Naked older man on bike

Nakedness · 11/09/2023 09:09

I went cycling yesterdat with DD in an area not far from our house that's usually busy with dog walkers and families cycling, loads of children around.

This older man was riding his bike completely naked, his 'thing' sticking out in full view. Luckily we passed him quickly as he was coming from the opposite direction and my 5 yo DD hasn't noticed as she was concentration on her cycling.

Then an hour later someone on FB posted a pics from around this area of another older naked man cycling in traffic (looks like a different man).

I told DH and he said I should have taken a pic of him and reported him as it's illegal to walk around naked in public. I'm not from this country so forgive my shock, but is this ok in the UK?

He is almost certainly a paedophile. Many men are. You should report him to the police asap.

I didn't take a pic as I was on my scooter/DD on bike and the phone was in the backpack so can I just report him with any evidence? Excuse my ignorance...I've not done anything like this before.

Should I just describe him? I have a pretty accurate picture of him as I spotted him from quite a distance not having a top or trousers on then when he got closer I realised he was completely naked.

I saw something similar to this, a naked man riding a quad bike, on the path that runs around my local primary school at 8.30am during school run time. Witnessed by plenty of parents and children, he was even slowing down to talk to the kids as they went past. I reported it to the police and they said he wasn't doing anything wrong, at all, even being naked and choosing that location and time of day to do it. The 101 operator even seemed quite bemused by the whole thing which I thought was disgusting! Hmm Not normal in my opinion, far far from it. Thankfully not seen him since.

It’s not ‘normal’ but I certainly wouldn’t let it upset me. It’s a penis not an AK47.

As long as he wasn’t doing anything sexual (which I imagine would be tricky whilst also riding a bike!) I can’t see it’s a problem.

You'd think it would be difficult, but near here, some time ago a man was arrested for riding a bike in public whilst masturbating 😬

😂I stand corrected!

BloodyHellKen · 11/09/2023 14:30

IMO anyone who wants to walk around naked in public, exposing themselves in front of children (not on a beach, nudist area, private family home etc) has nonce tendencies and the police need to have a word.

TBH I'm far from a child and I don't want to see some random strangers old chap either 😂

Many men are paedophiles? What?

Some are, but 'many' is a bit of a leap. It's a vanishingly small percentage of people (note, not just men)

placemats · 11/09/2023 14:46

Reckon all mums, grans and women on Mumsnet should just strip off stark naked and take the children to school, go to the local shop, walk the dog, library whatever, oh yes and ride a bike and pointedly say to our husbands, partners that they're off out now, need anything?

I wonder what the reaction would be then? Would the police be okay with it? Would people laugh and shrug it off?

Throwncrumbs · 11/09/2023 14:49

I saw the naked bike ride a couple of years ago. About 30 old men flashing their bits, and a couple of older women. It’s just an excuse for dirty old men to flash them selves without being arrested. Should be banned!

forcedtogetheatpumps · 11/09/2023 15:05

Disgusting exhibitionist. I'm not surprised the police aren't interested, most of them are dodgy as hell themselves.

If it isn’t illegal then it should be. We know indecent exposure escalates to much more serious crimes. Astonishingly it’s never women who feel the need to do this, always blokes with their cocks out.

Do we really know that?

There's a well trodden path from wandering around in the altogether to more serious crimes?

Is it a gateway to theft, twoccing etc?

Kids should understand that naked adults happen and you might see one occasionally.

HermioneWeasley · 11/09/2023 15:50

yes @Bromptotoo there is a well established pattern of escalation from indecent exposure to more serious sexual assault. Showing unconsenting people your genitals is not a neutral act and I’m tired of the faux naïveté of “just look away” and “you’re all prudes”. If it were a neutral non sexual act then women would do it as much as men.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 11/09/2023 15:51

Malcolm, was this you? Grin

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 11/09/2023 15:52

FOJN · 11/09/2023 09:42

the police say it’s only illegal to be naked if the intention is to offend someone. If there is no intent there is no illegal act even if someone is offended.

And yet when it comes to words you can be charged with a hate crime on the basis of perception without any requirement for intention to be proven.

Absolutely bonkers isn't it? Confused

Would be very unpleasant to see as a victim sexual assault or rape mind you

wandering around in the altogether is what you do at home, in private, or at a push in your garden. Exposing your genitals in public to non consenting strangers is out of order at best.

It would be very unpleasant not as a victim of sexual assault/rape as well!!

Why is it 99.9% of the time men who do this sort of thing? Some of them are so unnecessarily proud of their penis' for some inexplicable reason and want to flash it about. I assume they get a thrill out of it. I asked my DH why as a man he thought some men do this and he was outraged that I thought he'd know 😂

My parents had a neighbour who used to do this, exposing himself out of the window. He soon stopped when another neighbour caught him exposing himself at her children and the police had a word 😂

He had form for exposing himself in a local park as well 😳

Beamur · 11/09/2023 16:06

I'd report to the Police. Whether they take it further is anyone's guess.
Indecent exposure is often a gateway behaviour to more serious stuff though. Police really should take it more seriously, it's not harmless.

If he was older, it might be dementia related?

Menopants · 11/09/2023 16:11

Bingo

He had a cage on his cock, I really don't think it's dementia.
Don't make excuses for dirty old men.

TotalOverhaul · 11/09/2023 16:15

We were in Central London once when DC were small and an elderly man rode past on a bike, naked. Then another and another and some women. There was a naked bike ride right through central London. Seemed to attract the silver cyclists! it was weird but also very funny.

plumtreebroke · 11/09/2023 16:20

If his bits are just hanging around he is probably OK. If his penis was erect it could start to be 'causing offence'. There were a couple naked having a meal in a pub recently (apparently they asked in advance and it was OK'd by the owner) but I really don't fancy standing beside a naked man at the bar ordering drinks! And wouldn't fancy sitting on the chairs afterwards either. Might have been a bit of a publicity stunt.

Spinningcats · 11/09/2023 16:26

@Bromptotoo yes this is a well known escalation path from exposure to more serious sexual assault.

This was discussed in the news A LOT when Sarah Everard was murdered as the policeman involved had been stopped for flashing twice but not arrested.

Many experts were explaining this pattern of escalation. I’m surprised you missed it and are still trying to make excuses for filthy male (it always is) perverts.

TripleDaisySummer · 11/09/2023 16:27

IME it''s not normal - certainly nothing I have ever seen though that doesn't mean that are not small locations where people are trying to normalise it.

I think I'd be shocked and then ignore - though DS as toddler to about 6 would often ask loud questions which would have needed a different approach - probably matter of fact yes the man is not behaving normally.
