Apparently the biggest news story of the year is going to break over the weekend

It’s all overTwitter, or X as it’s now called. One of the Sunday papers is working on a massive story and all staff weekend leave has been cancelled. Channel 4 is showing an episode of ‘Dispatches’ tomorrow night at 9pm but haven’t said what it’s about and lots of people are putting two and two together and saying it’s in conjunction with the following days papers.

Tattle are floating the very plausable idea it's not celebrity related at all but far more sinister and related to The Hub. That would definitely be something that would take a 90 minute programme.

Comedians being letches? My sis & I (were 16) and other younger members of crew & actress whose Dad was also a comedian at the time, & a very nice bloke) were sexually abused & generally pawed at by a 70s ‘comedian’ in the 80s. Utter bastard, dead now thank fuck. Equity ended up getting involved ffs (“it’s the way I tell ‘em”, bastard).
He was also a raging alcoholic whose whisky bottles were still being found weeks after the panto finished, in toilet cisterns, stage fire equipment cubbies, prop store etc.

And as one night’s tech lead I had to break into the lead dressing room to help a female (over 18) crew member who had been locked in & pinned to the door by another 70s (racist, now Brexit loving, a fav of GB News watchers) comedian after I heard her screaming for help during the interval (she was bringing him a drink from the bar).

JD, if I ever saw him again, would be one of the very few people on this earth I’d knock out on sight.

For some, the power given by being lauded as celebrities has always been used to exploit & abuse others. On the other hand, working with proper A listers, I’ve met some truly lovely folk who I’m still in contact with years later.

I have no idea who JD is, clue?

Not always. Wasn’t there stuff in the media about the lockdown Downing Street parties before police involvement? So sometimes the media have to push the story first?

racist sexist and homophobic comments. Not justifying it by any means, but alot of comedy touches on these elements and it isnt shocking they have footage of comedians making such comments in that "era".

Using drugs? In the late 90's/00's? well, yup, thats pretty much a given isnt it?

Sleeping with prostitutes/cheating on their spouses... See above.

Money laundering? similar vein to tax evasion, and some high profile comedians are pretty infamous for that.

Theres literally nothing surprising at all there...

I don't think sexual misconduct of an individual would be their biggest story of the year. Unless it was someone utterly jawdropping. And I don't think any of the names being bandied round on this thread or on SM really meet that (except Bagpuss)

Interesting thought that if it is about wrongful accusations then the model the media have used to promote the programme and Sunday Times scoop fuels speculation and the naming of names.

Agreed. I think that if it's comedy related, it's comedians, and in an institutional/systematic fashion, not just a collection of ad hoc incidents.

I would suspect not Jimmy Carr if it's related to Katherine Ryan, as she has voluntarily worked with him many times over the years.

Russell Brand on the other hand -the most recent ick that springs to mind was his Bake Off appearance. Presenters laughing along at his sculpting his partner's genitals on TV. Totally grim, but apparently funny and treated as normal.
