Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just brewing a pot of tea, sitting in my kitchen spot with the window flung wide open. No-one's up yet apart from me so it's lovely & quiet. I expect the girls will be up soon-ish though - both had a fairly early night (for a Friday) and went to bed when I got in from an evening out with friends.

Todays plan is to have a steady moochy kind of day. There's uniform washing to do, some pots to wash, and downstairs could do with a clean and then sweeping/mopping. I'll get the girls to chip in when we're all eventually awake.

I plan to spend the rest of the day painting my next set of display props, and maybe some crochet. I'm in the middle of winging another creation for dd2 that's about 2/3 finished so would like to get it done over the weekend. I might upload a few more things onto Vinted, too then resist buying anything on there.

Dd1 will have some college work to be done so I'll remind her to get on with that at some point, and I'm reasonably sure dd2 will have at least maths and English too, but she tends to sit with me while she does hers.

No idea what's for tea just yet - something easy I think. I've been running down the freezer & think we're about ready for a shop this coming week.

What about all of you? 🙂

Morning!

Swimming lessons here for the DC. Then DS is having a friend over to play. No one seems to have any homework yet. So I shall nag the DC to tidy their rooms instead 😆

I'll be working on a photo album for my DM if I get time. DH will probably do some gardening despite the heat.

Salad for tea because it is TOO DAMN HOT to cook. I am so so over the heat!!!

Decafflatteplease · 09/09/2023 09:25

Morning @lucysmam! We are planning quite a similar day to you, a moochy kind of day.

I'm looking forward to the weather breaking tomorrow, none of us cope well in the heat it's so tiring!

First load of uniform gone on, will get on the line in a bit. Need to have a freezer/pantry rummage for dinner, we too are trying to run things down and use up what we have.

We have some small DIY projects to do this afternoon we need to paint a fence before the weather turns and also build some flatpack furniture for one of teens rooms so nothing major but I love a little weekend project 😁

I also need to change DC beds etc.

So just a pottering and jobs day really 🙂

Good morning!

I’ve been up since 6.30am today as I was too hot in bed. Dh has gone to work, dd19 and dd9 are both awake and mooching about the house. Dd16 is still asleep. I’ve already cleaned the kitchen and hung a load of washing out and put a second load in.

I’m waiting for my Tesco delivery which is due any minute then I’ll get showered and dressed and head into town with dd9 to get my nails done and dd wants to visit the old style sweet shop.

Then this afternoon once dh gets home from
work we’re all heading to my sisters for a bbq and drinks for my BIL’s 50th birthday. It’s boiling here so they’ve got the perfect day for it, I’ll just have to make sure I don’t drink too much wine whilst sitting in the sun! 😆

@AllotmentTime room tidying nagging features quite heavily here sometimes 🙈 That said, dd1 gutted hers on Weds afternoon & it's still fairly tidy (at least, it was last night!). She needs some help organising her college things but keeps avoiding actually having me in there to help her 🤷‍♀️ they can't live on the floor for 2 years!

Doors open, school shirts almost washed, I have coffee and a stack of newspapers to read.

Going to just enjoy this (last?) hazy hot weekend.

Salmon and light vegetables later.

EducatingArti · 09/09/2023 09:31

Morning all. Another moochy day here too! I am still in bed with a cup of tea. I have an urgent wash to put on too in order to prevent an underwear crisis.

I've got a lot of housework to do. I've been turning an old IKEA Billy bookcase into a unit for my friends little girls to hang all their dressing up clothes. There is a lot of "aftermath" to clear up. I am very tired too so taking things very slowly.

SweetPeaPods · 09/09/2023 09:31

Morning! I've just got dd baby to nap.
Ds1 has football at 11 so will soon get ready for that, ds2 has already left for his football match with DH.
Watching the football then the rugby later on tv so having a picky tea, not sure what we're doing in between yet. DH wanted to go out but we're all a bit hot and bothered tbh.

TobiasForgesContactLense · 09/09/2023 09:32

Good morning all. This week has been rubbish as DS has been unwell so we haven't been back into the school routine yet. His temperature is now back to normal so we will be able to get on with the weekend as planned.

It will be swimming lesson this morning then after lunch we will go into town as I have a blood donation appointment.

