XL bully’s to be banned

Tonightsthenight91 · 15/09/2023 12:11

So what will happen? There are so many breeders of these dogs. I can think of at least 10 breeders near me that I see on Instagram.

what will happen to the ones people already have as pets? And what about pocket bully’s?

@RunningFromInsanity

That’s what I assumed and honestly I think it is best in the long run. These back years breeders appear to have no care for the health and well being if the dogs beyond what profit can be made. It is just sad that they cannot recognise that they are essentially the reason so many puppies will end up being put down.

StarkRealism · 01/11/2023 09:20

The byb will take their £200 kill fee and start on the next breed. This is a sticking plaster and won’t help anything in the long run. Law abiding citizens and innocent dogs are the ones who’ll suffer. It’s a farce.

user701 · 01/11/2023 09:25

It will be years and years before the trickle through effect means these dogs are no longer on our streets.

@Kpo58 I think this is reasonable. I got knocked over by a large Labrador when I was pregnant. Yes, it didn’t kill me and this was never reported but neither was it great. I think people with larger dogs need to have space to exercise them /house them and need to control them properly. Yes, gentler breeds would get sucked in but it would stop the cross breeding to get around the rules. All small dogs may not be less vicious but at least people can fight them off easily.

Manadou · 01/11/2023 11:22

Why would anybody want a dog called a 'bully'? Sounds like asking for trouble.

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 01/11/2023 11:24

like banning legal highs, they will move on to the next breed combination
it’s happened time and time again.
we can’t get a hold on ear cropping, we can’t get a hold on the toad stance breeding.

the way some people breed dogs is utterly abhorrent and the whole thing needs reform

Manadou · 01/11/2023 11:26

My mum told me that all bullies are cowards.

Surely this is just part of life though isn’t it?
You could easily have tripped over a small dog or a small child with a balance bike.
It’s a big difference to dogs attacking

Firstly, I'm not a dog person and would generally steer clear of these dogs. I think it's an issue with bad owners who don't train their dogs, have them off leash in the wrong places, don't exercise them enough etc.
I know someone who acquired one, they work in a vets and the scumbag breeder wanted this pup PTS as it was born with a "defect" so he couldn't sell it. They have raised this puppy from being tiny, trained it and is a fully responsible owner. They didn't intentionally get one but I'm sure would be distraught if the dog had to be PTS.
There is a deeper problem which needs to be addressed around the breeding and selling of animals, not just dogs.

Bad owners and bad breeders.

It is perfectly possible to breed for a desirable temperament and behaviour related traits IF the breeders want to do so.

That is why even the most well-trained husky will not behave the same as a well-trained labrador.
Which is (usually) perfectly fine.

But irresponsible breeders often breed for looks without considering temper. Or intentionally breeding agressive dogs.
Combining that with irresponsible owners (lack of training, potentially even a desire for an agressive dog) is a recipe for disaster.

And certain breeds are much more vulnerable to this issue.

I love large dogs.

But if I trip over a small child or dog, then that is in most cases related to inattention on my part. Something I could have avoided (in most cases).

That is not the same as a large dog knocking me over / entering my personal space and making physical contact with enough force to knock me over. Especially because that is NOT something I could easily avoid.

And it is particularly scary for people with mobility issues and or the elderly, where a simply fall can have extremely serious repercussions.

Getting knocked over is not the same as an attack (I agree). But it is still irresponsible dog ownership in the vast majority of cases with the potential to cause serious injuries and harm.

This is spot on

jadey1991 · 01/11/2023 12:21

I think banning them is ridiculous because its not all owners bring there dogs up aggressive. There are dog owners who use there pets as weapons. there are loads of other breed of dogs that are aggressive too. So are they gonna ban all the dogs that are dangerous.

teenysaladandsniffofarose · 01/11/2023 12:39

I think it's a great idea if they're going to ban other dangerous breads but otherwise it feels a bit pointless? Almost like banning one type of gun in America but keeping the rest legal😂

I get that. Why are the government more focused on banning dogs then knife crime or any crime in particular. Its a joke.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 01/11/2023 14:04

@TrailingFig

I don’t know why you are saying this. I didn’t trip over a Labrador. It bounded up a lane onto my property, placed its paws on my shoulders and knocked me over. Its owners, who couldn’t train it properly, smiling away and vague in apology. Nothing like tripping over a balance bike. This is why large dogs should be under much better control because some (not all) owners are just not responsible and don’t have insight into when they aren’t responsible.

Girlswillbetwirls · 01/11/2023 14:11

IVFNewbie · 18/09/2023 09:57

It's quite simple IMO. In public, all dogs should either be on a lead or wearing a muzzle.

This. The exceptions should be dog parks and that’s it.

megletthesecond · 01/11/2023 14:15

Good. It's not perfect but they're excessively strong dogs who no one can control when they lose it.
I saw a horrible no-neck muscle bloke trying to walk one recently. He had no hope if it went mental.

Lovethatforyouhun · 01/11/2023 14:18

The human trash and mentally weak who buy and breed these dogs would not buy a licence. Who the hell is Anneka S, she is deluded and irrelevant.

Chihuahuas and Jack Russells are worse, blah blah, my Bully sleeps with my new born, yadda yadda. What about war!!! Knives!! Whatabboutery!!!!! Save it.

TravellingT · 01/11/2023 14:24

Good. I think laws should be brought in ensuring all dog/walkable pet owners have to attend training sessions in order to own a pet. The only dogs I've encountered who have reliable recall and manners around humans are farm dogs. Pet owners who let their dogs run loose in parks and public spaces and feebly say "sorry my fur baby jumped at your child" need training.

Spot on.
Never seen one of these with what I'd call a 'Responsible' type of owner.
They are never under control.
They are genetically predisposed to 'lose it' without warning.

''Soft as shite'' til they aren't.

They are bred from Pits- the small 'Toad line' grotesque 'bullies' also have killed babies.

Breeders are creating monstrous mutants.

''Oh he's never done that before'' Suprised face emoji.

The £200 euthanasia 'compensation' will have breeders cashing in- Pit crosses have huge litters £200 per pup 'compensation' is a payday for the Greeders.

Work in a vets and I would say the number one breed that comes in unmicrochipped older than the legal age is the XL bully. Usually acquired off a mate or relative and often have a baby in the pushchair during the consult. And I know this makes me sound judgy and vile, but it doesn’t stop it being true.

StarkRealism · 01/11/2023 14:48

Expert on my dog, yes. Not all dogs.
