Tea shortage?

RoxyMoosic · 13/09/2023 21:45

PG Tips specifically.

I’ve been to 3 Tescos and an Asda. Just while passing. There’s not even been a space of the shelf. No big boxes or small boxes. Nothing at all.

Is there a shortage I’m unaware of or just my local area?Confused

I noticed this today. I'm in the South East. None in Sainsburys. I got the penultimate box in Waitrose.

OnAFrolicOfMyOwn · 03/10/2023 18:30

Funnily enough there was hardly any in Asda at the weekend - I'm in Yorkshire.

FizzWhiz · 04/10/2023 20:58

People are trying to flog them for £10 a box on eBay at the moment!
I did read an article about tea granules being discontinued and selling for ridiculous amounts on eBay. People seem to be chancing it with the teabags too.
Hoping I've got enough to last until things return to normal 🤞🏻

I can’t get pg tips either!

has anyone found anything that tastes comparable?

JayAlfredPrufrock · 21/10/2023 19:21

Dear lord I hope not.

I’m a Twinings Assam girl myself.

RudsyFarmer · 21/10/2023 19:22

That’s why I tried another brand and luckily I’m going to swap. No PGTips.

Sainsburys red label.

Q2C4 · 21/10/2023 22:31

Dorset tea sunshine blend is nice.

Wittow · 21/10/2023 22:55

Yabu to drink pg tips.

Yorkshire tea is far superior.

MaxTaid · 02/11/2023 16:44

Having tried and failed to buy my usual PG Tips Extra strong , I finally called Liptons who own the brand …They confirmed . It’s been discontinued. Seemingly along with the gold version that was okay as a back up , ( that’s unconfirmed but I’ve not been able to get either in any supermarket this month ) …. So off to another brand I go . Not a fan of Yorkshire tea , so hunting alternatives… preferably NOT owned by Lipton .

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 02/11/2023 16:46

Loads in Waitrose Beckenham, sainsburys SE London (not stating exact area!) and Tescos Hackney.

Twinings had some new extra strong English breakfast tea.

Howyoualldoworkme · 02/11/2023 16:48

None in Waitrose for weeks but plenty in our Tesco Express. Try the smaller shops

Gnomegnomegnome · 02/11/2023 16:51

We’ve not been able to get it for ages! Luckily I prefer earl grey or peppermint.

stormyslippers · 02/11/2023 16:52

a tea shortage? Will everyone be panic buying tea and stashing it like the loo roll?

Squirrelsnut · 02/11/2023 16:53

Try English Breakfast extra strong.

Rosiiee · 02/11/2023 16:53

Stop! First I’ve heard of it? Is it just a UK thing and certain brands of black tea?

JustKen · 02/11/2023 17:07

Yy Sainsbury's Red Label is nice, Yorkshire and I found a loose tea called Glengettie which is good but you need a pot and strainer. PGTips and Tetley are pish these days, absolutely no flavour.

dontcallmelen · 02/11/2023 17:19

M&S extra strong tea bags in the blue box are lovely.

Helenahandkart · 02/11/2023 18:08

No PG Tips near me for a couple of weeks. Fortunately I only drink Twinings, but DH is now forcing down horrible Yorkshire Tea.

tuscanpoppy · 02/11/2023 18:26

Good. PG tips is awful.

Wow- I thought my Auntie was the only person in the world to drink tea granules!

MaxTaid · 03/11/2023 01:52

It’s not tea in general it’s specifically PG Tips . Looks like they’ve ditched the pyramid entirely , and potentially all the variants , new product is back to a square bag , and either full fat or decaf is the total choice . I have noted varying stock levels of other brands , but only PG has virtually disappeared. I presume the other brand variation is related as customers try anything and everything else in the absence of long held regular choices .