Dinner will be hot dogs and salad.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 09/09/2023 09:35

Good morning Lucysmam and others. I've had two coffees and toast, done the Aldi shop for the week and there are two washings out and another in the machine. It has turned very cloudy and sultry which doesn't augur well. Shortly I'm off out to buy birthday cards and gifts. Then back to polish, hoover and clean the bathroom. Salmon salad for dinner later.

Simonjt · 09/09/2023 09:35

I’m trying to sort out our house a bit today, it is absolute chaos with stuff just everywhere. I managed to move most of it into the basement yesterday, so it isn’t as cluttered in the front room, but its still a huge mess.

The aim today is to get at least the living room and kitchen properly unpacked, cleaned and tidied away. I imagine the small people will spend today trying to get in the way as much as possible and claim to be ‘helping’.

We’ve got one of our sons school friends coming over later so I’m going to take them to Skansen and then we’ll go for a treat tea somewhere, probably McDonalds.

Have a lovely Saturday, I hope it isn’t too hot where you are.

Thislittlekitten · 09/09/2023 09:36

Good morning all.

Planning a lazy day here too. Already got a wash out. Enjoying a cup of tea with the cat on me.

DS is away for the weekend. DD has a friend over soon so I will potter about and tidy and read my book. Long day at work tomorrow so will enjoy today.

DH organising tea tonight so I don’t even need to worry about that!

User562377 · 09/09/2023 09:36

I've got 4 11 yr old boys here who had a (no) sleepover last night. I could hear them talking until 1am, dh said he got up to the toilet about 3am and they were still chatting. They were awake at 8am and now lying around looking like zombies. They're going home at 12.
Then were going sofa shopping, which sounds hellish in this heat but I want to be sure we have new sofas for Christmas so we can't keep putting it off.

KnottyKnitting · 09/09/2023 09:38

On a flotilla in Greece. Currently anchored in a small bay in the Ionian islands!

Packed DD off to school, her first Saturday, done horse + walked dog. Having a peaceful coffee before tackling some housework. Am going to make DD a fry up for when she gets home at 12.30 then we are going to have snuggles + films all afternoon. Her first week at secondary has been draining so she needs some quality chill time.

Coastalcreeksider · 09/09/2023 09:40

Up early, left home at 8am to get to Waitrose as that's where I can get the cat food that the he eats occasionally. I have so many brands for him, there is absolutely no way I can tell from one day to the next what he is likely to eat.

Back home by 8.45am and been sitting here reading papers online with cup of coffee and malt loaf. Will get changed soon, put on some washing then do nothing for the rest of the day but read my book outside on the shady patio as it's going to be hot, hot, HOT!

DynamicK · 09/09/2023 09:42

I've yet to get going! Late night last night.
Lots of cleaning and laundry to do.
I'm going to clean the decking area. The foxes have discovered our lovely area and have decided to claim it as their territory and have literally crapped everywhere and left mud all over the seat cushions.

If anyone has any suggestions, please pass them on.

Once the place is clean and tidy, the idea is to read in the garden for a bit. Put the paddling pool out and relax.

Wazzzzzuuuuuuup · 09/09/2023 09:44

I've been up early as on call this weekend. Hoping the hospital remains settled. My middle dc is at work, youngest and dh are still in bed.

I've had a cup of tea and sorted through my work emails and tasks and taken a couple of calls from the team on site. I've sorted out cats and ddog has had a quick walk round the block.

This morning I'm going to have coffee and toast, set some washing going and deal with the laundry mountain. I like to stay close to home on an on call day as you can bet your life I'll get called the second I go to the supermarket or out for lunch. So housework, a couple of local chores then bbq for dinner.

I'm going to try and finish my books (I have two on the go due back to the library) and looking forward to a couple of hours of reading in the garden. It's very warm here but still waiting for the sun to come out

Silkiebunny · 09/09/2023 09:47

Morning LucysMam and all of you. Lovely pics knotty looks like a wonderful way to spend a day.

DH is off to look at a piano so will be off this morning.

I have been watching Netflix programme about living to 100, not sure I want to but interesting. Cleaned out the cutlery tray.

About to have 2 crumpets with lots of butter and a cup of tea.

Very hot here today. DD is doing her river tours job all day which keeps her fit and very well paid. DS I guess will be just gaming. We are the middle of having a kitchen done. May set up 2 new ipads more and also hoover upstairs as our carpet is now tabby, looking at you Floof.

