned this!)

I nearly got called Rhiannon as my mum was a big Fleetwood Mac fan. Luckily my dad point blank refused this name

TheTecknician · 15/09/2023 22:27

Roxy Music recorded two versions of Angel Eyes. One for the Manifesto album and a single version. Equally good but quite distinct.

Sarvanga38 · 15/09/2023 22:35

So tough … I’ll go these three, might give different answers tomorrow!

Sweet Talkin’ Woman
Go Your Own Way
Dance Away

Phos · 15/09/2023 22:36

Sweet Talkin Woman
Everywhere
Dance Away

CrunchyCarrot · 15/09/2023 22:36

Very hard to choose a Fleetwood Mac song because I love so many, but here are my top picks:

Evil Woman
Never Going Back Again
Love Is The Drug

Sarvanga38 · 15/09/2023 22:37

I am by far a bigger ELO and Fleetwood Mac fan than a Roxy Music one, but these lyrics are sublime …

Yesterday, well it seemed so cool
When I walked you home, kissed goodnight
I said "it's love" you said "all right"
It's funny how I could never cry
Until tonight and you pass by
Hand in hand with another guy
You're dressed to kill and guess who's dying?
