Apparently the biggest news story of the year is going to break over the weekend

It’s all overTwitter, or X as it’s now called. One of the Sunday papers is working on a massive story and all staff weekend leave has been cancelled. Channel 4 is showing an episode of ‘Dispatches’ tomorrow night at 9pm but haven’t said what it’s about and lots of people are putting two and two together and saying it’s in conjunction with the following days papers.

I don't think SC would warrant a despatches surely? If so I'm very disappointed in channel 4.

I really really doubt it.

UsernameNotAvailableNow · 15/09/2023 16:42

One of the twitter comments referenced a super injunction coming to an end 🤔

Would SC warrant a 90 minute dispatches for being a creep? Even if true?

LookItsMeAgain · 15/09/2023 16:42

@REP22 - "I do hope it doesn't involve either Dame Judi or Bagpuss."

😂

I heard that Bungle and Zippy were seen hanging around Bagpuss' place a lot back in the day. 😉😉

RamsesTheChub · 15/09/2023 16:43

So Coogan recently starring in the BBC (self-serving/protecting) drama on Savile and becomes next to be outed? I'd say that's far-fetched but the establishment do like to laugh in peoples' faces when it comes to these matters.

We shall see....

I doubt he would unless it involved something establishment related like a political/ Royal coverup.

viviscool · 15/09/2023 16:43

I just don't think despatches would run a 90 min show on a celeb, unless it was Saville level criminality, part of a long web of behaviour, possibly involving other people (other criminals)

MadeForThis · 15/09/2023 16:43

SC doesn't seem big enough alone. Not unless it links to a wider scandal.

90 mins is a lot of tv.

Tlolljs · 15/09/2023 16:45

I can’t think of any celeb that would warrant a 90 mins dispatches programme tbh.
Must be more to it.

Lunde · 15/09/2023 16:45

Farmageddon · 15/09/2023 16:38

I'm far too invested in this now - from the Channel 4 link, it seems like political pervs on the loose. Not surprising but gross nonetheless.

As for William & Kate divorce - not likely, although she was sporting a new haircut recently (distraction technique), and had a bandage on her finger (good excuse for not wearing wedding ring)...hmm, perhaps I need to get out more.

I think you may need to get out more as Kate has 2 fingers taped together on her right hand and is still wearing rings on her left - so not a very clever ploy

Agree, and could they really do a 90 minute investigative news special on a person who has yet to be arrested? Savile was dead when it all came out.

Scruffington · 15/09/2023 16:46

Dedicating 90 mins of TV to this must surely mean someone very high profile. So maybe Prince Andrew. Or someone a bit less high profile but who's carried out many crimes.

Kernackered · 15/09/2023 16:46

StoneWitch · 15/09/2023 16:38

Ahaaaaa!

I get who it is now.

Nice

Thally · 15/09/2023 16:46

SC was a big target in the hacking scandal. Surely it would have come out by now if it's them. Dispatches is a real news/investigation type programme I just can't see it being a celebrity story unless there were cross overs into criminal activity with arrests.

sleepismyhobby · 15/09/2023 16:47

Who is sc give me a clue I've googled these initials and so far I've got sheryl crow 😂

HangingByYourFingernails · 15/09/2023 16:47

If a massively famous comedian (in order to pick someone who it 100% definitely isn't, I'm going to say Dawn French) turned out to be a wrongun, habitually harassing young male runners on the Vicar Of Dibley, then that would justify a Times front page, embargos and humunguous gossip.

But that wouldn't warrant a Dispatches Special.

The Dispatches episode implies something systematic from which wider political implications can be drawn. So in the Dawn French example, if all the runners were sacked by Tiger Aspect Productions and given references written by Richard Curtis saying that they were coke addicts, and a junior writer also subject to harassment mysteriously gets blacklisted from the Edinburgh Fringe and has their venue withdrawn at no notice then that becomes a Dispatches-level story.

ICanBuyMyOwnBooks · 15/09/2023 16:47

It's not going to be Andrew. Maybe the other big US Epstein names that no-one seemed bothered about pursuing?

LakeTiticaca · 15/09/2023 16:47

clarepetal · 15/09/2023 16:24

Agreed.

Nobody is minimising the Libya disaster. There is literally nothing we can do about it except donate to the aid programme.
Life still goes on dontcha know!!

MeinKraft · 15/09/2023 16:48

Seems it won't just be one person:

'Channel 4 have an extended Dispatches Special tomorrow which reportedly involves a ‘mass expose of an obscene amount of high profile comedians’ who have ‘incredibly shocking accusations held against them, including footage that’s been collected over the last 3 years’…'

(SuperTV on Twitter)

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/09/2023 16:48

Maybe something to do with a high profile unresolved criminal case? Jill Dando, Madeline McCann etc?

sleepismyhobby · 15/09/2023 16:49

I know now now took a while for the penny to drop! Been a long week !

Yes, the tabloids had a field day with Coogan back in the day. He definitely 'got around' but to the best of my knowledge there was never any suggestion of inappropriate behaviour.

Also, he's not that big a star these days. I can't see Dispatches devoting a prime time special to him.

MsLavender · 15/09/2023 16:49

I think other posters may be right, maybe SC wouldn't be a huge scandal I don't know. Unless as someone else has said it's about lots of TV stars/comedians and the general culture at the time but again, we kind of know what it was like 20 to 30 years ago so not sure how shocking that would be.

IsleofSkies · 15/09/2023 16:50

Is the OP's username a clue?

Or are they just having some fun with us all?

Motnight · 15/09/2023 16:51

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 15/09/2023 14:07

Really? Almost 3000 people have just been killed in Morocco, and 11000 confirmed - but possibly up to 30000 - dead in Libya following catastrophic events; as well as all sorts of other things happening in the world, and a breakfast TV presenter's alleged naughtiness is the news story of the year?

I despair of people's priorities these days.

And yet you still took time out to prioritise responding to this thread!

TokyoSushi · 15/09/2023 16:51

I'll be disappointed if it's comedians!
