Government to *finally* look at banning XL bullies

Thank goodness. I cannot believe it has taken so long* to even look at banning these awful creatures (I say that as a dog lover). Looks like the viral footage of an XL mauling two men who were trying to defend an 11 year old girl is the straw that broke the camels back.

*policy makers have been captured by the RSPCA/Dog’s Trust etc “it’s not the breed, it’s the owner” dogma

bombastix · 12/09/2023 11:44

Address the public order point

Boudicasbeard · 12/09/2023 11:45

@bonbon2023

Pit bulls are responsible for 65% of fatal dog on dog attacks. They kill more other dogs than any other dog breed.

But sure, you love dogs so much that you are willing to let aggressive dogs with a breed track record of fatal attacks go unmuzzled and uncontrolled.

He’s just a little soft puppy until he kills another dog or a child.

And this thinking alone is why a fatal dog attack should come with a huge fine and prison time. So the hard of thinking don’t spoil dog ownership for the rest of us.

Because other people’s dead dogs and children don’t matter, right.

bonbon2023 · 12/09/2023 11:46

@bombastix 😂😂 knew you wouldn't disappoint!

Show me which dog from the video attacked them people. Take a screen shot and post it.

This is a bully meet up. No aggression shown here just dogs mingling. The media have created a frenzy.

Those dogs are not mingling. It's simply a display by owners, mostly male, who choose to put the dogs between their legs and discourage any social interaction. Some can barely control them.

@bombastix 😂😂 knew you wouldn't disappoint!

That is your criteria - my point is that you've got a gathering of dangerous animals in a public place.

placemats · 12/09/2023 11:51

@bonbon2023 Do you think XL Bullies should be off a lead and walking around a housing estate?

bonbon2023 · 12/09/2023 11:52

@Boudicasbeard yep those are individual dogs. It can't be the breed because the hundreds of dogs in that video would all be going at each other wouldnt they? Can't you see that you can't blame a whole breed of dog of the choice of other individuals. What if a pit or xl makes it to 14 and never in its life it attacked or so much and growled at another person or dog should that dog have been euthanised because some of his kind did? Should we kill all men because they can over power us and kill?

Boudicasbeard · 12/09/2023 11:53

There have been 77,000 dog attacks in the U.K. since 2019 and 90% are attributed to pit breed dogs.

These dogs are dangerous to both dogs and humans. They have no place in the modern world because there is no more pit fighting in the U.K. Thus these dogs are weapons or used illegally for criminal purposes.

I just cannot get over the sheer cruelty and stupidity of some people.

placemats · 12/09/2023 11:54

Or should those who paid over £350,000 to live there just lock themselves and their children/grandchildren in when the owner of the Bully decides to let the dog loose? @bonbon2023

bombastix · 12/09/2023 11:55

Also it's an issue in south London. I mean, look at that video. It's literally designed to support and promote a market where people can make cash in hand.

The fact they are such arseholes to gather publicly just tells you the antisocial nature of them. I feel sorry for their neighbours.

bonbon2023 · 12/09/2023 11:55

@placemats no I don't. But I don't think any dog should be either. The general public should not be subjected to anyone's dog.

Boudicasbeard · 12/09/2023 11:56

@bonbon2023

It is simple- guns are banned because they no longer have a place in our society. Smoking is banned in public places because it no longer has a place in our society. Speeding is banned because it causes unnecessary deaths.

Same thought process. There is no need for these dogs. In the same way it is now illegal to keep big cats as domestic pets. Too dangerous and cruel to the animal and everyone else around it.

bonbon2023 · 12/09/2023 11:57

@bombastix dangerous where? There's no danger it's your fear. Even the police didn't know why they had been called.

bombastix · 12/09/2023 11:59

It's a reasonable fear! Danger is about perception of risk. These are a high risk animals to own. It's a gap in the law because if they were classified according to the damage they can inflict, these gatherings would disappear.

bonbon2023 · 12/09/2023 11:59

@bombastix these meets are all over the country not just london. Your just stereotyping.

bombastix · 12/09/2023 12:00

Yeah, the problem is stereotyping.

Don't worry, people can get bitten or scared by these animals everywhere

bombastix · 12/09/2023 12:01

But look you can get your lovely bully from these people. So nice.

bonbon2023 · 12/09/2023 12:03

@bombastix Rottweilers, German shepherds. Dobermans, mastiff, Great Dane and so on can all do the same damage. Would it bother you so much if their was meet ups of those breeds? No no you wouldn't. It's the look you don't like. It doesn't match up to your doodle.

bonbon2023 · 12/09/2023 12:06

@bombastix I think I got my cockapoo from them. Cheap as chips she was 💸

bombastix · 12/09/2023 12:07

Are you crazy? I don't want to have a public meet of mastiffs either but guess what, this isn't a problem. Why is that?

placemats · 12/09/2023 12:07

bonbon2023 · 12/09/2023 11:55

@placemats no I don't. But I don't think any dog should be either. The general public should not be subjected to anyone's dog.

So you think no dogs should be allowed in public?

Boudicasbeard · 12/09/2023 12:11

@bonbon2023

That is not what vets and dog experts say. Pit breeds killed more dogs last year than all those other breeds put together. They are built to kill other dogs and animals larger than themselves. That is the whole point of the breed. And there I no longer a need for that.

By buy one you are buying a dog that is bred to consider other animals (including humans as prey) in the same way that most spaniels have a high prey drive and will therefore become stick and ball fixated. Or collies make difficult family pets because they can become destructive if not offered enough training and interaction. It is all breeding.

So why not stop breeding the dogs specifically designed to kill other dogs. Unless killing other dogs is your main goal.

bonbon2023 · 12/09/2023 12:13

@Boudicasbeard can't blame every bully for what others have done. That's down to their owners and their upbringing. A dog could go their whole lives having done nothing. Should he have been euthanised at 1? Barbaric talk.

bonbon2023 · 12/09/2023 12:14

@placemats not unleashed no.