Peridot1 · 09/09/2023 09:49

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. Love these threads.

How are you feeling @lucysmam?

@twistyizzy - I hated when DS had Saturday school! Was so happy when he left school. Hated it even more if he had a match in the afternoon.

Quiet weekend here. DS moved to Dublin last weekend for a year to do a Masters. I’m from Dublin originally but live in UK now so it feels very strange that he is there and I am here. So it’s just DH and I and the dog here now.

I am mid way through washing all dog beds and dog bed covers and floor mats as the house seemed a bit whiffy when I got back on Wednesday. We only have one dog now but she has multiple beds and cushions all over the place. DH is tasked with washing her today too.

Other than that it’s a quiet one. I’m loving the weather so planning on an afternoon reading my book in the garden and then it’s a spatchcock chicken on the bbq with new potatoes and salad and home grown corn for dinner.

twistyizzy · 09/09/2023 09:53

@Peridot1 yeh they are also trying to foist extra hockey trainnng on them from 12.30-2pm on a Saturday but I've said no because I think it's too much. FGS they already have them 5 and a half days a week and they do double games every day, I just don't see the need for extra hockey training. Anyway DD has an outside hobby which happens on a Saturday so I've excused her, I don't think the Sports Director is very happy but tough!

Missedmytoe · 09/09/2023 09:58

I'm hoping for an easy day. DC had a hectic first few days back at school and is battling insomnia.
I've not long woken up - DH has gone to work but has left me a nice cup of tea, so I'm drinking that.

Later, I need to do the last of the washing backlog, change the bedding and bathroom towels and make a cake.
Need to water the garden but the hose has broken so that'll have to wait until later when it's cool enough to haul watering cans around.

Don't know what's for dinner but probably something quick from the freezer as I need to empty and clean it (not today).

Maybe a walk in the woods early evening.

lucysmam · 09/09/2023 10:01

@Simonjt pleased to see you made it to your new home safely 😊 How did the cat and dog cope with their journey?

@Silkiebunny Floof is an exceptional beauty though (I remember your pic on another thread).

@Peridot1 surprisingly, I'm still feeling really good! Had chemo 17/18 yesterday & don't seem to have any side effects going on. I figured I'd best not push too much though, since we're often out and about. I over-did it the other weekend and completely wrote off the Sunday sleeping 🤷‍♀️

@KnottyKnitting that looks like a restful way to spend your day. I think I'd be sat there for hours just staring into the view.

Went for a run this morning before it gets unbearably hot. Then tidied up the kitchen while DS was doing some maths homework ( he is a teen but at early riser, so already been up for a couple of hours. He is then cycling to a running competition with DH. DD and I are cycling to the hospital to see my dad and then onto the Trafford centre to buy some school stuff, hate Trafford centre even worse having to go there on a nice day but needs must.
Hopefully a relaxing evening, thinking of going to the pub with the kids, no idea what I'm doing for dinner yet

ToughFuss · 09/09/2023 10:03

Good morning! I love those peaceful mornings.
It’s been a pretty steady one so far. My husband went to work at 6:30 which meant I had to get up to let the dogs out, so thought I may as well crack on and sort the horses too.
All done by 7:30 when my DS (2yo) woke up, so I did pancakes for breakfast, we ate in the garden and have been outside since. Just in an out of the sandpit, up and down his climbing frame, shooting around on his wee quad bike… it’s lovely. Just starting to really heat up now.
Rest of the day, I’m undecided. I’ll crack on with some paperwork while he’s napping, then maybe beach later.. we only live a field or two away, so we’ll go on the quad… mine this time, not his tiny one 🤣 either that or I’ll take the boy down to the river and let him paddle and throw stones and whathaveyou.
DH will be working til at least midnight, so I’ve got a nice bottle of wine in the fridge, some of my favourite ice cream (hagen daaz salted caramel!) in the freezer and I’m going to watch Red, White and Royal Blue this evening! I’ve heard good things, love a cheesy romcom.

Peridot1 · 09/09/2023 10:07

That sounds like a lovely day @ToughFuss. Will have a look at that film. DH is planning on watching lots of rugby over the next few weeks so I can catch up on stuff I like. And I think I might need to go and buy some ice cream to go with it!
