9/11 - what happened to the planes?

myyve · 12/09/2023 11:48

Thinking on from that awful day after the anniversary yesterday, one thought has come to mind.

What happened to the planes and those onboard, once they were flown into the twin towers? I know this probably does sound silly and I'm so sorry if it comes across as ignorant, but I truly do not know, and the internet doesn't mention anything, either..

Did they come to a crash landing afterwards? Or did they continue flying? What actually happened to the plane and those poor souls on board?

OP tere are many, many documentaries on 9/11 on YouTube and even Disney plus which gives a minute by minute account of what happened with footage. I watched one with DD recently as she wanted to understated happened.

It was one of the first global events that was beamed around the world in real time. I think for people of a certain age the images and events are burned into our psyche and it's hard to comprehend that for younger people it's something they now learn about in the history books.

TibetanTerrah · 12/09/2023 12:09

Even if you don't remember it happening, surely you're able to search 9/11 on youtube and you'd see the planes didn't just pass through the other side? This can't be real.

Wikipedia will tell you that the human remains found from Flight 93 (the one that crashed in Pennsylvania after the passengers revolted) only weighed 8% of what they 'should' have - the rest was vaporised.

I refuse to believe you're doing 'research' but haven't actually found anything online...

I don't think it's unreasonable to wonder if a fast moving object that crashes into a building might come out the other side, and continue movement in some way.

This happened nearly quarter of a century ago, not last week, ask away OP.

This is exactly what I meant by my question.

Door goodness sake the poster was 2 when it happened!

I wasn't even born when WW2 ended. I'm pretty sure that if I had a question about an event during that war there are internet articles and books that can give me more detailed info than starting a MN thread.

ElleLeopine · 12/09/2023 12:10

myyve · 12/09/2023 11:56

I was 2 when it happened, so no I didn't see the footage. I am actually asking as research for part of a case study I am working on. Not just for the hell of it, or because I want to know the morbid details. I am sorry again for asking. I just couldn't find any further information on this online.

You are researching this for a case study, and the first place you look for information is Mumsnet? Really?

SoIinvictus · 12/09/2023 12:10

Royanne · 12/09/2023 12:05

And your research method is to ask on MN rather than watch one of the thousands of videos on youtube?

How have you reached your 20s without ever seeing any footage?

In fairness people on here have to ask MN if they should open their door to the postman or go to the hospital if their leg drops off so I don't see why the OP is being shouted at.

The Last Plane In The Sky is an excellent book @myyve

TenOhSeven · 12/09/2023 11:53

How could anyone seriously think that a plane would crash into a skyscraper and then just continue flying?

I know. Beggars belief 🙄

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 12/09/2023 12:10

Ditto.

myyve · 12/09/2023 12:11

This isn't the first place I've looked. I have researched as much as I possibly can, and have seen some of the footage and articles. There is little information as to if the planes pass through the other side so I did assume not, however I wanted to check. That is all I meant by this post.

How are people that ‚offended‘ and of such a nervous disposition over something that happened over 20 years ago in another country, where it’s a death toll smaller than some of the stuff that is happening on a daily basis, right now, around the world too.

For goodness sake! Let the OP ask questions!

Bestoptions · 12/09/2023 12:12

I remember at the time it was said apparently there was a 2 year old girl on one of the planes. I was a teenager and pregnant with my first baby (a girl) and it made me so upset, it’s awful so many people died but my mind was stuck on that one little baby I still think about it from time to time 😞

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 12/09/2023 12:13

We're not 'offended and of a nervous disposition,' thanks. Just incredulous that the question is being asked and being asked here when there's a whole internet out there full of information the OP can access.

How did you think a plane filled with jet fuel would crash into a wall made of steel and concrete and miraculously pass through to the other side? 🤦🏼‍♀️

Bestoptions · 12/09/2023 12:14

@myyve you are getting a really hard time I’m sorry . It’s ok to ask questions you’ve worded it sensitively - ignore the nastiness

Sushione · 12/09/2023 12:15

Adding to the above, there's little info online as it's not a question that would need to be asked.

PleaseGiveMeBackMySummer · 12/09/2023 12:15

WTF? @myyve Confused

Why does this place feel like a school playground sometimes?

AllOfThemWitches · 12/09/2023 12:16

Stop apologising for asking a question ffs. Some people on here make a hobby out of belittling strangers on the internet, they are best ignored!

cornflower21 · 12/09/2023 11:56

Honestly educate yourself- read some articles it's not that difficult?🤦

She's trying to educate herself by asking the question.

Your reply and ones like it don't add anything to the conversation.

Plantsarelife · 12/09/2023 12:17

EbiRaisukaree · 12/09/2023 12:04

If you’re genuinely using this as a case study for something academic, then why on god’s green earth are you asking Mumsnet what happened? There is tons of actual evidence available, including footage, and reports from the investigations. Surely those would be the only sources worth using.

Do you usually use random people on social media to do your research?

This.

She CAN ask, and people can answer and WILL answer how they bloody well see fit. You're not the forum police!

My son was a month old when the attacks happened and we watched it all on Channel Four news. It was clear the planes crashed, whether into buildings or the ground. My sister was living in New York at that time, I'd spoken to her a week earlier and she was temping in Tower 2. However, the day the attacks happened she felt ill and rang to say she wouldn't be coming in. We only knew this about a week later as all phone communications were cut on the day.

Such an horrific day and sight. We put the girls favourite video on to watch when collected from school. Obviously caught up with the news when they went to bed later that evening.
