Share my joy at having dinner cooked for me and DP tonight. I'm sharing pics and everything hence I've changed my username as it's totally identifiable!

Awww this is just so perfect - I am off to show my moody 12 year old and drop some hints 😂😂

User8743 · 09/09/2023 20:32

How lovely!!!!!!!

Qilin · 09/09/2023 20:33

Ah, so lovely.
When dd was around that age she would sometimes make us a special meal like this. It was fab. Not as likely to happen nowadays 😆

Infact I've just remembered, dd and her friends used to have a' formal dinner' night once or twice a year. There was a group of 4 or 5 of them and they would cook a 3 course meal, get all dressed up and then serve it for one another. It went on until sixth form - covid prevented the final one happening. For the last couple of years before then they invited they invited a some of the boys who joined their group and got them involved in the cooking - and made them dress up too if they wanted to be invited. It was all very lovely!

That's just wonderful in every way. I would be so proud of her!!

Bored1000 · 09/09/2023 21:01

It’s great to have that skill Ann’s desire to cook healthy food at her age, you have taught her well…..she will be well able to look after herself when she moves out .
Enjoy the meal!

Lwrenagain · 09/09/2023 21:08

What a treat! She can come cook for my house any Time she wants 😂
The 90s playlist was a fantastic touch!

You must be very proud of her ❤

NoMor · 09/09/2023 21:10

I thought the starter came with a selection of crockery which I thought was a strange thing to put on the menu...!

But that's lovely! I remember doing this sort of thing for my mum but she never took the hint and returned the favour 😉

Soubriquet · 09/09/2023 21:15

I couldn’t even cook that!! Well done to your dd. I think this is something my dd would love to do when she is a bit older

Wishitsnows · 09/09/2023 21:17

That all looked lovely 😊 someone said up thread that for DofE you get this once a week for 6 months! I am so hoping this is true as my DD is doing D if E. After seeing this I’m very excited 😆

Wishitsnows · 09/09/2023 21:17

That cooking and presentation is better than I could do now let alone at 13

Bobje · 09/09/2023 21:20

@gratefulcustomer Aaah how lovely! Great menu too, well done your DD 🌟

@lshaslam Hahaha I’ve just given my non sleeping 2 yr old the side eye 😆

muddlingthrou · 09/09/2023 21:28

This is adorable and has made me very excited for when my own daughter is the same age. A few years to go yet!

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 09/09/2023 21:33

Wow! She has done an amazing job there. It looks fantastic, bet it was delicious 😋

Brava · 09/09/2023 21:38

Put your phone down and enjoy! Nothing worse than your partner sitting on their phone the whole time taking pictures and posting on a random forum. Take the opportunity to chat and relax together.

I promise I didn't spend the whole evening on social media. DD was as invested as I was in hearing all the lovely MN responses. It didn't take more than a few minutes and the replies put a huge grin on DD's face so I ave no regrets. Thanks for your concern though because you're right, on the whole!

They're completely right.

You could've started this thread tomorrow telling us how much you enjoyed it!

It all looks wonderful OP and you should be very proud indeed of your DD.

But honestly, just put the phone away and relax and enjoy.

My favourite thing is the highlighting the key feature of every course. Classy. Love the whole thing. Enjoy OP

Duckdown · 09/09/2023 22:49

Looks amazing! Was it a special occasion @gratefulcustomer ?

Whiskeypowers · 09/09/2023 22:56

Not a special occasion. She loves watching food videos ( though is quite a picky eater herself) and really enjoys cooking. She's been asking to cook us a special meal for weeks or possibly months but we have had a busy summer and I wanted to have enough time to talk her through the menu, help her with the recipes and timings etc. Today was just the day we picked. Really proud of her. She did almost all of it herself though I helped her with her prep and talked it through with her. She even sliced the potatoes herself for the dauphinois and she did pretty well!

This is lovely! It all looks fantastic - well done to your daughter and good job on raising what sounds like a helpful teen with culinary passion and skills. So many get to 18 and can do very little!

BraveGoldie · 10/09/2023 10:31

What a lovely thread and delicious looking meal!

I might just show it to my DD13 for inspiration!

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 10/09/2023 11:25

I hope she is going to apply for Junior Masterchef!

PhotoDad · 10/09/2023 11:30

What an amazing and happy thread! DS(16) cooked a special meal to send off his sister who has just gone back to uni but I'll tell him raise his game next time!
