Feeling very hot and sweaty and it’s bloody awful! I’m just out of a shower to cleanse myself as I’ve been feeling sweaty and dirty all evening but now I’m all sweaty again!

I swear I won’t moan if we have a very cold winter this year!

I would like to echo the OP's cry though of go away hot weather. It's flipping too hot, very humid, can't sleep. Scotland is fast becoming a warm country which is very weird.

otherwayup · 10/09/2023 13:43

Bloody loving it here!
I sat outside in my bikini top and shorts until after 10pm last night, hate the winter and miserable cold/wet weather - I'm making the most of this heat!!

Redlarge · 10/09/2023 13:44

I cant get anything done. Im desperate to clean up properly but just managing a few bits then dying

JenniferBooth · 10/09/2023 14:07

Agree with Poochypaws Its been fucking humid. Which is hell if you are in a flat on the top floor in the middle of a block. But as it was during the lockdowns no one gives a fuck. its not just the heat. Its the HUMIDITY.

If people are expected to live in flats especially higher up they need to not be over insulated (i live in a one bedroom sweatbox social housing flat) and air conditioning needs to be considered. No air conditioning means lots of cold baths or showers I dont have a shower I have a bath. Im not going to bed sweating and stinking just so the HA can get funding and contractors can make £££££ by turning the place into a sweatbox. The reason people dont want to live in flats in the UK is because they are shitholes. Flats in other countries have built in laundry rooms for washing and drying clothes yet UK flats have nowhere to dry clothes except inside the flats. And if you have a balcony the gaslighting fuckers who work in housing dont want you drying clothes on there either. There seems to be the assumption that if you dont have kids you dont need to wear and wash clothes.

In the UK we dont have homes unsuited to lifestyle. We have homes unsuited to LIFE. It is disingenuous to say that Brits dont want to live in flats when flats in other countries are built to suit life and the UK ones arent. And if British people dare to ask for air conditioning they get told it will make climate change worse.
Any other country asks for it Oh yes of course you can.

I probably will. If it's acceptable to whinge on about the heat there's no reason why autumn and winter haters can't complain about the cold.

Indeed. But don't appear on a thread admonishing others for doing the opposite to you 🤷🏻‍♀️

MatthewsMumFromTikTok · 10/09/2023 14:16

It's duller here today....and thundering with light rain!!!

Maybe this is it!

Hellsbellsandspidersankles · 10/09/2023 14:17

Well, that’s a bit weird…
Not everyone lives in a second floor flat 🤷🏻‍♀️

SatelliteStomper · 10/09/2023 14:20

I love it, but I live by the coast and spent the morning at the beach, swimming in a sea that was like glass, so calm and clear. I'm now sitting under a pergola shaded by a grapevine. It's bliss.

I'm dreading the winter as I have Raynauds and will spend Nov-March in several layers and wearing gloves indoors to protect my hands from the inevitable and painful chilblains.

(And yes, global warming and the changing climate is of huge concern to me but I still enjoy a few warm, sunny days when they arrive!)

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/09/2023 14:23

Raining, thunder, chilly and dull, back to normal here 🤣

SatelliteStomper · 10/09/2023 14:23

Agree with @JenniferBooth about many flats though, especially high-rises. I know from years of experience that hey can be unbearable in hot weather. I know how incredibly lucky I am to have lots of varied outside space to enjoy now.

JenniferBooth · 10/09/2023 14:24

Part of my post is copied from another thread about crap builds. If you cant dry clothes in your home then of course its unsuited to life. In other countries flats have laundry rooms. "not everyone lives in a second floor flat" proves the point in my third sentence at 14.07 beautifully. My niece having been to Italy talked about air con everywhere AND the sense of community and everyone caring about everyone elses comfort. Which we dont have here Her words.

That shoulder shrug is a good example of why we have crap housing crap infrastructure etc. "it dont affect me Guv" Where is the incentive for things to be improved when that is the attitude.

That is the absolute truth.

And it's not just blocks of flats... street properties can be crazy hot with small windows that sometimes don't even open all the way... I'm looking at you, sash windows. Only ever half-open by design.

The vast majority of street properties have nowhere to dry the laundry, either.

Hang in there. Almost over.

Chicknpan · 10/09/2023 14:30

It's just so humid. Any activity and I'm sweating my proverbials off! Even the washing isn't really drying outside.

I don't want winter, it went on forever. I just want pleasant and comfortable, just for a few days! Not freezing, not pissibg it down, not blowing an absolute gale, not baking. Just comfortable and calm. Is that so much to ask just for a few days?!

JenniferBooth · 10/09/2023 14:38

Oh God yes, Not only has our HA over insulated the place we had new windows fitted back in 2004 The slidey up windows where you could get a decent breeze through the flat were replaced with ones which only open a couple of inches because of the window restrictors Health and safety innit. I have two windows both in the bedroom and living room. They forgot to put a restrictor on one of the living room windows and phoned me saying they wanted to come and do it. I said no because its the only fucking window i can open properly. Before this the flats here never had mould Now however.....

My fridge freezer struggles in the small galley shaped kitchen in the summer in this sweatbox ITS FINE IN THE WINTER

Sucette · 10/09/2023 14:41

I noticed on the bbc weather website that the 'feels like" temperature is often 5 degrees higher than the actual temperature because of the humidity. The met Office said the UK has higher humidity than the European continent.

It's been a menopausal nightmare this week. Think we're onto cooler days after tomorrow though!

I started a thread about a personal air conditioner this morning. It is great at night or during the day if you are sat still (it doesn't air condition the whole room so it is no good if you are moving during the day).

Romeiswheretheheartis · 10/09/2023 14:57

Still roasting here for me, but it's just started to rain! Hopefully the temperature will start to cool down a bit now.

familyissues12345 · 10/09/2023 15:03

I don't like it. I like sunny days, love being able to hang the washing out, eating dinner in the garden etc, I just can't stand the humidity.

I was at an outdoor event last night, my friends were there with light blankets as it cooled as the evening went on. I was there in a summer dress just enjoying the "coolness" Grin

WooWooWinnie · 10/09/2023 15:06

It’s the house! I can cope with the 28-30c outside, even when it’s humid. It’s the 27c inside the house that’s killing me off!

808KateO · 10/09/2023 15:13

@IMustDoMoreExercise I will definitely have a look into that thanks!

I used it for the first time last night and it works like an actual air con unit, but you have to be very close to it. I actually felt cold and had to turn it down to 45% and then I switched it off before I went to sleep.

I was looking to buy a big air con unit, but couldn't work out how I would fit the pipe through my window and also my bedroom is tiny so there is no floor space. So pleased that I didn't bother now.

Hope my HA doesnt decide they want to do a RAAC inspection. I am not moving ANYTHING in this kind of weather. I wont be lifting a finger Actions have consequences

crumblylancs · 10/09/2023 17:18

I just went outside and could actually breathe cool air, delightful!
